Depo-Provera is a long-acting progestin (hormone) form of birth control. If you stop getting Depo-Provera injections, your period usually returns within 3 to 10 months but sometimes it may take 12-18 mths.

According to something I read about it once, if a woman becomes pregnant while using Depo Provera, and continues her pregnancy, there may be an increased risk of premature birth. But there's so much conflicting stuff, you would be better to talk to a doctor about it. They could give you better answers. You should have been tested for pregnancy prior to getting the shot though.
If you were my patient, I would advise you that the depo provera injection is a very good and convenient form of birth control. Many patients use if for years and love it. Often there is some irregular bleeding initially when the shot is first begun, but after that most people don't have much more than infrequent spotting. If you get your shots on time the method is approximately 99% effective. I DO advise my patients to take a calcium supplement while on Depo.

I am writing because I was on birth control for about 6 years from pills to the path to the last 2 years of Depo-Provera. I have been off birth control completely for about a year and a half and was wondering when all of the hormones, etc. will clear out of my system. I am getting married soon and I was wondering when my fertility level will return to normal I am 21 years.

If you were my patient, i would advise you that the depo provera injection can be an excellent method of birth control. It is 99% effective and requires only that the patient have 4 injections per year. It is important to take a calcium supplement while using depo provera. Weight gain is probably the worst side effect.

I've never been on birth control before and now I'm seriously thinking about it and I'm terrified and lost :'( I don't want to put anything harmful in my body that can impact my ability to have children in the future or alter my moods for the worse. I know it's different for everybody by this is something I'm truly clueless about. As an advance society we have very poor birth control and I feel like no one cares.
I have been receiving the birth control Depo-Provera since the end of January, 2016. However, I was due for an appointment September 24th, 2016. However there is a supposed two week window in which Depo-Provera is supposed to be effective and that window ended October 8th, so just a few weeks ago. However, I got back on birth control 4 days after this two week window ended on October 12th.
And as for trouble getting pregnant afterward different types of birth control work differently for different people I was pregnant within 2 months of stopping my shots and easily got pregnant with my second son also after resuming and stopping my depo shots again. I feel that it is a great birth control and have recommended it to people its very effective and most people I know have only had minor side affects such as spotting for a little while.
