Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am not sure of what type of antibiotic might affect other contraceptives like the pill, but I am pretty sure that she will be fine on the shot. I myself had the depo-provera shot about 10 years ago. I only had one shot and I didn't have a period until a whole year later. It actually took me over another year after my period returned before, I finally became pregnant. The depo-provera shot is extremely effective.
Avatar f tn Pregnancy occurring during the use of the shot is usually an undetected pregnancy before the shot is given. One of the side effects of Depo-Provera is irregular menstrual bleeding. 50% of women will stop getting their period after 1 year of the shot. The period usually returns after stopping the shots, however, it can take 3 months to a year for the effects of Depo-Provera to wear off and fertility to return.
Avatar f tn call your doc to be sure. Thats the safe way to go. However the depo is a proges only birth control and u get spotting & or break through bleeding. Google the side effects of the depo and see if it is what u are dealing with. But if u are really worried call the gyno and ask.
Avatar f tn It takes awhile to get back to normal, but be prepared and use protection as your fertility could return quickly. Most women don't get a period for another 6-9 months after stopping depo. You can be fertile any time before that though it isn't likely. My obgyn told me to stop 18 months before I wanted to get pregnant because it can take a long time. Other side effects vary, I had headaches and mild cramping, when my periods began they were very light and a lot of brownish color blood.
Avatar f tn Can the depo-provera shot be given in between periods and still be affective? What would the effects of this be?
Avatar f tn Thanks for the reply! I was kinda nervous to start the depo shot, with all the side effects that I have heard that it has. I am glad to know that you haven't had many side effects at all! Hopefully I have the same. I'll let you know how it goes! Good luck with your upcoming surgery, I hope everything goes great! Let me know how it goes!
Avatar f tn i decided to not go on any other birth control for awhile. What are the side effects of coming off the Depo Provera and is it ok to not be on any birthcontrol at all for awhile??
Avatar n tn The Depo-Provera shot has all of your symptoms as fairly common side effects. As a health professional and former Depo patient, I can tell you these are common complaints with this form of birth control. I personally could not take the shot for more than 6 months, as I found I couldn't deal with the side effects. Some patients find the symptoms decrease over time, but you may want to speak to your doctor about an alternate form of birth control.
Avatar f tn Seeing how you said the 3 month injection you mean like Depo Provera. I was on Depo for 3 years and it seems to sound as though you're dealing with the issues of the side effects of the birth control. It happens and really sometimes you get them sooner or in your case later.
Avatar n tn Hello I just got my cycle back after being on the depo provera shot and it been down since 12-18-2010 I wondering when will be the best time to try for a baby?
Avatar f tn s no way to tell for sure, but more and more proof is coming out that autism is NOT linked to vaccines, and because depo provera is an active hormone shot and not a vaccine, I highly doubt that it is the cause. Are your other children girls by any chance? Very often a family that has an autistic child only has 1 (almost always a boy), and the rest of the children are "normal". They are thinking more and more that it's a genetic mutation.
Avatar f tn It is important to take a calcium supplement while using depo provera. Weight gain is probably the worst side effect. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn Breakthrough bleeding and really long periods are common side effects on depo provera. It's actually one of the reasons most women stop using it. Unfortunately, because it's an injectible birth control method, there isn't much you or your doctor can do if you are having unpleasant side effects. You just have to wait for the 3 months to be over and your body to either adjust to it, or to see if it just won't work for you.
Avatar n tn I took one depo shot back in september. I gained 10 lbs almost immediately. My appetite just tripled. I will NOT be getting another shot and will look for another form of birth control. When I was looking into getting it I heard from a lot of women that they really disliked it. I also had a couple of women who said they actually got pregnant on Depo. The only reason I got the shot was to try and help boost my milk supply after giving birth. I won't do it again.
Avatar m tn I have read what feels like hundreds of stories about the Depo shot and how people have bleed all year with it, or have some of the side effects that the FDA said are pretty uncommon? I am 33 yrs old not children and don't plan on having any. I wanted to use the Depo as a form of birth control so that my boyfriend and I don't have to worry about the possibility of getting pregnant. Is the depo shot as bad as people are saying it is? NEED HELP!!!
Avatar f tn I think you should talk with you doctor to see whats going on and also that you should of check out the side effects before getting on the Depo Provera shot because Deop can cause Irregular, heavy, or no bleeding are common side effects of Depo Provera. After a year of use, many women stop having periods. Lack of a period becomes increasingly common with longer use but since your period hasn't stop you should see your doctor.
Avatar f tn One of the main side effects of Depo is that it does decrease your libido. This is due to the amount of hormones that are in the shot that keep it lasting for three months. Unfortunately, these side effects can last years even after you're done with Depo. The same thing happened to me when I switched from Depo to the pill after three years. I slowly got my libido back after another three years. Have you chatted with your doctor about the situation?
Avatar m tn I just started depo only been a month and i am having problems i have wat feels like labor pains in my stomach diarrhea nausea terrible freakin headaches my back hurts in the lower left side and can't eat nothing that i don't feel like i ate a hippo. Is this all normal my doctor just gave me pills for an upset stomach n pain and said the urinne test came back that i wasnt pregnant because they also did not give me a pregnancy test before they put me on depo..
Avatar f tn Hi I was wondering if anyone experienced negative side effects from the depo shot? Normal birth contrl pills make me extremely nauseous due to the estrogen, and I can't tolerate it. From my understanding depo does not contain estrogen?
Avatar n tn What is the best way to do this? Everyone talks about the Depo Provera, but what is the side effects and would this by any chance bring problems in the near future when we want to concieve a baby?
1394877 tn?1280265360 Welcome to the side effects of Depo Provera! :) It takes A LOT of time to get used to the drug and yes, all that you're experiencing with the mood swings, lower abdominal pains, etc. are just normal side effects. Damaging to someone is a possibility. Did the doctor explain to you the side effects and what happens to your bones the longer you're on the stuff? I was on it for 3 years and had... somewhat problems at the end.
Avatar n tn Hello, Irregular bleeding like you describe is a common side effect of Depo Provera. Your girlfriend should have been counseled about this possibility when initiated on the medication. If she has any questions/concerns she should see the provider who is prescribing the medication. Best regards, Dr.
Avatar f tn I am 21 years old and have been on the shot (DEPO) since I was 18. I recently started having hot flashes and I wake up at night sweat profusely. Once I sit outside for a couple minutes I am fine. Also I have noticed since I have been on the shot I am very anxious. I would like someones opinion if their is a way to counteract these side effects or if I should just switch? I just really like the depo because so is very reliable for my-self. Please I would love some opinions.
Avatar f tn I am on my 3rd depo injection as of feb and i will not be going for the 4th one.... this shot is horrible!!!
