Depo provera and early menopause

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and early menopause

depo-provera

Avatar n tn One thing I noticed during my internet search was a number of results discussing Depo Provera and how it has caused the onset of early menopause in women even in their 20’s. Has anyone else heard about this, and if so, are there other resources I can review to get more information on this correlation? Thanks, I just have to know what is causing this!
Avatar f tn Quick question... which Depo are you on? There are two kinds, that I'm aware of: Depo Provera or Depo Lupron. I had tried the Provera when I was about 16 for about a year. I had to stop because I could not handle the side effects any longer. I did spot for about 3 months. It usually takes a few months for your system to get used to it. The Lupron stops your period completely and basically puts your body into menopause, which is the one I am currently on.
Avatar f tn I would like to know if someone know about some type of medicine or supplements that can stop a period and force menopause. This seems to be my only option, since I have never been able to get help for gynocological problems. Maybe if I can get rid of the period, I can get rid of the misery. I'm pretty sure that my lack of health insurance has a lot to do with it, especially because of my age. Someone told me that they heard that it may be something out there to help me.
Avatar f tn s no way to tell for sure, but more and more proof is coming out that autism is NOT linked to vaccines, and because depo provera is an active hormone shot and not a vaccine, I highly doubt that it is the cause. Are your other children girls by any chance? Very often a family that has an autistic child only has 1 (almost always a boy), and the rest of the children are "normal". They are thinking more and more that it's a genetic mutation.
Avatar n tn I am 47 b=n on depo for 20 years Do not want a baby but depo is messing with my calcium.
Avatar n tn has taken me off the Depo Shots and I was put on Birth Control Pills. The blood was very dark red and blood clots. I was given an altrsound was told nothing was wrong. Is this normal with the Depo Provera?
494669 tn?1275362475 I have been off Depo-Provera for 11 months now and still haven't conceived. Every month i have the same symptoms you are describing and every month i have the same negative result. I was also told afetr i came off the injection it could take me anything from a year to 2 years to conceive.
Avatar f tn I am 38 yrs old and was just diagnosed as having stage of early menopause I am seeing the fertilitist had blood and sonograms, my insurance plan will not cover donnor eggs which I understand but they wont cover the ivf surgery because they dont consider my diagnosis infertility I think this is absurd how can they say that ? has anyone been threw this I am so sad and upset.
384896 tn?1335294331 not sure about the breast feeding part but a lot of women on this site might agree with me to stay clear of depo-provera. I was on this bc for 2 and a half years and have been ttc for the same length of time with no joy. I was diagnosed with depression at 16 years old when i was on this, i asked the doc if that was the problem and was told no, when the depo eventually cleared from my system so did the depression my family say i was a new person.
Avatar f tn i decided to not go on any other birth control for awhile. What are the side effects of coming off the Depo Provera and is it ok to not be on any birthcontrol at all for awhile??
Avatar n tn m not having any more children and I have tried everything to stop the pain and bleeding I was told depo provera is only a quick fix for dysfunctional uterine bleeding. I have heavy cycles as well and I pass a lot of large clots. I go through a lot of pads the first 2-3 days. I went through all the tests as well and they came back fine. My gyn found out through my laparoscopy. Let me know how things are going for you. I know going through too many cycles can lead to more serious situations.
Avatar n tn I'm 22 yrs old and was taking Provera to regulate my cycle. I was on Depo on and off for 6 years and have been off it for 20 months straight now. I used an AH ovulation kit and was not ovulating so the doc recommended Provera and Chlomid. I've been off Provera for 3 weeks waiting to start Chlomid, but I still haven't gotten my period. I just took an HPT at it was negative. Could I be pregnant even with that HPT negative? My nurse seemed concerned that it wasn't a blood test...
Avatar n tn To be sure go to a planned parenthood place or to her gynecologist and get a ultrasound done. You can get pregnant on the Depo Provera shot.
Avatar n tn Dear jennphilg- It is very unlikely that you have early menopause. Most of the time, the lack of periods, and the failure to have bleeding from provera, indicate that your estrogen levels are low. This can be due to many factors, including weight loss, low body mass index with less body fat than is required, stress. Sometimes, lack of periods can also be due to the opposite - being overweight, having some excess male hormone.
Avatar f tn m a 19 year old female who was on the Depo Provera shot from summer of 2013 until last November. The depo shot completely took away my periods and even when I quit it in November I didn't get a period until July 2nd of this year. This period was a pretty normal one. Lighter flow than I used to have and it lasted until the 6th of July. Since then I have not had a period. I have taken multiple pregnancy tests, and I always get a negative result. I always have protected sex.
Avatar f tn I have a history of anxiety and depression. Is depo-provera a good choice or a bad choice for birth control? Thank you!
Avatar n tn I had not had my period in 5 months and my gyno put me on provera. I really want to conceive but I dont know how long it usually takes. Am i able to get pregnant right after taking provera? ( I have had my period for 4 days now) thanks!!
Avatar f tn Im 28 and have never been pregnant slightly overweight but not too concerred and getting it back down periods were always regular and pain free went on for birth control, my husband has 1 child already and decided to start are own family.
432411 tn?1206472109 I took depo provera for about 6 years, starting in 2000. Just over three months after I stopped taking the shots I developed a nodule in my neck which was eventually diagnosed as thyroid cancer. I have absolutely no history of thyroid problems of any kind in family and I had had no problems before the depo.
Avatar n tn Hi, I am not sure of what type of antibiotic might affect other contraceptives like the pill, but I am pretty sure that she will be fine on the shot. I myself had the depo-provera shot about 10 years ago. I only had one shot and I didn't have a period until a whole year later. It actually took me over another year after my period returned before, I finally became pregnant. The depo-provera shot is extremely effective.
Avatar f tn However there is a supposed two week window in which Depo-Provera is supposed to be effective and that window ended October 8th, so just a few weeks ago. However, I got back on birth control 4 days after this two week window ended on October 12th. The doctor advised me to use a condom in the first week and I go ahead like an airhead and have sex that SAME day, unprotected. While my fiance used the 'pull-out' ' method knowing basic biology, it is still possible to get pregnant.
1219499 tn?1410749730 I'm really glad you posted this. My cousin had 2 miscarriages and found out that she needed to have her hormones adjusted. I think she might have had a progesterone shot. She said her problem was probably caused by years on the Depo shot. I don't know though. I've recently had 2 miscarriages and was planning on getting my hormones checked before I TTC again, as I was on Depo-Provera for years don't know whether or not that affected me.
Avatar f tn No, because Depo Provera only suppresses ovulation. False negatives are produced when a woman tests for pregnancy before the embryo has had the proper amount of time to implant into the uterus and begin producing hcg. With this pregnancy I tested on a monday and got a negative, then I tested on a wednesday and got all positives. The negative test was only because I tested too early.
Avatar f tn m outside the normal range of time after stopping Depo Provera to have gotten my periods back. Could Depo be causing these problems or does it sound like something else could be a problem?
Avatar f tn In order to get pregnant though, you need to not only be ovulating but you also need to be producing fertile cervical mucous and a thick uterine lining after you ovulate. The reason Depo-Provera is so long lasting is because of the way it works. The levels of DMPA (the synthetic hormone in Depo-Provera) gradually increase over a three week period, at which time they reach their peak levels. After three weeks the DMPA levels begin to decrease exponentially.
