Common Questions and Answers about Dandruff in hair and eyebrows

dandruff

Avatar n tn It is an autoimmune disease characterized by unpredictable, nonscarring hair loss of the eyelashes and eyebrows. In such cases, to promote growth of eyebrows, just eat a healthy protein rich diet and take some multivitamin supplements for some days. The most important nutrients are biotin, silica, magnesium, sulfur, zinc, and vitamin B6. There are many eyebrow growth products in the market, but their efficacy has not been scientifically proven.
Avatar m tn Hi I am an 18 year old male with about shoulder length hair and about two months ago I started rapidly losing a lot of hair on my scalp except for the lower back portion of the head. I could run my hands through my hair and I could get a few hairs each time and in the shower when shampooing my hair I counted up to 30 - 40 hairs one time. After a few weeks of seeing my hair fallout, my head/hair overall began feeling much lighter due to the shedding.
Avatar m tn If it's the outer third of the eyebrow, you should get your thyroid checked. If you have flaking and scaling, like you have dandruff in your eyebrows, then it's probably something fungal. If it's not super red and inflamed, you could try applying some hydrocortisone cream to it. If it helps, it probably is some sort of organism causing irritation and the hair loss, and something like ketoconazole cream or even lotramin would be the thing to do.
Avatar m tn Then my eyebrows started thinning the same way my hair did. Now i can visibly see hair falling out all over my scalp but the thing that worries me the most is the hair falling from my eyebrows. My scalp flakes a lot and it always produces these little hard keratinized bulbs when the hair falls our.Other symptoms include eyelash fall, styes on my eyes, small pimples on my face, changes in my skin, itchy forehad, bleeding scalp, and beaus lines on my nails, along with minor pitting.
Avatar m tn I also have some redness/flaking skin occurring around my nose, eyebrows and forehead. I have done some research and the symptoms of my scalp and face seem to be consistent with seborrhiec dermatitis. Any help with treatment possibilities would be appreciated.
Avatar n tn It sounds like seborrheic dermatitis, which is an inflammatory version of dandruff. I have it in my eyebrows -- it's white and flaky, with no redness until recently, and it started off in one part of one eyebrow, and then it spread. Now recently it has spread to my entire eyebrow. I've tried a lot of things. Using Nizoral shampoo once a day seems to help a little. I also take the following supplements: evening primrose oil, multivitamins, cod liver oil, and sometimes, probiotics.
1738109 tn?1331412572 Psoriasis is a skin condition that causes you to itch and have dandruff. I have spalp psoriasis so its only in my hair and sones times my eyebrows. It can be aggravated by stress. Another kind is called plaque psoriasis. This is red flaky patches all over the body. I have a friend with that one. She's miserable when she gets an outbreak. Oh and it's not contagious but it can be genetic for either kind.
Avatar f tn I now have very severe dandruff, with scabs on my scalp, and my hair has begun to thin--my eyebrows are nearly as bad as my lashes. I don't know if any of this is related, but it has made me very self-conscious about it and everything I do does not help.
Avatar m tn More often than not, the hair will have that white bulb on the end of it – my eyebrows have a similar problem as well. I plan on seeing a dermatologist, and possibly and endocrinologist, soon, but until then, if anyone has any ideas as to what the problem might be I would appreciate any help. Thank you.
Avatar n tn I also have a butterfly rash across my face which comes and goes on a daily basis. This rash extends to my eyebrows and is characterised by flaky skin. I have been using oroxine for two years but when I take it seems to flair up my face and when I ease off it my scalp flairs up. The rash doesn not itch. I am in a quandry. Dont get me wrong though I am still a very handsome fella. I hope this makes sence as I am speaking Australian. Does Oroxine have long term side effects on hair growth.
Avatar m tn Hi, since last spring I've been getting dandruff in my eyebrows. It's almost always in the left eyebrow. I went to see the doctor about this around May and he prescribed an alcohol based gel because he thought it was some kind of infection or fungus and that the gel would get rid of it. The gel just makes my skin ridiculously flaky where it wasn't flaky before so I only used it a few times and stopped. I've included some photos in case it might help...
Avatar f tn I do have dandruff in my hair. I was diagnosed with Seborrheic Dermatitis by my dermatologist at the age of 21. Not knowing any better when I was younger I tried everything over the counter for acne, but I didn't have acne. I definitely do not have rosacea because I never got pustules. I have tried: Metrogel Finacea Desonate Nizoral Shampoo on my face head and shoulders on my face and Desonide lotion. the only thing that works is desonide lotion.

Avatar m tn ll get a random itch on my eyebrows or after a shower there will be this white pasty liquid around my eyebrows . which is the dandruff and sebum combination. I would ask a derm about the ketacanozole shampoo it did wonders for me. Good luck.
Avatar n tn I have been noticing an unusual amount of hair loss for approx 1 month, especially in shower and when running my hands through my hairhair comes out of my scalp even with the most gentle rubbing with my hands. My hair is now noticeably thinner in volume and different in shape to me but perhaps not others. It is all over not in patches (as far as I have noticed). My Eyebrows are thinning noticeably also and I notice a lot of eyebrow hair shed each day.
Avatar m tn This skin disease commonly affects adolescents and young adults, especially in warm and humid climates and is aggravated by sweating and humidity. Topical antifungals and mild steroids are the usual treatment and combination of the two can be used to treat stubborn patches. Oral antifungal drugs and immunomodulators such as tacrolimus and pimecrolimus are used in very severe cases. Please get this possibility also evaluated from your dermatologist.
Avatar m tn i noticed it everytime i cut my beard hair. well about a year ago i got it on my cheek and then on my mustache and in nasal folds and between my eyebrows. once i figured out what it was i was depressed i didnt eat, i begin to feel fatigue and was constipated becuase i read hiv is a main cuase. i havent had any fevers or wieght loss. or diahrea.
Avatar n tn You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. If the symptoms persist, then it would be best to get it confirmed from a dermatologist. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.
Avatar n tn Over the past few months ive developed dandruff i think then my head started to itch and now i have 2 hard bumps on the back of my head close to my neck and in my hair. its really irritating me what should i do?
Avatar m tn It shows up as well in my eyebrows. My eyebrows dry out and peel skin underneath the hair. I hate it. Also I get like red bumps on the hairline of my scalp and it spreads all through out my scalp. Even around my ears where my sideburns are. Its embarrassing because it gives me a ridiculous amount of dandruff. I use selsun blue, but it doesn't do anything. I'm thinking it might be dermatitis. What alergy medicine should I take for this? Any news or help on this would be great.
Avatar n tn You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription). If your hair is colored, don't use products with selenium sulfide or sulfur. Also check out the above causes of dandruff.
Avatar f tn I had a constant sensation of things crawling all over and biting my scalp, my eyebrows, and inside my ears. I would even find many sores and scabs on my scalp and in my ears and this was not due to my scratching or harming my skin. **I was also experiencing this problem with my eyebrows and on my eyelashes. I also believe that it’s important to state that I have an impaired immune system due to having Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.
Avatar m tn My boyfriend went to someone's house the other day and their living area including them themselves were very dirty. Ever since (it's been about 6 days) he has been complaining that it feels like he has bugs crawling in his facial hair and eyebrows. He doesn't have the sensation anywhere else. It's not lice because I don't think his facial hair is long enough for lice. Any ideas on what it could be?
Avatar f tn t have flakes in or around eyebrows or eye lids.I have it around chin alot and few on nose line.
1880475 tn?1579232941 The areas where the particles are produced are head, nose, eyebrows and genital, area all with hair. It loves the eyebrows because of the hair thickness. If you get a handheld USB microscope on Ali Baba for $50 you can see these fibers wrapped around your hair and on scalp. The only thing that helped with the PATM reactions is this and it lasts about 2 days. So you have to keep using. But there is no question PATM reactions will go away for at least 1 day .
Avatar f tn I experience a lot of itching in them. I oil my scalp regularly and use an anti dandruff shampoo but so far no improvement. I have 4-5 such patches on my scalp and every time i brush my hair, a lot of dandruff comes out. Someone please advise!
