Coughing keeps me up at night

Common Questions and Answers about Coughing keeps me up at night

coughing

My 2 year old kid has been coughing most days at night? Anyone know what it could be? Anyone know how to get in touch with a pediatrician over the phone or web? Would not mind getting an opinion from home as my next appointment is not for a month.
Sometime when her allergies are acting up - she'll get a chronic cough only at night. She'll start coughing as the evening goes on and by 2 am - it is constant until about 6am. Then it seems to disappear until the following evening. She doesn't have this problem all the time, just occassionaly, but she gets it for a week at a time. We've contacted to Dr and he'll prescribe her meds but it doesn't work. Could it be something respitory that I haven't encountered ?

I have been to the doctor and have done various tests done but it all seems to come out clear. I am currently on steriods "predisolone". Can someone please tell me if they have had the same symptoms and suggest what might be causing it?

I have a tickle in the back of my throat and I cough all night. This wakes me up frequently, and I have a hard time stopping the tickle and coughing. This keeps me from getting adequate sleep. I have tried over the counter and prescription cough medicines. I was on allegra and my doctor has switched me to zyrtec. There has not been any improvement. When I am having a bad night I have to keep 2 lozenges in my mouth to get any sleep. Some nights after getting to sleep I wake coughing and choking.
With our 20month old she gets nasty cold like symptoms when she teeths and usually is awaken by coughing at night. But coughing isnt always what wakes her. Sometimes she just wakes up whimpering, you go in there to comfort her and she goes back to sleep and then repeats the cycle about 1 or 2 hours later. She sleeps with a night light that isnt too bright but isnt too dark either. she sleeps with stuffed animals and likes the noise of a fan.
I just found out that I am pregnant, I'm not sure yet as to how far along I am, but the Doctor assumes I'm aprox. 7 to 8 weeks along, I have had an awful cough that keeps me up at night, takes my breath away and leaves me almost choking. I was given a puffer by the Doctor at the Clinic who did the pregnancy test. But he did not tell me to even get prenatul vitamins, so I'm not sure if I should even be on this puffer, it is also not working, are there any other remedies?
You'd best go to a doctor or maybe even someone whom experiences it or has experienced it in the past. I would probably go and first learn about allergy and asthma in Minneapolis. NM if I were you.
30 at night and vomits but proceeds to fell fine with no signs of sickness during the day. My thoughts are dietary allergy or some sort of post nasal drip as I also have a 2 year old who has not at all been effected. Although I'm not a doctor and cant assume otherwise. If this "illness" continues to occur then I will proceed to either the ER and or my family doctor. But I am still very concerned.
However, during the night once the chills cease I do sweat to which someone told me it could be I have a 'bug' in me at the time because once morning hits I'm very tired and at times tend to over sleep . After 3 days rest I've returned to my old self. I'm on my 3rd day of recovery now from my last episode now till next episode occurs..hopefully never. HELP PLEASE.
I have the same problem. Feels fine at night and keeps getting worse throughout the day. I have tried medication for GERD- nasal steroid and Allegra- so far nothing works. I also tried the saline nasal rinse and and my ears got clogged. Drinking 8 glasses of water a day, tried apple cider vinegar and again no relief. Seems to feel slightly better if I keep my head down or way up. Have been to ENT and Internist. Have an appointment next month with GI. Getting desperate.
30 in the morning to get to class at university, and only come home at around 7 or 8 at night), and over-exertion during the move. Is it possible that a flu could cause nausea and pain for a few weeks without causing a fever or a runny nose in all that time?
Went on 1000mg/day Ceftin last Wednesday. Then spent all night Thursday night in the ER hooked up to an IV getting 3 different antibiotics pumped into me along with large dose of steroids. At the time my right bronchial tube was completely full as was my right middle lobe. Oh, did I mention I ended up there b/c my hands and feet turned purple? Was sitting in a dark living room watching TV and decided to get in a hot shower to try and break up the cr@p in my chest.
It got better when I started sleeping more and trying to eat healthy foods, also I visited a friend at college (I was feeling better) but then I got up there and ended up getting a headache and feeling bad again (it sort of went away when I ate more though like it was a hunger head ache cuz I neglected eating cuz of the long drive). Felt better after eating, and we partied that night (yea yea leave me alone). I won't say I was really drunk but like, the next morning I felt completely fine.
More mucus in the mornings and it can wake me up at night. I have been tested for asthma and allergies and don't have either. Lung function tests are normal. CT scan was normal. On Advair 500- 2x per day, Atrovent, Salbutamol 4x per day, and Allegra 24 as per doctors orders. Some days are better than others, but feel like constantly fighting another chest infection/congestion. Had weeks of Amoxicillin, rounds of Doxycycline.
so we stopped that unless he is sick like now he has croup again and he is been coughing up all night long or he is cryin ga lot. I think babies go through different stages and sad to say I am just going to go with the flow, hopfully once he stopped teething, or feeling sick he might go back to his usual if not will see then.
1) when i hold my cat, my arms break out but i was never allergic to her before 2) Keeping my window open keeps me from breaking out but its hard to do that in winter weather.
I avoid cough drops to keep the sweet candy part from causing phlem. I have no clue why this keeps building up in my throat. I went to an Allergy Dr..Ear Nose & Throat specialist. He gave me two nasal sprays, one twice a day other one time a day. Astilin & Nasonex. He said the mucus/phlem was cause from Nasal/Sinus drainage. I used them for a month and nothing changed....this was in March of 2007. And it is worse now. Constant. This has been going on for about 4 yrs now.
She didn't cough while we were there.....so he didn't find a problem. The coughing became more frequent. I boarded her at the vet for about a week and they said they never heard her cough. So I finally videoed a couple of the episodes. When the vet saw the videos, he x-rayed her heart and said she had congestive heart failure. She is now on LASIK for her heart. About a year before she was diagnosed with cogestive heart failure, she was put on rimadyl for her arthritis.
Working in a office is horrific when I have this cough and I hate it when everyone looks at me. I don't even want my husband or kids looking at me when I'm having a coughing fit. Very embarassing. With all this modern medicine there's got to be something they can do.
It gets better, it gets worse. Yesterday I could not sleep at all due to the coughing. Last night at work I was much better. This morning, I'm feeling worse. I give up. Going to bed. I have to get better before I leave for my trip on Thurs.
especially the middle of the night, screaming and hollering, coughing up snotballs, until mommy or daddy brings me one....THOSE sippy cups. I realize that he needs to drink in the middle of the night and pee the bed because his pediatrician says we have to let him have it in order to help with his nasty post nasal drip, but I have post nasal drip too...but I don't need a dang sippy cup! lol I have tried bribing him with all sorts of things if he uses a big boy cup...nothing works.
The mucus causes me to cough because there always seems to be a tickle in my throat, often giving me headaches, and sometimes I'll sort of throw up mucus--just mucus, not really anything else throw up-like--which causes me to want to really throw up. When I do spit up mucus, I always have really sick feeling that makes me believe it is more than allergies.
Keep me posted if you find out anything. I've had the same chronic cough. I even have to put a paper sack or plastic bag next to my bed to not have to get up and down all night. The phlegm is clear and thread-like. Nobody knows what it is. I don't smoke. I take Allegra two --it might as well be two M&M because it does nothing. First they said it was acid reflux then I had an endoscopy and they said I did NOT have reflux. I noticed the Nexium and Aciphex was not doing anything.
I get a sore throat (not tonsils but when you swallow) I now go straight on antibiotics and use Bricanyl inhaler although it doesnt seem to have much effect except to cause alot of mucus coughed up from the lungs. It causes me to have spasm coughing and if I cannot control this to 3 or 4 coughs my windpipe closes over making it hard to breath in or out. The last one about 2 years ago stopped me breathing in and out completely for 10 to 15 seconds and I thought I had bought it.
I told the doctor and he said that was because of my coughing. I am having this very very bad cough that keeps me awake whole night.. any remedy girls... Which is the best/safe medicine? My doc mentioned few. I am really avoiding meds worried that might affect the baby. Anya-Your back pain is more because of you constantly sitting in front of the computer. Try to put a pillow on the chair so that you can rest your back comfortably.
If it were me, and I had his pain and was getting more uncomfortable at night with it, I would want to be worked up with a new set of labs, and I would want them to rule out any liver problems. IBS could be causing all of this, too, but you deserve to have any liver problem ruled out. If you ever vomit anymore blood (could also be a sign of liver problems) someone needs to order an upper GI (endoscopy) on you, for sure.
I sleep in about 2 hour spurts and then I get up and start coughing again. No rest. Plus, they are making me take steroids - which aren't good for me - make me really *itchy on top of it. DANG!
This was essentially the topic at my mens' meeting last night -- we were discussing how to deal with serious injury, surgery, etc. in recovery. One clear theme is that WE have to be responsible for our own recovery. This means telling every doc or dentist we see the truth and, if necessary, explaining what we can and can't have. It also means double-checking: "now, is this ok for ME to take?
