I'm going on a trip and I won't have my methadone for 3 days. My doc gave me Clonidine to stop the nausea. Will that work?

Hi there, I am tapering down from methadone, was at 130mgs two years ago, and am currently at 41mgs, now tapering 2mgs/ week. I know this is a low and slow taper but still I am not feeling so great. I keep getting hot flashes, nausea and going hot and cold, it's uncomfortable. My methadone doctor suggested clonidine for these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it and I was wondering if it helps much, and is it worth even taking? Thanks for your responses...

I am going hot and cold and getting hot flashes and really nauseous. My methadone doctor told me that clonidine will help these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it. anyone know how long the clonidine patch takes to start working, I started using it last night for opiate withdrawls. 6 yrs. of use and it is time to end this vicious cycle; i was taking 60 mg. methadone for a back problem a day. today is day 2.

s my experience day 1 15mgs of methadone in a.m clonidine in afternoon then 1 b4 bed day 2 10mgs of methadone in a.m and again clonidine as needed day 3 10 mgs of done day 4 5mgs done 1 clonidine at bed day 5 5mgs done again 1 clonidine at night.

Today we both decided to go to our separate doctors and spill the beans. I went to my pcp and told him everything. He prescribed me methadone and clonidine. I want to quit cold turkey. During my detox from methadone I used clonidine & yes it really does work wonders, I used it 4 days after taking my last dose of methadone & it saved me from many bad days, Im not saying I felt great on clonidine as I did,nt, but I sure felt more relaxed & could sleep.

Yes Clonidine does help some. Also check out the Thomas Recipe for vitamins and supplements that will help too. And Larrys Recipe too. But don't take the xanax etc as that will just cause more problems.

That is a dangerous mix. Did the doctor prescribe the Clonidine? If not, please speak with him/her before even attempting this. No doctor worth their weight would suggest that combination.

I have recently quickly transitioned from methadone to suboxone. while on methadone for 10 years I was taking a quite high dose of clonidine for excessive sweating. The doctor told me to continue on the clonidine and we would taper down on that once I was on a stable dose of suboxone. He said there are no harmful interactions between the two. But whenever I take the clonidine it feels like it is kicking me into withdrawal again. severe agitation anxiety racing heart dizziness and double vision.

they are speaking of using benzos like xanax after you have stopped the methadone and are in WDs....I have never taken methadone but my son worked at a clinic and if the person tested positive for benzos they could not have their dose and it was against the rules...You should talk to your doctor about any medications u decide to use...especially if you are still taking methadone....it is good that you are interested in quitting..lots of support here..

Tues will take lase clonidine pill then that eve switch to clonidine patch. Next day stop all methadone. Dr said she will call me everyday will increase clonidine patch continue to use Valium for anxiety and tramadol if needed. I am pretty nervous cause I am doing this alone at home what do you think?

Go lower if possible with your methadone before stopping. People say the lower the less withdrawal. The doc will give you clonidine and valium no problem, if you tell him what it's for, but I would only take 2.5mg valium with 50mg clonidine, I took them every 4 hours for 3 days, then once a night, I only needed the meds for 8 days. Double check with your doc this will work for you. He may want you to do something different. Best of luck to you.

Could be the Clonidine. Sounds like you were taking hefty amounts? How is your BP? Discontinuing Clonidine can cause a rebound hypertension. Be sure your doc is aware you were on it, and how much you were taking.

s but only a caring doctor will give it, most would rather see you suffer....i took .1 mg of clonidine 3 times daily...worked tremendously well...if taking clonidine will help get you off your d.o.c.,...take it as your doctor has prescribed it...regardless of what you think MIGHT happen...it does help more than i can describe, i think it is a miracle drug for wd's. i took it for 10 days, then tapered for 3, it is not addictive, but you have to taper to avoid rebound high BP...

Well, today I ran across someone who has Clonidine and Methadone 10mg pills and has really no use for them. I have been trying to research online for hours now and have gotten so much mixed information on the methadone, I don't know what to do. The Clonidine, I understand lowers your BP and is supposed to help with withdrawals I have read many, many times. But, the methadone is what I'm sooo confused about.
