I was on Celexa, for 3 months last year but it didn't do much for me, in fact it was like i wasn't on it at all, the only bad side effect was loss of sex drive and libido etc. no weight gain or loss that i noticed. I have bipolar 1, and was on other medication at the time. as you probably know everyone is different when it comes to these types of medication so please don't be discouraged by my comment. My dad was on it for 10 years and said it was the best thing he had ever tried for depression.
NOw she has increased my dosage to 20 mg for celexa and the lowest dose of clonazepam twice everyday. I am taking celexa regularly but i only take clonazepam once at night time, is it bad, do i have to take it twice as she had asked to. My reason for not taking in daytime is becasue i have three kids who are home these days and i cannot sleep while they are home or feel sleepy and suffer fro headaches if i dont sleep.
im so upset, my dr put me on abilify in september with my effexor, my libido got very low and i wasnt able to come, now the dr is taking me off effexor and abilify and put me on celexa...now my libdo is completely gone and i cant come at all....it was the only thing i had left i was able to enjoy, i could always get in the mood and able to come fast and at least 2 times, now it just hurts and i dont want to do it....is this from the celexa?
Ever since i started my zyprexa[antipshychotic] and celexa. effexor[antidepressants] my sex drive and errectionsare weak. is there anything i can take or do to help this?
At about the same time I started therapy I also started taking Celexa. This is the same time I lost my libido. I am sure if the lost libido is a side effect of the medication or working through some childhood trauma, either way, I would like some advice. My therapist would prefer I take it very slow, but after two years of therapy, I am desperate to have sex again! What do you think?
I have been taking celexa and my private parts tingle and I have recently been more sexually triggered with women and pictures....is this the celexa?
I have similiar problems - i have no sex drive and my erections are weak. I am on zyprexa, celexa, and effexor[antiphsychotic, antidepressents]. Is there anything i can take to improve and return my sexual desires?
I currently take 40mg of celexa at night and am taking 37.5 mg of phentemerine. I have not noticed any side effects but what are they I am curious if ever i noticed something different about myself. I cant find anything on the internet to find an answer to this question.
the bad news-i have noticed a complete lack of libido and disinterest in sex and have been unable to achieve orgasm. in addition i sometimes feel spacey and tired. will this pass? is this it?i guess this is better then before but i didnt think this was to have any side effects like this?
I started taking Celexa about a month ago ( 10mg) and I've noticed that occassionally my skin feels very hot esp.. on my arms. Does Celexa cause this and is this something that will eventually go away?
today is the 12th, and i stopped taking Celexa on the 2nd... so it's been 10 days. i'm having the disorienting electric-shock symptoms all the time (first symptom), i am very irritable, feel like i could jump out of my skin at any moment, and as of today feel like crying at the drop of a hat, or yelling at almost anyone- i feel like i need to be doing something with my hands all the time, or i need to be asleep because i can't really pay attention to much.
I started on Effexor 5 wks ago and was having trouble urinating and have ejaculation pain. Stopped the Efxxor after 3wks and went to Celexa. Have been on for 2wks and still have the problem. Has anyone had to strain to actually get the urine started were now i have straining pain in my groin. Plus delayed ejaculation?
I was NEVER like this before I began taking Celexa. I laughed a lot and found joy in small things. Also its a major effort to get up and go to work and it never was before. Is this a permanent thing? Is it maybe not from going off Celexa and I just need mental help? I struggle every day with this and pray it will stop soon. Please help!
I'm curious. I've seen alot of people using celexa complain of fatigue and weight gain which can be typical of some SSRIs. I've noticed that several people have had a drop in T4 while on celexa (TSH/T4 checked prior to initiating antidepressant therapy). Is there any literature out there on this? Can you offer some enlightenment? Thank you.
OK, (blush), I'm going to pose a question that truly makes me appreciate the anonynmity of this forum. How does tx effect male libido and ..........? (and for that matter, I'm also interested in how it effects female libido and............) ? If it impairs either, then what is the time line for it to return.
I have been taking Celexa and adderall together for about a year now and things have been working great. My only problem has been the sexual side-effects which have made my sex drive almost nothing. Because I entered into a serious relationship within these past couple months my doctor and I started discussing potential drugs that would increase my libido. She suggested Buspar. However, I have only been taking Buspar for two days and feel like it is having a counteractive affect on my adderall.
I am completely off the drugs after 2 weeks cold turkey and still have the decreased sensation in my penis and lowered libido. I am anxious and have OCD which is my reasoning for getting on the medication in the first place and I feel I might be obsessing over this issue, but there is no doubt these side effects remain and I've heard horror stories that they never go away. Any information you can provide? Does going cold-turkey make it worse?
So far, for me, it has been great. My libido is not affected and I am starting to feel better after 13 days. Be careful taking all of these at once. Zoloft is a good one and begins working quickly. Is a MD prescribing these meds? Wellbutrin only worked for me when I tried to quit smoking like 7 years ago. (I am not a doctor so please don't take this as official advice).
I would speak with your psychiatrist to see if there are other alternatives. I switched over to a mood stabilizer and I have my libido back full force!
Here is just one of many articles on HCV and how it CAN affect libido, and erectile function in men. I thought almost everyone was aware of these potential associations with HCV, but maybe not. There have been a number of articles written on the subject, and though it does not seem to affect everyone, it does appear that a significant percentage of men with HCV report definite issues. Here is the article, which also references studies done: http://www.hepatitis-central.
He said everything looked fine to him, and that it was probably the Celexa that I was taking at the time. So, I stopped taking it. This was about a year ago, and since then there has been no improvement. Now, it used to be that I would get maybe one day per month where I had something resembling a normal sex drive. But, for the past few months, I haven't even had that. Things that used to turn me on, be it porn, fantasizing, erotica, etc. no longer do.
I'm a 22 year old female and have been taking celexa off and on for a while. I have been diagnosed with clinical major depression and I thought celexa was helping me, until now. I was first put on celexa a few years ago, and although I was skeptical about it, I couldn't deny that it was helping me. However, at that time, I was in a long distance relationship overseas and as such my sex life was practically non-existent.

I stuck it out and once the side effects cleared I felt great - more sociable/connected to people and increased confidence (and libido!).The only down side was that my appetite came back with a vengeance I have gained around 15-20lbs since going on it and this is really starting to get me down. Has anyone switched from Prozac to Citalopram (or another AD) and lost weight? I'm in the UK where they don't prescribe Wellbutrin unfortunately.
I understand that Celexa and Wellbutrin are in different drug classes and work though different biochemical paths but do not understand what the difference is. i. How can I make an intelligent decision on which one to substitute for Nortyrptyline? ii. Which is more likely to reduce libido and ability? Can either one increase them? iii. Will Celexa act as a sedative like Norytrytyline (which is very helpful for sleeping, but also builds dependency)? iv.
My side effects on the SSRI's (Celexa, Zoloft, Effexor) were a jittery racey type anxiety, sexual side effects (less on Celexa), and overslept in the mornings before work because I was so groggy (mornings only). This doctor said I have depression/anxiety, not a mood disorder. I moved so I now go to a new new doctor and he says I have a mood disorder, not depression/anxiety, because people with mood disorders typically have increased anxiety on SSRI's.
Worry about ED and libido loss thus often becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. If you can relax about this (and your comment about "it's been two days" suggests you are definitely overly anxious), you can begin to explore your sexuality in a whole new way. I wish you the best.
The celexa worked great but I had no libido so he took me off of it and put me on Wellbutrin and Ambien. I went straight from the celexa to the wellbutrin. After 4 days of taking the wellbutrin I started to have these weird dizzy spells everytime I turn my head, it is especially bad after I wake up, sometimes I even feel like I could fall over. I have not taken the medication in 5 days and I still feel dizzy.
