ve recently been prescribed Celexa (I plan to do about 20 mg for 9 months to a year). I know that Celexa, like any SSRI, causes sexual side effects like low libido, erectile dysfunction, and anorgasmia. My question is: Will these side effects wear off after I stop the Celexa? Can anyone who has experience with Celexa or other SSRIs tell me if their sexual side effects wore off after the treatment was over?
I started on Effexor 5 wks ago and was having trouble urinating and have ejaculation pain. Stopped the Efxxor after 3wks and went to Celexa. Have been on for 2wks and still have the problem. Has anyone had to strain to actually get the urine started were now i have straining pain in my groin. Plus delayed ejaculation?
I have been taking Celexa and adderall together for about a year now and things have been working great.
My only problem has been the sexual side-effects which have made my sex drive almost nothing. Because I entered into a serious relationship within these past couple months my doctor and I started discussing potential drugs that would increase my libido. She suggested Buspar. However, I have only been taking Buspar for two days and feel like it is having a counteractive affect on my adderall.
s going to be trial and error. That being said, all antidepressants can cause loss of libido and weight gain, and they can also not cause it. But they are very common side effects. I've suffered both with every ssri I've taken that has had an effect on me, but to varying degrees, but others haven't suffered this at all.
I had to switch to celexa like a week ago cause I figured out that it was the darn sertraline giving me headaches. Anyways, for a loooong time my libido was way way way down. Im only 20 and thats so strange for me lol after about 3 months it got better. Not like before but I could get off again. Also it helped with everything, concentration, anxiety and depression.
Hi, I've been on Zoloft for 15yrs (50mg) for debilitating anxiety. Zoloft gave me my life back (also did a lot of CBT). I have still had panic attacks on Zoloft (but rarely) and usually I have triggered it by having too much alcohol followed by little sleep - a lethal combination for me. Overall Zoloft has been a Godsend and the only issue I've had is a lack of libido. After in depth discussions with my Dr's I had accepted that Zoloft was part of my life and that was ok.

I am convinced that my Celexa is a major culprit in my weight gain. Before Celexa, I was on Zoloft, and the first week on Zoloft I lost weight, but then stabilized and slowly began to gain weight. the weight gain was not a big amount but it did happen.
Then a few yrs later, I began having problems on Zoloft so my Doc switched me to Celexa, and "whamo!", BIG WEIGHT GAIN! It was amazing!
On top of the weight gain, Celexa has made me lethargic and very tired.
t on it at all, the only bad side effect was loss of sex drive and libido etc. no weight gain or loss that i noticed. I have bipolar 1, and was on other medication at the time. as you probably know everyone is different when it comes to these types of medication so please don't be discouraged by my comment. My dad was on it for 10 years and said it was the best thing he had ever tried for depression.
Prozac makes me irritable, Zoloft made me sick and more anxious, and Lexapro made me too tired and took my libido away. I am 3 1/2 years sober from alcohol. Any suggestions on a medication that might help? I cannot wait for a month for it to work and am nervous to try benzo's due to the addiction factor, though I have not had experience being addicted to pills other than adderoll when i was in college. WOuld Celexa be a good thing to try?
I am also on 40mg of Celexa daily. I have tried other antidepressants, all of which affected my sex drive. However, Celexa has not interfered with that part of my life at all. I've only been taking it for about a year and a half now, and have had no issues. Maybe its the interactions of all the drugs you take together. Or maybe your body is changing and buliding up a resistant to the long-term usage of this medication.
With me the Celexa just killed my libido and had no desire for anything. My doctor then weaned me off the Celexa and put me on the Bupropion XL. He started me for 7 days on 150 mg and then went to 300 mg. Everyone is different but the Bupropion gave me back my libido and still keeps my depression in check. I do recall my doctor saying the Bupropion can take a few weeks to get the full effect since I had already been on the Celexa.

You mentioned Effexor, which is an SSRI that I have never taken myself. Also, you mentioned Furosemide and WellButrin.
Forgive my naivite' but aren't Furosemide and Wellbutrin two different medicines?... Or have they given Wellbutrin a generic name now? I can't keep up w/ all these new SSRI's anymore! LOL!
My husband was put on Celexa 40 mg. Before he was put on the medication he had no problem getting in the mood to have sex. After being put on the medication, it took forever for him to have an orgasm, and sometimes couldn't at all. He's has been off Celexa for almost 2 months and we now have sex all the time it seems. He can get in the mood very easily and can have one quickly. Antidepressants mess with you libido and sexual desire.
