Im just worried about taking a new medication,, afraid it may cause the palpitations to be worse, better yet cause a dangerous arrythmia!! Any advice would be great!!
But, u should have an idea as to the root cause of ur GERD....like if u have a hiatal hernia.... Also note that low acids in the stomach can feel just like too much.It can also be med induced...so look at ne meds u may have been on recently or during the time frame u have had these issues. Antibiotics also knock out the natural balance in ur system and if u have had a need for them u may want to ask about a probiotic to restore balance.
something has triggered it like the H-pylori and by not taking the antibiotics for them; it just got worse but the antibiotics will still kill the infection, you just might need a double dose. other things can trigger IBS. Most common triggers have to deal with alergies and intolorence to certain foods, spices or perservatives in the food.
The antibiotics in the Prevpak can cause heartburn as well. I would still suggest giving it a bit more time...
I was just wondering if anyone else here has had the same experience with taking PPIs for reflux and ulcers. I'm on 40mg Protonix and the last couple of days after I've taken them, the heartburn starts. I'm fine before I take it, no heartburn whatsoever and then boom, it hits after I've had them in my stomach for a while and yesterday it was terrible. I was told to take them before a meal, which I'm doing.
I developed acute gastritis and inflammation of the colon and extreme exhaustion after a short, intense course of antibiotics, a lower long term dose can also cause problems. Antibiotics disrupt the natural ecology of your internal system, more than just yeast overgrowth, it can also kill the good bacteria in your gut, and this imbalance can lead to inflammation.
You will be surprised to know the bacteria responsible for GERD, heart burn, acid reflux etc called Helicobacter Pylori or H pylori can cause hives. Antibiotics given to clear up the bacteria also take care of the hives. Diagnosis is generally by carbon urea breath test. Treatment is a combination of drugs to reduce the acid and lifestyle changes.
So anyway, i wnet due to lower back and abdomen pain both on the right side. During all of this pain i have had and still have severe heartburn. The only time i have ever had heartburn was when i was pregnant with my youngest child. Which was 3 yrs ago. At that time i also had my tubes tied and last march i have the novasure procedure done. Now that i went off course giving u a slight history I'll go back to the er visit.
I asked the doc if it could have been caused by antibiotics, and he said no, but I beg to differ. I KNOW that is the cause of my pain. I have never had any digestive problems in my life until I took that antibiotic. Now, the question is, what do we do about it? They cannot seem to come up with anything to treat my pain, which interferes with my life daily.
During normal breathing, i feel discomfort, but not pain. She said that it is reflux/heartburn. But i didn't tell her that a deep breath is painful. Could they have misdiagnosed this pain? Could something have been damaged in my lung?
One day I remember drinking a Starbucks double shot espresso and falling asleep. Next thing I know, I 'm jolted awake by the most intense heartburn I could never had imagined was possible. I could feel the painful burn from the pit of my stomach, straight up the esophagus. I also had overwhelming nausea. I was sick like this for about 2-3 hours and managed to get a Zantac down about an hour into the event.
She said ulcers are caused by bacteria not heartburn and can only be treated by antibiotics? and a ulcer would cause bad stomach pain not just burning? I have to disagree because i have done tons of research and all my symptoms are general symptoms of a ulcer. i do take zantac, pepto bismol and have been eating bananas which i have read all help ease the symptoms and they really do but for a short period of time.
My heart races, I feel afraid. I'm wondering, does anxiety and panic CAUSE the reflux, or does the reflux cause the anxiety? I am now on Paxil, reflux medication and Ativan. This is debilitating. Only a few moments ago I was on the couch with a wet towel on my head, on the phone with a friend telling her I felt like I was going to die. I felt it in my stomach, that extreme knotting, feeling as if I wanted to burp but couldn't. My heart racing.
I was diagnosed with MS, and recently diagnosed as having Lyme disease (positive western blot). Is anyone being treated with antibiotics, IV or oral treatments for Lyme and/or MS? And also if you are being treated with antibiotics, which doctor do you have - Neurologist, Lyme Doctor, General Practitioner? Also, is your treatment covered by your Insurance?
Hi...antibiotics can cause heartburn and acid reflux in that they kill off all bacteria...unfortunately we need good bacteria to help us digest our food. SO it feels like u may have too much acid, when in fact u may not have enuff right now. Ask ur dr about a pro biotic to help with the stomach issues. R u sure it is ur tonsils giving u the throat pain....mayb they have to come out?.....
I have had non stop heartburn and acid reflux for almost two weeks now. I was treated for an h pylori infection in April which is when these symptoms started. The infection was eradicated. I didn't stay on the PPI (omperazole) for a month afterwards because I was starting to feel better. Then the heartburn came back. I had an endoscopy and everything was normal. Dr. gave me tecta (pantoprazole) 40 mg which I tried for a week but did not work at all.
I am pretty healthy, generally excerciseand usually eat healthy foods. I am 5'7'' an 120 lbs. Two weeks ago I started getting heartburn and stomach aches. One week ago I went to my pcp and he gave me Dexilant. I have been taking 60mg daily (before lunch). I do no have a stomach ache but the heartburn is throughout the day, mainly at my breastbone and then I feel it in my left armpit. Everything I eat is giving me heartburn. I have been eating very lowfat or fat free foods and small meals.
These were during times when I was having symptoms very frequently prior to starting the antibiotics. The antibiotics were erythromycin and cephalexin, taken about 2 years apart. It seems that these antibiotics have some positive effect on my vagus nerve endings in my stomach such that they stop getting stimulated or irritated. It is as if the antibiotics effected the stomach lining, perhaps killing bacteria and healing it such that the vagus nerve endings are better protected.
From this point, my health went steadily downhill… From everything I have read, these 2 (Antibiotics and Steroids) are the “double whammy” when it comes to killing your gut. Soon after the “double whammy”, I got the worse stomach flu and then 3 weeks of constipation. The antibiotics wrecked my stomach which then led to chest pains which I thought was a heart issue because I never had it before, this led to pepcid and a lot of stress tests and CT scans.
She ended up getting an infection in her brain and needed more life-saving, heavy-duty IV antibiotics and oral antibiotics. This occurred the first week of June 2008 and antibiotics were continued for about 2 or 3 weeks (if I recall correctly--not sure exactly how long she was on oral antibiotics. ) Anyway, fast-forward....By the 4th week of July 2008, my Mom starts getting diarrhea off and on, and it begins to get worse.
I started on Rifampin my 2nd week. I think it helped some, but it also made my stomach hurt worse and gave me heartburn. After about 11 weeks, I mentioned that my stomach pain just wasn't improving. I was switched to Levaquin and the stomach pain declined noticeably within 2-3 days. I also felt better on the Levaquin, and my anxiety disappeared.
It does not matter what i eat, it generally does not digest well and if i eat anything spicy it burns really bad the next day at the site of my anus, usually for the entire day. I have kind of a heartburn feeling most of the time and my stomach feels upset some of the times. Ive done research on my own to find that i could have UC, but also the same type of problems I am having are suggesting Crohn's.
When did it start, and when did it become a cause for concern for baby? Did babies diet change before dr even talked about the meds? Please elaborate Who first mentioned the meds you or dr? How long did it take for the meds to work? If you did nto do meds and did cereal did it make things better and how? I hope I am not stepping on anyones toes here, I am not meaning too, I am hoping some of you have wondered the same thing.
I went to my doctor and while urinalysis didn't show signs of infection, my white blood cell count was right on the edge of being high, so she switched my antibiotics. Eventually I felt better, but I still didn't feel well. I scheduled a physical. I mentioned that I hadn't been feeling well and how I was getting upset stomach/nausea, because I have a history of heartburn/indigestion, she thought it could be related to that, though, I'd not had any flare ups recently.
I have to questions. First how long will you feel sick after eating the gluten? Second can celiac cause sharp stabbing pains in the URQ of you abdomen. It feels kind of like a gallbladder attack(which I had removed 6 years ago) but doesn't last long just will come and go over a few hours.
Does anyone know or have experience with taking Digoxin or Metoprolol and did it cause you to have a choking feeling? I have been on both for about 5 weeks now and have had this choking sensation for about that long. I have been sent for an ultrasound of my neck and they found nothing. My Internest acted like it was in my head and told me to take Tylenol. Maybe she thought I was trying to get pain meds out of her. That just didn't make sense. I am not in pain.
forgot the name but its the one thought to cause ulcers. Had a 2 week course of Prevacid and antibiotics but symptoms still occur. None of my Drs. have an answer.
I go on Prilosec, Nexium, then Protonix with no apparent change. I have never had heartburn or other symptoms. I do not feel spit up in my throat. Test for H. Pylori is negative. Test for liver, kidney function is A-OK. Barium Upper GI shows reflux and proper stomach emptying. No ulcers. No hiatal hernia.
