Common Questions and Answers about Abscess cat tail

abscess

Avatar f tn s caused a hematoma which would need to be treated by your vet. Sadly, my neighbors cat was never treated and the end of the tail eventually fell off, but not before both infection and lots of pain, I'm sure. Please let us know how he is after the vet!
Avatar f tn t know how she received a terrible wound at the end of her tail. My neighbor never took her cat to the vet (much to my dismay, but you can only encourage someone so much) and the tail ended up rotting and falling off! I hope you were able to make an appt with your vet. Since you don't touch her tail much, no telling how long this has been going on.
Avatar n tn she lives with multiple cats and lots of other types of pets.we do not give her flea medioson because she is an indoor cat. 1 cat in our house is an out door cat, the rest arn't.( for the past couple months she has also been peeing all around my house) please help me!
Avatar n tn It could be an abscess of some kind from an injury received outdoors. My one cat used to develop infections from flea bites (she was very sensitive to those). Perhaps the larva you're thinking of is cuterebra (nasty little things). But you'd be able to see a pore (breathing hole) in the lump. Do not attempt to squeeze it out. It needs to be removed by someone who knows how to do that without rupturing the larva. Then again, it may be some kind of cyst.
Avatar f tn My cat has a small hole under her tail near her butt she is eating and drinking jumping up and down on stuff I don't know what to do

Avatar n tn ve had since he was a kitten is now around 1 and half yrs old. great friend, lap cat. started thrashing his whole tail from side to side and tried to bite it when he could catch it. I know sounds weird. I took him to vet 3 times anti inflamatories, valium, and cat nip later no improvement. No changes to environment, am at my wits end with him, freaking his companion cat out. love him very much, eats ok drinks water and uses litter really well. does not like cat nip plant.
Avatar f tn my tabby cat is 7 years old.. he used to have a very long tail.. recentley from an accendent he lost 5 centermeters of his tail by surgery.. is it possiable to get a fake tail for him?
Avatar m tn Hi, it sounds to me like the cat got his tail caught somewhere and it was skinned! Honestly, there is no cheap way to fix this! There is a major threat here of a serious life-threatening infection. This is an injury that will NOT get better w/ some home remedy. This needs a vet's attention ASAP. He must find a way to help his cat.......there's Care Credit, post-dated checks, and he can borrow money from someone.
Avatar f tn My mom has a cat that had the same obsession w his tail!! It was like the cat didn't realize that it was HIS tail and it was attached to him. LOL The same exact behavior as you describe and both cats are about the same age. My mom took him to the vet because the behavior got way out of control and his tail was bloody. The vet told her that it was a form of OCD. Yes, I was shocked too. The vet put the cat on some type of antidepressant.
Avatar f tn d get him to a vet ASAP. We had a cat who was attacked by something and her tail was pretty mangled. She disappeared for a few days and her tail became quite infected and ultimately had to be amputate. I highly recommend get it checked out ASAP.

Avatar n tn Cats have skin that heals fast over wounds, and if the wound has bacteria in it, the wound will fester and abscess, as you have seen. Your cat that healed naturally is lucky, this kind of abscess can kill the cat. The trick is to keep the wound clean and keep it open, so it can drain. I would agree that it is from fighting, and it does sound likely to be from fighting with another cat. (It could be a strange cat trying to enter your cats' territory.
Avatar m tn As i was grooming my husky i found a knot the size of a golfball maybe a little bigger sitting on her right side at the base of her tail it was not there a day ago and is causing her to be uncomfortable she dont mind if we look at it as lng as no one touches..she does play hard with other dogs so im unsure if it is from her maybe falling or being tripped by another dog.
577144 tn?1218229447 Hello, I'm Kim, and I am owned by a beautiful fur ball named Elizabeth. She is 16 months old, and was the runt of her litter, so she is still very tiny. She does the strangest thing and has since she was a kitten. She nurses on her own tail, as though it were her mother's nip. Any ideas as to why she would do this or how to possibly get her to stop. I have tried so many things, all the way to putting lemon juice on her tail. I am just not sure what else to do!
Avatar m tn First some back story: Cat had an abscess, took it to the vet. The abscess drained, went back to the vet, gave us some antibiotics. After abscess drained, the cat irritated it a bit, a flap of skin came off revealing tissue, and bone on the right of the jaw/mouth. We went back to the vet, said she couldn't bandage it since it's literally on the mouth, and therefore couldn't eat. Also can't stitch since there's no skin to stitch together.
Avatar n tn the problem begin 5 month ago when i take cat to bath for washing. after washing cat he falls from his left back leg. and after 1 week his two back leg and his tail become lameness. i take it to vet and vet prescribe prednisolone and vitamin b1 and depo-medrol. for 1 week he feel better and can stand and walk few steps. but after 1 week he become like before. i have some treatment for 3 month with my vet but nothing worked. he can still move his back leg's and his tail.
Avatar f tn my male tabby cat is always moving his tail.He swishes it from side to side and up and down. What does this indicate?
6726276 tn?1421126668 The majority of the time when a cat is swishing her tail, she is definitely annoyed or irritated. Often there is a facial expression of annoyance, too, and sometimes the ears go back. If the cat is also growling, someone's husband better get a clue, because that cat may just decide to jump at him and give him what for. And, I would say that he would deserve it for not listening to the cat or her body language.
592047 tn?1243385987 We rushed her straight to the vet who diagnosed an abscess from a cat fight our girl must have got herself into. And he also discovered she is pregnant, and is about 3 weeks along by the feel of things. The vet said he hopes her kittens aren't affected by this abscess / infection. Her temp was 40 degrees celcius also (which I was told is only slightly high for cats).
Avatar n tn I just took my cat to the vet because one side of his face was swollen. He said that he's got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better.
4364738 tn?1353437051 my cat who is 4 years-old has been attacking his tail for the past 5 month we figured he was playing come to find out he has feline hyperesthesia he had bit at his tail taking skin off from the tip to about and 1 inch or 2 and exposed bone i dont have the money to take my cat to a vet right now so i cleaned his tail in hydrogen preoxide put Neosporin on his tail and wrapped it the next day he had bleed threw and the bandages when we took off the bandages a awful oder was coming from the wound an
1399266 tn?1280637104 My 8 year old cat, Kupid was diagnosed with a dental abscess about a week ago and put on clindamycin 1 ml twice a day. When she started she had a pink drainage coming from her right eye and right nostril. Her eye has gotten better and her nose has slightly improved. She is still sneezing and looks terrible but she is eating on her own. This cat has failed the pre anesthesia test twice after having complications during her spay surgery so we are reluctant to put her under to pull her tooth.
