Avatar f tn My two year old cat came home last night and this morning I notice an abscess on the bottom of his mouth. It is the size of a large marble but there are no visible signs of a wound, scratch, cut, ect. I asked some friends about this and they said it was a spider bite, I am watching him close to make sure he is eating still.
Avatar n tn It does sound like a bite to me, and if so, the trick is to locate it and lance the abscess. Antibiotics, not anti-inflammatories, would be called for after cleaning out the wound.
592047 tn?1243385987 We rushed her straight to the vet who diagnosed an abscess from a cat fight our girl must have got herself into. And he also discovered she is pregnant, and is about 3 weeks along by the feel of things. The vet said he hopes her kittens aren't affected by this abscess / infection. Her temp was 40 degrees celcius also (which I was told is only slightly high for cats).
Avatar m tn Hi, is she an indoor/outdoor cat or does she live with more than one cat? If she does, than there's a good chance that this is an abscess(infection from a cat bite). The abscess might not heal on its own, and will probably need a vet to take care of it and put her on antibiotics. Let us know how it goes!!
Avatar m tn If so, he may of gotten into a scuffle with another cat. This is often how abscess happen...from an infected scratch or bite. I know hydrogen peroxide can be safely used, however, what I don't know is if that in itself will take care of it. Best of luck and please keep us posted!
Avatar n tn she lives with multiple cats and lots of other types of pets.we do not give her flea medioson because she is an indoor cat. 1 cat in our house is an out door cat, the rest arn't.( for the past couple months she has also been peeing all around my house) please help me!
Avatar m tn Hello. Good photo, I see what you mean about the middle. This looks like it could be the beginning of an abscess. Maybe from a possible spider bite or a sting from an insect...? I'm not sure though. It doesn't look like an animal bite. Someone else may have an idea. Since this has been going on a week, and is clearly painful for your girl, I would get her to the vet for an evaluation. Keep us posted...
480448 tn?1426948538 And it may not take much to cause an abscess, but after reading that they are indoor/outdoor, a spider bite, or wasp bite might be an allergic reaction that you are seeing. My girls will eat anything crawling on the floor, beetles, june bugs, spiders, they just love bugs....Most times I see them eating something that I went to get a paper towel to remove from the floor, they are that fast at catching the bugs.
Avatar n tn my cat starting limping around about 2 days. he wont let look at his paw to see if something is stuck in it or cut. he also just lays around, doesnt move around much at all. hes not eating very well either. should i take him to the vet, or is he just laying around because his paw hurts?
Avatar n tn Hi, a slight limp is usually no big deal for a cat. It might indicate a strained tendon. If it were a broken bone, she would not walk on the leg at all. When you are looking at her foot, also look at her leg for any possible bites, and also feel her shoulder. So far, it doesn't sound bad. But if you happen to find a bite, get her in to see the vet as soon as possible.
Avatar f tn I too am a HUGE cat lover BUT will tell you dear a cat bite is the worst you can receive for infection and a bad infection....so I found out when my husband under similar circumstances was bitten badly, the next day his hand was so swollen we rushed to the ER...he was put on IV anitbiotics and that lasted 10 days....the doctor said at one point with continued check ups that he could risk loosing the use of that hand...thankfully it finally responded to treatment and healed....
Avatar f tn I agree, it is most likely a cat bite abscess from him being bitten by another cat or another animal. The tooth goes into the deeper tissues and inserts bacteria causing a bad infection. It sounds like the infection has now spread throughout his body because he is feeling so lethargic. He needs to be seen right away and started on appropriate antibiotics and supportive care. As for the ears, your vet can prescribe a topical product for treatment and clean the ears.
Avatar m tn The abscess drained, went back to the vet, gave us some antibiotics. After abscess drained, the cat irritated it a bit, a flap of skin came off revealing tissue, and bone on the right of the jaw/mouth. We went back to the vet, said she couldn't bandage it since it's literally on the mouth, and therefore couldn't eat. Also can't stitch since there's no skin to stitch together.
Avatar n tn My cat has a huge lump on her back. It is where she had a bite/scratch (dont know which). We noticed the mark last Wednesday because she would meow a bad meow when we pet her there. She has fleas if that is relevent. And she had gotten outside the same night we found the mark. So we dont know if it is from the fleas, herself, or another animal. I just need to know what is wrong with her and why there is a huge lump right along her spine.
Avatar m tn Although the antibiotics should usually help, an antiseptic wash is also usually recommended after the pus has been drained out. And if it is an abscess, it is wise to keep it open, keep it bathed with warm water and antiseptic until all the pus is gone, and it shows clean pink skin. I once had an abscess which started to spread to my system. It made me feel very unwell. So he will feel very low right now. I hope all is well. Yes please let us know how he is doing.
456970 tn?1287587447 Use hydrogen peroxide after a bite. The biggest problem is, of course infection. If it does develop infection I'd see a doctor.
Avatar f tn My cat slept all day so I did not notice anything wrong with his eye until this evening. He is squinting (or maybe it is swollen), draining clear fluid, warmer ears than usual ears. He still wants attention and to be petted but does seem to be acting a little different, definitely whiney and maybe a little more attached to me than usual.
1399266 tn?1280637104 My 8 year old cat, Kupid was diagnosed with a dental abscess about a week ago and put on clindamycin 1 ml twice a day. When she started she had a pink drainage coming from her right eye and right nostril. Her eye has gotten better and her nose has slightly improved. She is still sneezing and looks terrible but she is eating on her own. This cat has failed the pre anesthesia test twice after having complications during her spay surgery so we are reluctant to put her under to pull her tooth.
199954 tn?1294944669 Than you can use a topical ointment daily such as benzyl peroxide cream on the lesions after scrubbing then rinsing the lesions with a anti-bacterial soap (if the cat will allow you to). The same information goes for the other mother cat with a sore on the side of her face. She really cannot be treated until she has finished nursing. Her problem may be more serious. It could be a bite wound abscess, or other sore that is healing, or cancer or other problem.
Avatar n tn I just took my cat to the vet because one side of his face was swollen. He said that he's got a tooth abscess in a healthy tooth and that the tooth should be extracted. He said it is unusual in cats and that they don't know the cause. He also suggested some antibiotics for a few days before the surgery to help with the infection. Just wondering if it is worth trying to save the tooth. Go through the course of antibiotics and see if he gets better.
1098760 tn?1266447897 Hes easy, but the black cat, snaggle tooth, that one will bite, cant say I blame him tho. Grey wakes me at night when his needs tended, it hurts him, but I guess less then when its left without constant fresh cleaning. This makes me want to cry. Greys been alerting to seizures and caring for me since last june. and I know a vet will want more then it costs for me to go to a doctor. When did people in such professions become so driven by Dollar Signs? it really sickens me how little they care.
Avatar f tn Keep the hand raised on a pillow kept beside him when he is lying—basically avoid the hand hanging down. If it is an abscess, warm compress will help. If it is an insect bite, then cold compress will help. It would be a good idea to consult a PCP as it is difficult to comment beyond this without examining. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn secondly there are no herbs or natural remedies that will be effective with the treatment of this abscess, kitty will need to be on a medication from your Vet. an abscess can be a life threatening issue, please don't hesitate to have a Vet look after this for kitty. I could give you some idea's on natural remedies to help strengthen his immune system(only) after the surgery if you like, however do be sure and use the antibiotic as prescribed.
