Abscess cat tail

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess cat tail

Avatar f tn my 2 year old male cat has a red painful spot on his tail it is quite small but seems to be extremely painful it is also leaking puss....i will take him to the vet in the morning but is there any thing i can do for him in the mean time??
Avatar f tn This *sounds* like an injury that's caused a hematoma which would need to be treated by your vet. Sadly, my neighbors cat was never treated and the end of the tail eventually fell off, but not before both infection and lots of pain, I'm sure. Please let us know how he is after the vet!
Avatar f tn They discovered that it is an abscess, probably caused by playing hard with our other cat... Once they drained it the vet checked it under the scope and they found no cancer cells and no serious bacteria, just a lot of red & some white blood cells. It's a relief to know it's not serious, just have to do antibiotics and make sure it's draining properly. Thanks for your advice and everything, it definitely helped!

558991 tn?1226064428 Hi! I'm a gynecology med student, and cats are not my forte! My cat, a 4 year old neutered tiger cat, has a vile smell coming from her. It first happened when she went outside after it rained. She came back inside, wet, and immediately began to lick her behind under my bed. She was biting and gnawing at her butt for about 4 hours, not letting anyone come near her. Now, if anyone goes behind her, or scratches the area around her tail or lower back, she begins to growl and swat at them.
199177 tn?1490502134 I realized today my kitty has an abscess down by his tail. I will try to get him into the vet in the AM or Monday soonest possible time . Is there any home care I could do for him.
Avatar n tn It could be an abscess of some kind from an injury received outdoors. My one cat used to develop infections from flea bites (she was very sensitive to those). Perhaps the larva you're thinking of is cuterebra (nasty little things). But you'd be able to see a pore (breathing hole) in the lump. Do not attempt to squeeze it out. It needs to be removed by someone who knows how to do that without rupturing the larva. Then again, it may be some kind of cyst.
Avatar n tn she lives with multiple cats and lots of other types of pets.we do not give her flea medioson because she is an indoor cat. 1 cat in our house is an out door cat, the rest arn't.( for the past couple months she has also been peeing all around my house) please help me!
Avatar f tn Just wondering if anyone else has problems with "picky eaters". My indoor cat eats dry food without problems (does not like inexpensive brands, but eats Friskies). Wet food is a trial and error, mostly error! It seems all she wants is to lick the juice and leaves most of the food behind and I end up throwing it away. On my limited income, that is proving to be an expensive trial and error plan. It doesn't seem to matter what brand I buy, it's the juice alone that interests her.
Avatar f tn My cat has a small hole under her tail near her butt she is eating and drinking jumping up and down on stuff I don't know what to do
Avatar f tn These wounds frequently result in an infection that can be quite debilitating, especially if left untreated. Bite wounds are more common in male cats than in females. However, when a cat bites another cat, his teeth go through the skin, and then he releases quickly. This results in small puncture wounds in the skin, with holes about the same diameter as the cat's teeth. These holes seal within hours, trapping bacteria from the cat's mouth under the skin of the victim.
Avatar m tn (less than 1 yr old) first developed an open sore on his belly, as if an abscess had burst. That healed nicely. But now he has patches of scaly skin on lower back and tail. He has these on it's belly too, but on belly the hair seems to comes of w/ the scaly skin. Around the head pirate has small sores w/ scabs on them. He doesn't like me touching any of it. The scabs are the size of a pinhead to the size of a pencil eraser. No change in appetite, activity, or stool.
480448 tn?1426952138 My cat got like that when she had gotten bitten by a strange cat and had an abscess on her tail that I couldn't see. I'd pat her and she'd hiss. Try looking over the hissing cat (not the other cat) and see if she has any injuries. Other possibility is that they missed an ovary when she was spayed and she is going into heat. A cat of mine had that happen once. Anyway, I would be less likely to think Caesar has the problem as Sassy.
541150 tn?1306037443 I wish I could tell you all that everything resulted as planned. Abby has developed an abscess and they once again had to sedate him and take care of that. Doctors do not feel comfortable sending him home and will call me with an update tomorrow, Tuesday. He is stable and doing fine, they said. But then again they always say the same thing, and then call and tell me he is not healing. I wonder what the heck is going on with my cat. Why can't he heal already?
Avatar n tn The vet told me it would open up and cause an infection and as gross as this is the skin is dying so it is odorous. I have to bandage my cat like a person and clean it everyday. My cat still eats and plays like nothing as wrong. As gross as this tumor is the surgery is so expensive with not a good chance of survival. I opted not to do the surgery and they told me as long as I can handle the grossness of the tumor and as long as my cat still ate and played I wouldnt have to put him down.
Avatar f tn Could be you have an infection that has settled into the lymph nodes in your cheek, like an abscess from a tooth or infection in your ear. Feel of the lymphs in your cheek, and also in the neck between the throat and the corner of the jaw... if either area is tender to the touch, that's an indicator you have an infection in your head somewhere. A dentist can determine if it's a tooth. Your regular doc can do some bloodwork to look for infection, bacteria, and so on.
147426 tn?1317269232 Saturday ride Clara. I am also nursing a cat with an abscess on his leg. Sounds like everyone is busy. I wish everyone good thoughts this week.
Avatar n tn This is the attack that the 6000+ amylase count came from, though it was apparently less severe than the first (pain eased quicker and I was discharged from hospital after only 3 days). I have since had a CAT scan and an ERCP under one of the best pancreatitis specialists in this country (UK) and there is nothing wrong with the tubes, no tumours, etc. So I think I have to accept that I am super sensitive to alcohol and just stay clear.
Avatar n tn One tooth fell out 2 weeks after his yearly visit so back to the vet on Thursday was told no sign of abscess or infection. I gave him bones used enzymatic toothpaste when HE would allow me yet it didn't work out and I feel terribly about this. He was supposed to go in for a dental last year but I put it off b/c my friends said I was insane to put a dog under anesthesia for a cleaning and I was scared to put him under and didn't know what I know now.
2186126 tn?1384961026 She had been struggling with seizures for a year and a half before she suddenly developed a tooth root abscess and was unable to heal from. Sadly, it forced me to put her to sleep w/ in a week. Her teeth didn't seem so bad, though I wanted to have them cleaned last year to be on top of her oral care. However, because of her seizures, my vet didn't want to put her through dental surgery/ anesthesia; this was a mistake. She should have referred me to an animal hospital where they can resuscitate.
Avatar n tn Oh - I am so sorry you had to get that news - thoughts are with you and you will win this battle. xx I too have a hardness under my left breat and it was never painful until recently - went to the docs ages ago about it and they dismissed it as nothing - just breastbone - but I know it feels different to my other breast and I too am always tired.
Avatar n tn Even now several years later I still get phantum pains as if the left testicle was still there. Most recently in September 2009 I had a abscess over top of my right hernia scar. Currently, I'm still experience pain around the hernia scar as well as in the right testical at times. Left side gives me problems on and off. I also have a neurological condition as well as a neurogenic bladder. For the neurvous sytem nerve pain I have been on Lyrica, but currently am back on Amitriptyline.
Avatar n tn I think a doppler ultrasound of the femoral arteries should be done to rule out any circulation problems and if clear then some type of nerve testing should be done along with a cat scan of the abdomen and pelvis. Hope this helps. Shame we have to diagnosis ourselves. By the way, I diagnosed my own kidney tumor!!!!! The Dr. told me not to worry about what was going on!! Glad I didn't listen to him or I would be dead by now.
Avatar n tn ), I fell while jogging only a few weeks before this all began and hit the front of my face on the ground. They did a CAT scan which showed no concussion or skull injury. Could CAT scan radiation actually contribute to causing skull bone problems like dents? There are no headaches although recently for 4 days my scalp would fall asleep and get that pins and needles sensation you do when your foot falls asleep. Very eery feeling! Do any of these match anyone else's observations?

Avatar n tn Like many of you have said, it is comforting to know that there are others out there struggling with the same things as me. I was absolutely terrified when last year I woke up in the middle of the night with loud pulsatile tinnitus in my left ear. Irom that point on I had constant (often daily) headaches/neckaches and this low bass beating in my left ear at night. Often, by morning, my headaches would be worse and the beating in my ear would turn into a roar.
