Abscess cat amoxicillin

Common Questions and Answers about Abscess cat amoxicillin

Avatar f tn My 9 month old cat recently had an abscess that burst on his side. I took him to the vet two days ago and he was put on amoxicillin. Today, right next to the burst abscess there is another abscess formed. There are not visible wounds so there is nowhere to drain from. He does not feel warm to touch on his nose or his ears. The vet is closed for two days and there are no emergency clinics near me. Please offer advice on how to help my Oliver.
Avatar f tn My cat had an abscess on his back - which I have enough experience with to treat myself. I have owned cats for 30 years. I have been able to clear and heal the wound and have been dosing him with amoxicillin. He seems to have an allergy to this antibiotic as I have discovered hes been throwing up in the basement. This is the usual drug I use to treat abscess-type infections and I want to make sure the interior infection clears up.
Avatar m tn I'm not a vet, but my cats and dogs have both been on amoxicillin as well as clavamox (which contains amoxicillin) at various times for various systemic infections, HOWEVER, it sounds like your cat has conjunctivitis and probably needs an antibacterial eye ointment. If it has an abscess, then an oral antibiotic (amoxicillin is probably not strong enough though) will help, but oral antibiotics won't cure conjunctivitis.
Avatar m tn 5 mg per cat twice per day. Amoxicillin is a form of penicillin. A 20 pound cat is really equivalent to two average sized cats so I think that you could safely increase the dose to 75mg twice daily. 50mg of penicillin twice daily is under dosing for any cat. Please try and actually weigh him to be sure or his most recent weight since he may have lost weight since the incident. He probably has not defecated as yet since he is not consuming much food.
Avatar m tn A cat I am feeding was attacked by a big dog. He has 1 small puncture wound on front shoulder and many scrapes. This is a 20lb outdoor cat who put up a good fight and avoided getting killed somehow. The cat has been resting for 24 hours now. I cleaned all wounds and the many scrapes with peroxide, betadine and neosporin. I am giving him 50mg of Penicillin twice a day. Today he accepted very little food and water. His 3rd eyelids are not up and his eyes look clear.
Avatar f tn Please, don't take it upon yourself to give your cat amoxicillin. Take your cat to the vet. You could do your cat serious harm and possibly kill him if you get this wrong.
Avatar f tn My headache medication, Imitrex (100mg dosage) and Cyclobenzaprine (10mg dosage) has not been successful in completely relieving the pain, and I am having problems sleeping because being horizontal seems to make the neck pain worse. The Urgent Treatment Center physician I saw last Saturday prescribed amoxicillin, which I am currently taking, in case I had a sinus infection.
Avatar f tn The 2 brothers came to blows about 4 days back and now 1 has an abscess by his ear on the top of his head. I've been able to clean it with some Chlorhexidine scrub and warm water a couple times since finding the abscess yesterday. This evening while cleaning it I started getting a lot of nasties out of it. I was as gentle as I could be while putting a little pressure and getting it to where it was clean blood coming up a bit instead of the puss, and cloudy blood it was.
Avatar m tn It may be worth mentioning that I have within the past few years had an ill-defined tooth/jaw pain issue related to a previous filling in my molar, which flares up occasionally and responds somewhat to amoxicillin (it is not an abscess, perhaps it's related to food getting trapped above my filling, or something else related to my filling). In past episodes, I had slight fever and swollen neck lymph nodes and severe jaw pain, from these flare ups.
Avatar f tn 3 months later, same tooth started hurting terribly, and felt 'hot.' Endodontist said it was infected. With the infection I also developed low fever and malaise. After amoxicillin and endo retreating tooth, it felt better and fever gone, but 2 days after ending antibiotics, infection returned with intensity, spread along jawline into nearby tooth, causing that tooth to then also need a root canal.
Avatar n tn I was able to spend the weekend with my cat with minimal symptoms. I'm the best I've been with her. When I am actually exposed to a cat, I can feel the spots in my right lung and right side of my nose where it's inflamed where the irritant hits.  However, this is not true on the left side anywhere in my body. All the symptoms I experience are on the right side of my body. I'm fully medicated for allergies, Xyzal, Singulair, Advair, NAsacort, Maxair, and I'm a neti pot master.
Avatar f tn My cat has been diagnosed with plasma cell pododermatitis by two vets. The first one wanted to put her on cortisone indefinitely, I didn't want her to have cortisone as the first option. The second recommended a 6 month course of antibiotics which helped but didn't completely get rid of the problem. After stopping the antibiotics the problem is slowly returning to it's previous state. Does anyone have information and treating this problem in cats? Anything helpful?
Avatar n tn For years, I just lived with it, but in the past six, I've gone all out to treat it. Yes, I have a cat in my life on weekends, and it's ragweed season now. However, I've been battling what I think is an infection that everyone keeps telling me is just allergy/asthma. Two years ago in August, I was sick, vomiting I was so ill. Twice, two weeks apart. From that point on fatigue never left me.
Avatar f tn Sometimes the Benadryl has calmed the hives and I've had a few days without taking Benadryl, but still some symptoms like burning skin or fuzzy face, and in any case I've mostly had to stay on high dose Benadryl. I believe this health problem began because our house got too dusty with cat dander and house dust . For about 2 years I had breathing problems, and this was a period when our house wasn't being dusted or vacuumed enough.
Avatar f tn If the drainage is due to a CSF leak, that infection then has a clear passage to the brain where it can cause an abscess or meningitis. How do I know this? Because it happened to me during September 2010. I almost died, I had to undergo extensive ear and brain surgery, and I was in hospital for two months. I am now deaf as a result and only discovered this today because yet another complication has occurred and I was doing a little research prior to visiting the doctor.

Avatar n tn It could also be a folliculitis or an abscess. An infected cyst is also a possibility. All these would give you a headache due to inflammation. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn Of course, you don’t really want to get an x-ray of your head unless you really have to, so it’s better to get a CAT scan of your sinuses, which is the more accurate way to diagnose the specific form of sinusitis that you are suffering from. Sometimes, however, you can have a sinus infection that won’t show up on a CAT scan of your sinuses.
299940 tn?1192322967 So i saw this doctor who also thought it was sinus related and put me on Lexapro for anxiety, Nasacort nasal spray and Augmentin (amoxicillin), well the augmentin caused an intestinal infection and colitis which i still have trouble with and the headache was still there.
Avatar n tn they took a culture it came back normal they gave me a cat scan that was normal they drew blood everything was normal they made me think it was just all in my head. if everything is normal why do i have all these symtoms? It just started like i said 3 days ago out of the blue..as soon as i go to the bathroom i get relief for about 2 or 3 minutes then it starts to build up again i haven't been sleeping it wakes me up every half hour to an hour.
Avatar f tn I also had dental surgery, last Thursday, so am on Amoxicillin for that as well as a little Vicodin at night. They had to remove a very decayed tooth and begin prep for bridge. Yes, I have also been blessed (lol) with periodontal disease so have had several surgeries with that. The thing that bugs me is I am over 5 months out from my surgery and while I feel better than I did at 2 weeks, like you, I guess I expected to be 100 percent by now.
