He has done quite well with Allegra for seasonal allergies, and even better with Zyrtec. Zyrtec is OTC but allegra is not. Both are well tolerated with Risperdal. Benaadryl is not good with Risperdal. My son, age 17, is zonked out when he takes both. He basically is out like a light and doesn't wake up in the morning (until about 12 hours later) the few times he has taken it. Not good at all. Claritin does not work for him either, nor anyone in my family.

Looked at the drug interactions monograph, thought it was a reaction to the generic Zyrtec and called my doc. He told me to stop taking the zyrtec and ordered liver function tests. Well, tests came back with high enzymes and bilirubin and he told me to stop taking ALL medications. Ordered an ultrasound which he said was negative, and ordered the blood work again. He seems to think it's liver damage due to drug toxicity.

Hello, for about three years I have been experiancing the need to constantly clear my throat.This happens more days than not. My PCP presribes antibotics, my allergist prescibes, zyrtec and nasonex, my gastroenterlogists prescribes dexilant. Last week my ENT scoped my throat and nose and stated he could not find any problem, but suggested it could be non-acidic reflux. Last year I had the stomach endoscope and the gastroenterlogist said he did not find anything to cause these symptoms.

I got the ok on zyrtec during pregnancy from my allergist, OB, and pharmacist. I am positive that zyrtec is ok.

I was told to take zyrtec. Now I have a rash on my upper thighs. Is it the generic zyrtec? Would the regular Zyrtec do the same? Have you ever heard of Diamox being prescribed for Meneire's disease? Also, I was on zyrtec and amphetamine salts then, the latter causing some sleepless nights and poor nutrition. I read those things can be immunosuppressive, and apparently the amphetamine salts are similar to what drug addicts use that is said to be the cause of "trashed immune systems." i started taking zyrtec about 6 months ago for post nasal drip and watery eyes. i took it almost every day and felt much better. i figured i would stop and see if my allergies were better. bad idea. after 48 hour without zyrtec i start to itch everywhere. it starts between my fingers and wrists and feet and ankles and ends up everywhere. i take a pill and it goes away. i have tried to stop many times but the itching is just too bad.

I was also advised to take Zyrtec and wondered if Zyrtec had any more benefit for skin reactions thank Claritin. Claritin didn't help at all. Two dermatologists suggested Zyrtec over Claritin . Both Allegra and Zyrtec are 24 hour medications in my area. I have known several people who took 3 Zyrtec in one day, and my allergist says that you can't really OD on antihistimines. You should be sure to drink PLENTY of water and watch for signs of constipation and dehydration. You should make sure that your dr is well aware of how much of these meds you are taking to make sure that they are ok with any other medications you maybe taking.

Has anyone experienced severe itching problems when they stop taking Zyrtec?
