I was prescribed zovirax acyclovir ointment 5% for a subsequent o/b.On the pamphlet it says it is for initial o/b's in immunocompetent persons as myself.But the pharmacist says it is doesn't matter and that the ointment is better than the cream because it adheres better.Which one is better for subsequent genital herpes o/b......acyclovir cream or ointment?What is the difference between the cream and the ointment?Thanks.
Problem is i started getting patches of raised bumps , like pimples and they itch , never had this before now .. I read you should not use zovirax ointment on the inside vaginal are , what do I do , My Doctor evidently does not give directions well or is this not the case, iam scared been withmy husband 16yrs and never had any problems and all of a sudden I have raised bumps all over ... She gave me valtrex and I had a svere allergic reaction to it. Migrains , skin rash and sore throat.
Besides the zovirax ointment, which is difficult to administer since his lips are so sore, are their oral meds vs. topical that would be effective and safe? My pediatrician says he's too young for suppression therapy, but I've read other places that it's available for children under 12. Very frustrated, and just want to give my son some relief.

these aren't herpes symptoms. Your description of them doesn't even begin to match up with herpes. Your doctor erred in prescribing you zovirax ointment which isn't effective for genital herpes lesions anyways. You should think them for wasting your time and hard earned money.
Since these aren't changing at all even after the application of a topical steroid, odds are they are normal bumps. Our genital skin is very tender and it certainly is never completely smooth.
At this point it's too late to culture it and get more accurate answers. Should it ever reoccur - make them culture it for herpes within 24-48 hours of its appearance.
Oral antibiotics and topical antibiotics and steroids are not used to treat herpes ( well sometimes steroids but not usually ). If it was really acyclovir and zovirax ointment then they aren't antibiotics but antivirals. Not sure what all they prescribed for your hubby.

I have had oral herpes in that area for 20 years and have treated it with zovirax, and in sometimes in recent years, abreva. I went to a derm and he thought it was chelitis that was drying out my lips and causing hypopigmentation. He wasn't completely confident and told me that. I didn't think my lips were very dry at the time, so this was a surprise. He prescribed Aclovate ointment, and I followed his directions.

i was prescribed corticosteroids and some anti allergics for urticaria and a skin ointment containing clotrimazole and beclomethasone dipropionate (an anti bacterial, anti-fungal cream). In the mean time my doctor prescribed acyclovir 800mg to be take one table 5 times a day. I also got zovirax ointment to put on the mouth ulcer 3 times a day and this stuff is really bitter. In addition, before I saw my general physician, I was given nystatin oral suspension by an ER doctor and he told to me to use it 4 times a day for 7 days. I did, but the thrush is still there. I been told that oral thrush on the tongue causes bad breath, but to be honest with you I do not have bad breath.
I just wanted to know what are the symptoms of herpes if it occurs inside urethra of men or does it occur inside urethra, as i have been through chamdlya test which came out negative a urine culture which also came normal and a urethra swab for culture test which also came negative then the urologist treated me with rociphin 2g iv for 7 days but then after 7 months suddenly on my penis herpes simplex has occured which is now been treated with zovirax 10g ointment and famvir 250mg oral tablets.
I can't beleive a doc said to ride it out. They hurt bad and zovirax is just an ointment.
zovirax ointment isn't really helpful for genital herpes at all. I sure hope you didn't fill that prescription!
A few weeks later, I got a couple cold sores on the margins of my lips. I used Zovirax ointment and Zovirax Tab 400 mg 5x/day for a week and they resolved. These cold sores do recur every few weeks, and I use Zovirax ointment for them when they do.
I am scared to death. I am too scared to go and get tested. Please tell me what to do. Can these manifestations be attributed only to Herpes? Could it be ARS?
What type of antibiotic is it? If it is an ointment, these are like Vaseline types, then it will make your hair greasy.
Once the cut is completely healed over, you will be able to use your normal shampoo that will get rid of the greasiness.
do you mean zovirax cream? I couldn't find a match for zovicar cream to comment on it. zovirax ointment doesn't really do squat for genital herpes so if it burns, don't bother using it.
If you are expecting the lesions to crust over like a skinned knee, it's not going to happen ( I know, hard not to think that when they talk about the lesions crusting but crusting refers to the stages of healing more so than the appearance of things as they heal ).

I have a specific question concerning HSV-1. For the past 4 years I have suffered from oral herpes. When the symptoms first appeared I thought they were just pimples on my lip. They are usually small and never turn into "traditional" cold sores. I use Zovirax ointment and a high lysine diet to treat them and with time the outbreaks have become less severe and less frequent.
