Avatar f tn I have been seeing a regular neurologist to see if she can treat my migraines and am currently on 150 mg. of Zonisamide every night to try to help that, but I am also working with Dr. Gardner at UPMC, who is a Chiari specialist. He believes it is best to eliminate all other possibilities before actually resorting to surgery to treat the Chiari, which I respect. I go back for a 6 month follow-up MRI and consult with Dr. Gardner next week.
15422595 tn?1440452745 She was initially put on Zonisamide but after 2 weeks, she had a couple more seizures. At that point the docs added Phenobarbital. We've had her blood tested and the PB is at the proper levels in her system. The good news is she's not had any seizures since then... the not so good news is that she's still not adapted well to the meds after 7 weeks.
Avatar f tn Hi There. I know what you are going through. My dog (12 year old Beagle) started having seizures in Jun 2014. My dog went through about the same thing your dog is going through. Apparently, my dog is very sensitive to PB. Have tried several dosages on her & she does ok with a very, very low dose but the seizures come back in 2-3 wks. Right now she is taking 1/2 tab in a.m., 1/2 tab in p.m and every other evening she takes 1 full tab (this is 16.2 mg).
Avatar n tn I have a 1 year 4 month old German Shepherd named Melo who's been having seizures since he was 1. I just wanted to share my experience because I know its comforting to hear stories of other people that are going through what you're going through, makes you feel less hopeless. Melo had 4 seizures in the span of 2 hours, he's taking 300mg of Zonisamide every 12 hours but before take refill arrived he had ran out and that's when the seizures happened.
Avatar m tn t find a workable dosage of phenobartibal, you might want to ask your vet about either Dilantin, Valium, potassium bromide, felbamate, or a different type of anti-seizure medicine that can be used in conjunction with potassium bromide and/or phenobarbital together called Zonisamide. Zonisamide is totally unrelated to any of the other anticonvulsants, but, like Keppra, the full extent of its side effects is not yet known so to some vets, it is somewhat controversial to prescribe it.
979826 tn?1389036358 has anyone heard of Zonisamide? i will go on this drug once i come off topamax I've been on topamax forever!
Avatar m tn The vet did bloodwork and put her on zonisamide 100mg twice a day. She continued having them so vet doubled her dosage to 200 mg twice daily. She continued having them but they were much shorter in duration. So the vet added phenobarbital 1g twice daily in addition to her zonisamide 200mg twice daily. My question is about the side effects. It has been a week since the pheno was added and she is still very clumsy and can't even walk up stairs.
1577473 tn?1296177286 in my area to be seen by a neurologist. I saw the doctor for the first appt and she put me on Zonisamide as a migraine preventative and Maxalt-MLT 10 mg as a rescue medication as well as ordering some labs, an MRI and an MRA. All tests came back normal. The Maxalt worked well when I got the migraines but insurance wasn't too happy with it so we had to switch. She then put me on Relpax which didn't work at all.
1402028 tn?1280858335 s have been performed. The seizure medication I was on was called Zonisamide...and it made all of my symptoms worse. I was taken off of that and put on Amitripylene, which I am currently on. It doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot but the doctor wants me to try it for 3 months and I am on month 2. My sleep pattern is messed up badly now as well; I don't know if it is from the medicines, or just lack of exercise since I'm stuck indoors so much now. Thank you for the help.

Avatar f tn Most referral or veterinary teaching hospitals , or veterinary schools have veterinary opthalmolgists. Ask your vet for a referral to one in your area. Don't be afraid, just explain to him that you do not want to happen with your other pug to happen to her. If are still uncomfortable with this you can search your self online at: American College of Veterinary Opthalmologists, or the American Society of Veterinary Opthalmologists (http://www.asvo.org/). Good Luck!
Avatar m tn i want to apply for NATIONAL VETERINARY EXAM so plz help me wt kind books i will need to prepare................. plzzzzzzzzzzzzzz helpppppppppppp meeeeeeeeeeeeee.
Avatar n tn It has been shown that veterinary acupuncture in conjunction with anti-inflammatories (steroids) and analgesics (tramadol and others) is highly effective and may be more helpful than anti-inflammatories and analgesics alone. If surgery is not recommended, or if you choose not to have surgery performed, than acupuncture is worth a try.
Avatar f tn ve had several medications from Topomax to Lyrica with no relief and am currently taking Zonisamide daily (9 weeks) with Naproxin and Imatrex as needed. I graph my headaches daily and average a 5 on a 0 - 10 scale, no changes noted with Zonisamide treatment. No days are 0. I avoid taking any OTC medications and use the Naproxin and Imatrex very sparingly. An MRI a year ago showed bulging but it was discounted as unimportant by my neurologist.

Avatar f tn The reason may be infection, or something more serious, and veterinary exam is needed to see what the swellings are. An allergic reaction is unlikely, since allergic reactions usually cause a swollen face/muzzle or hives. As long as he is eating, drinking and breathing normally, then it can probably wait until Monday, when your regular veterinarian is open. You can also look online for low cost veterinary clinics in your area.
Avatar f tn nothing much is being said in forums dedicated to veterinarians at this time. Also, I have personally contacted a toxicologist, a veterinary internist, a veterinary oncologist and a veterinary nutritionist and none of them have given me any evidence that this should be a concern. The best source of information about your pet's nutrition and its affect on the pet is your veterinarian.
Avatar f tn Dogs with fleas or allergies commonly scratch and traumatize themselves, creating a secondary bacterial skin infection/rash that makes the itch worse, and this is something that needs veterinary care. If skin infection is present, it is treated with antibiotics for 3-4 weeks and mild antibacterial shampoos.
Avatar f tn I also have Asthma and Epilepsy to which I take Lamictal, Zonisamide, Albuterol(when needed-which is quite rare), Claritan, and Singular. Now on another site I spotted an area that stated certain OTC meds can cause problems with Gerd. My question is I also Take Vitam that of Multi Vitamins, Omega 3-6-9, B-12, Deodorized Garlic, Ginger(which isn't too often though I did purchase a bottle to begin in the near future on a daily basis), and Ginseng.
Avatar m tn 3X DAY, 13) VIMPAT 100MG. 2X DAY, 14) ZONISAMIDE 100MG. 3BEDTIME, 15) LANSOPRAZOLE 30MG. 2X DAY, 16) SUCRALFATE 1GM. 3X DAY, 17) COLESTIPOL 1GM. 3X DAY. I'VE TRIED VIAGRA BEFORE WITH NO RESULTS. I WAS ON WELLBUTRIN BEFORE ZIPRASIDONE. AT THAT TIME WHEN I HAD AN ORGASM I DIDN'T EJACTULATE ALTHOUGH NOW WHEN I AM ABLE TO ACHIEVE ORGASM I'VE GOT LITTLE EJACTULATION AT TIMES. I'VE GOT AN APPOINTMENT ON 4/30/14 WITH MY UROLOGIST AND I PLAN TO DISCUSS THIS WITH HIM THEN.
Avatar n tn Whether he has bloat or the other problem that I suspect, which is disk disease (spinal disease) he would require veterinary attention since they are both very serious and may require medications or other therapies, such as surgery. I don't know where you are writing from but in the States you could apply at most veterinary offices or online for a Care Credit Card. which is a low to no interest credit card that can only be used for medical, dental, or veterinary bills.
Avatar n tn the doctor gave u very good advice..u must seek veterinary care for ur pet......if ppl cannot afford medical care for their animals when they get them then perhaps they should not get the animal.Pet peeve of mine-my animal is sick and i can't afford to treat it!grrrr.!
