Avatar f tn My new doctor thinks I've been misdiagnosed for depression/anxiety. He says this based on everything I described to him and because general SSRI's just cause me more problems than good (high anxiety and side effects). He says I'm not BiPolar, but that I have a mood disorder, on the BiPolar Spectrum... maybe unipolar. He says he does not know exactly what kind of mood disorder yet, just that I have one. So he's trying me out on Lamictal.
Avatar f tn There is a depression forum. You sound as if you're truly bipolar, as opposed to one of the new-fangled and phony bipolar characterizations, such as bipolar 2 and the like. If you're truly bipolar, there is no cure we know of. There are psychiatrists who treat the whole person and will check for other possible problems, such as hormonal problems and sugar imbalances, but they tend to be expensive and not affiliated with insurance companies. Some call themselves functional physicians.
Avatar f tn He was lovely, he spoke to me and diagnosed me with Bipolar disorder and referred me to the recovery team, he gave me blood forms and ecg forms before any mood stabilisers were given.
Avatar f tn Anxiety can be a symptom of bipolar disorder. This was recognized by the fellow who originally described bipolar disorder as such, Dr. Emil Kraepelin, back in 1921. He described "anxious mania", and also "excited depression", which included a "great restlessness". He specifically named anxiety as one of the components of this illness. All that requires saying, because "anxiety" is not generally regarded as a bipolar symptom.
Avatar f tn Can someone with bipolar disorder/schiophenia ever live a normal life? My brother tried to end his life and his family say they are never taking in home again. Will be ever get better and did it happen because he went off his medicine.
1055770 tn?1254235776 From what I understand Bipolar Disorder's mood swings and phases can cause things like this such as when you're manic and angry you might be impulsive and act on your anger in ways without even thinking about it. As for predicting things, I don't know maybe you're just getting lucky or the spirit of Nostradamus is possessing you or something.

Avatar f tn He has been diagnosed with clinical depression years ago, and just recently was given a medicine that treats the symptoms of bipolar disorder. he said the side effects were not good and he quit taking the medication. Two days ago he got angry over something trivial and again today slamming doors and yelling at me and our kids.
Avatar f tn So I found out about 2 years ago that I suffer from bipolar disorder. I suffer as a rapid cycler and it is one of the hardest things to control. Has anyone out there found meds that actually work? I was on lithium but the med its self scares me that I will not take it. So if anyone has suggestions please help.
Avatar f tn People with bipolar disorder type I have had at least one manic episode and periods of major depression. In the past, bipolar disorder type I was called manic depression. People with bipolar disorder type II have never had full mania. Instead they experience periods of high energy levels and impulsiveness that are not as extreme as mania (called hypomania). These periods alternate with episodes of depression.
Avatar f tn Is there such thing if the person is not on meds? Can a bipolar disorder be less extreme than it is known to be.
1192491 tn?1265031829 That makes perfect sense. Thank you. fallenleaf, I have been through therapy in the past and have changed my ways of looking at things as I have aged; even have chg.'d my priorities in life...I think putting some years behind me has helped. I am on medication for Bipolar and there is no way I would ever get off them...been on medicaton since 1985; will have to be on it reast of my life, more than likely.
1351968 tn?1278205300 No bipolar disorder will not turn into schizophrenia if not treated, the two are totally different illnesses. However, the two can sometimes be mixed up when a doctor is initially trying to diagnose someone. Bipolar disorder is an illness where the chemical inbalance in someone's brain causes their moods to be more extreme than those without the disorder. It also causes the moods to shift between the extremes (that's the difference between bipolar disorder and unipolar depression).
402739 tn?1203538358 hi there, i was diagnosed with bipolar disorder the other day, however my mom keeps raising questions as to how my doc could have diagnosed me within the course of an hour. i checked up on my doctor's creds and he seems clean and good, he was very professional during our visit. i don't want to upset my mom by telling her some of the more grisly details of what's been going on with me (which my boyfriend knows and attests to), but i'm tired of hearing her doubts.
432009 tn?1304749841 Are any of you wondering if you have been misdiagnosed for bipolar disorder? Have you experienced only 1 episode of mania after taking an antidepressant? Do you read the bipolar questionnaires and feel that you do not quite fit the criteria? 6726276 tn?1421126668 Full Spectrum Disorder. I like the implications of the way this sounds. That's how I'm considering Bipolar disorder these days. Don't you think the way we quantify things give us a better outlook? Now, if there were a better word than "Disorder".
Avatar f tn What are the chances of fraternal twin sisters both being diagnosed with Conversion Disorder? I was diagnosed as Bipolar and having Conversion Disorder. It started with hand tremors then stuttering to the point of not being understood. I also have Celiac Disease. My sister has Celiac also but no mental health issues. She started having Partial Complex Seizures. With Celiac you can develop speach problems, tremors, and seizures. I find it hard to believe that both of us would have it.
