Avatar n tn I was worried because he usually bounced back right away from his seizures. I called the vet and they said it was side effects from the seizure and pb, they said he would be back to normal in 2-7 days. I was really skeptical because he was acting so strange but I was still patient with him. Next day he would not stop whining and pacing the house. Second day he woke up much better he remembered a few more stuff but not completely back to normal about 70%.
Avatar m tn Zonisamide is totally unrelated to any of the other anticonvulsants, but, like Keppra, the full extent of its side effects is not yet known so to some vets, it is somewhat controversial to prescribe it. Dilantin, Valium, potassium bromide and felbamate, along with phenobarbital, are all tried and true when it comes to treating idiopathic epilepsy.
Avatar f tn Even safe drugs can have potential side effects. You must weigh these side effects against the benefit of controlling seizures. In short, this is a common practice to combine all of these drugs and they are not "unsafe" combinations in theory. Hope this helps!
Avatar f tn My rescue terrier of 9 years of age is totally deaf. He also suffers with seizures. Initially, the vet provided zonisamide 50 mg. He was a severely abused little fella and trusted no one and was always on the offensive. Although the medication caused the seizures to stop he became more aggressive and paranoid. He is currently taking 150 mg x2 daily of gabapentin. Aggression has completely ceased. Time has been on our side and he has become a very loving demonstrative guy.
15422595 tn?1440452745 She was initially put on Zonisamide but after 2 weeks, she had a couple more seizures. At that point the docs added Phenobarbital. We've had her blood tested and the PB is at the proper levels in her system. The good news is she's not had any seizures since then... the not so good news is that she's still not adapted well to the meds after 7 weeks.
Avatar f tn My little Boston started having seizures a year ago August. 1 each month for 3 months then 4 in one day. Started 16.2 mg PB twice daily. October 4 she had a seizure an hour before she was to have her normal dosage. The October 12 she had one while we were gone. She was pacing, running her head along walls, circling my legs. Took her to the vet the doubled her meds. She is basically a zombie, did double for 3 days called again backed down to 1 1/2 pills thinking it was too much.

20840438 tn?1530997576 I have a German Shepherd that suffers from seizures, he has idiopathic epilepsy. He takes 300g of Zonisamide twice a day, personally phenobarbital causes those side effects as well to my dog. He forgot his name, forgot house manners like not eating from the trash, he didn't recognize my parents and he also hated to be petted. As soon as the phenobarbital was out of his system (which took him about 3 days) he went completely back to normal.
Avatar f tn Hi I really feel sorry for your daughter. How does she survive with all that medication coursing through her body? I got my keppra dose up to 2000mg a day and I couldn't handle the side effects. With the valproic acid, I was taking 1400mg a day before it became toxic for my body. Side effects of anti-epileptics really are not cool. Anyways, to answer your question. I'm no doctor, this is all just info that I've come across in my search for answers.
979826 tn?1389036358 has anyone heard of Zonisamide? i will go on this drug once i come off topamax I've been on topamax forever!
Avatar f tn 5 months now and thank goodness her seizures have stopped. She was having grand mal seizures every other day after some time...they just kept getting closer together. I do see that she is more hungry than normal but one thing that is differant from what I am seeing in the other posts is that she is actually getting up earlier and earlier every morning? I am trying to put her to bed later but when she normally would get up at 6:30, became 6:00 and now 5:00 am.
Avatar m tn We have an 11 yr old lab and he has had 3 seizures since March and the vet put him on this med. The side effects are terrible. I just finished cleaning up 4 huge piles of diarrhea on the carpet. He has little control over his hind legs, is extremely irritable, not acting as himself. He has only been on it for 3 days, and its 3 days too long. I plan on calling the vet this morning and taking him off.
Avatar n tn As with all medications, you may experience side effects when you take WELLBUTRIN XL. Side effects may be more common shortly after you start treatment. The most common side effects with WELLBUTRIN XL are weight loss, loss of appetite, dry mouth, skin rash, sweating, ringing in the ears, shakiness, stomach pain, agitation, anxiety, dizziness, trouble sleeping, muscle pain, nausea, fast heartbeat, sore throat, and urinating more often.
Avatar m tn After 1 week on this dosage, we called the vet as side effects were really awful. He suggested that we half the dose which we did do. He seems a bit better, but is still very disoriented and is urinating in the house. He also seems to be bumping into things and reading other posts, some owners have mentioned blindness. Is this a side effect of pb, and if so will it go away?another concern is our vet is waiting one month before doing blood work. Should we have this done sooner?
479255 tn?1208116148 I have been on Keppra and Lamectal for the past 2 years.. no side effects and it is controlling my complex partial seizures.
Avatar n tn She is not on permenant medicine yet, they want to wait until she is at least 6 months old,but when she has seziures we have to give her medicine to treat her and the same thing happens to her, her head bobs the whole next day. The vet told us that it is the side effects of the medicine. Let me know if you find anything else out. I will be praying for your dog.

Avatar n tn Some of the side effects reported vary due to different breeds & several other factors. We have 1 Rottweiler mix male & 2 rescued dogs (German Rottweiler female & American Rottweiler female). German Rotty was approx 2 y/o when rescued. She had her first seizure approx 2 months ago. Scared me to death. A month later she had another so I knew some of the signs before hand. My mixed male & American Rotty female were going crazy when the seizures occurred.
Avatar m tn He had a third seizure there and the vet diagnosed epilepsy. He is on phenobarbitol and had no side effects until last night when he vomited and started head twitching. He is drooling a lot and a bit wobbly. Is this typical? Will it stop ?
Avatar m tn OUR 2 YR OLD MIN SCHNAUZER HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH FOCAL SEIZURES. SHE WILL BE PLAYING OR JUST BE SITTING AROUND AND WILL STOP AND BEGIN BOBBING HER HEAD UP AND DOWN THEN PAW AT HER EYES. THIS LAST FOR ABOUT 15 SECONDS BUT SHE WILL DO IT QUIET OFTEN. WE HAVE HAD HER TO SEVERAL VETS, LAST TIME WAS AT UNIVERSITY OF TENN VET HOSPITAL WHERE SHE WAS DIAGNOSED. SHE WAS PUT ON ZONISAMIDE 50MG TWICE A DAY. SHE HAS BEEN ON THIS FOR A WEEK AND A HALF AND WE CAN TELL NO DIFFERENCE IN THE HEAD BOBBIN.
Avatar f tn I have a 1 1/2 year old, male English Bulldog. He's has had cluster seizures since this past March- once a month until August when they worsened. He was taken to the emergency room and treated. He was then diagnosed with epilepsy after a full eval, seeing videos and MRI. He's been on 1 1/2 grain on Pheno in the AM and PM but he continues to have cluster seizures once a month. His latest blood test was 26 for pheno.
2030686 tn?1351688548 Chills, body aches, fever or flu like symptoms are all normal side effects of interferon. High doses of vicodin means you're getting a high dose of acetaminophen which can be very liver unfriendly. Those with hepc should not exceed 2000 mg of acetaminophen daily. If you must use pain management drugs for an existing condition perhaps you should talk to your doctor about prescribing something without acetaminophen such as a low dose oxycodone or Tramadol.
Avatar f tn She is very unsteady on her feet which seems to come and go. How long before these side effects will go away?
Avatar m tn Hi i am trying to find out if any1 else who takes effexor has had as many side effects as i have, which is basically them all including seizures and blackouts? Has anyone else experienced as many side effects and do you think its worth all the side effects to be be ?( stable for now neway) .The doctors seem to think its worth it but then they dont have a load of side effects to deal with.
Avatar f tn He is now back on dilantin and has been seizure free with the side effects that a lot of people mention (slightly disoriented at times, light headed etc) However he has had a cough at night since then and it can be quite bad. He isn't able to get a good nights sleep (nor am I) since then. His chest Xray was fine. Has anyone else had a problem with this?
