Common Questions and Answers about Zonisamide monotherapy

Avatar f tn I have been seeing a regular neurologist to see if she can treat my migraines and am currently on 150 mg. of Zonisamide every night to try to help that, but I am also working with Dr. Gardner at UPMC, who is a Chiari specialist. He believes it is best to eliminate all other possibilities before actually resorting to surgery to treat the Chiari, which I respect. I go back for a 6 month follow-up MRI and consult with Dr. Gardner next week.
15422595 tn?1440452745 She was initially put on Zonisamide but after 2 weeks, she had a couple more seizures. At that point the docs added Phenobarbital. We've had her blood tested and the PB is at the proper levels in her system. The good news is she's not had any seizures since then... the not so good news is that she's still not adapted well to the meds after 7 weeks.
Avatar f tn Hi There. I know what you are going through. My dog (12 year old Beagle) started having seizures in Jun 2014. My dog went through about the same thing your dog is going through. Apparently, my dog is very sensitive to PB. Have tried several dosages on her & she does ok with a very, very low dose but the seizures come back in 2-3 wks. Right now she is taking 1/2 tab in a.m., 1/2 tab in p.m and every other evening she takes 1 full tab (this is 16.2 mg).
Avatar n tn I have a 1 year 4 month old German Shepherd named Melo who's been having seizures since he was 1. I just wanted to share my experience because I know its comforting to hear stories of other people that are going through what you're going through, makes you feel less hopeless. Melo had 4 seizures in the span of 2 hours, he's taking 300mg of Zonisamide every 12 hours but before take refill arrived he had ran out and that's when the seizures happened.
Avatar m tn t find a workable dosage of phenobartibal, you might want to ask your vet about either Dilantin, Valium, potassium bromide, felbamate, or a different type of anti-seizure medicine that can be used in conjunction with potassium bromide and/or phenobarbital together called Zonisamide. Zonisamide is totally unrelated to any of the other anticonvulsants, but, like Keppra, the full extent of its side effects is not yet known so to some vets, it is somewhat controversial to prescribe it.
979826 tn?1389036358 has anyone heard of Zonisamide? i will go on this drug once i come off topamax I've been on topamax forever!
Avatar m tn The vet did bloodwork and put her on zonisamide 100mg twice a day. She continued having them so vet doubled her dosage to 200 mg twice daily. She continued having them but they were much shorter in duration. So the vet added phenobarbital 1g twice daily in addition to her zonisamide 200mg twice daily. My question is about the side effects. It has been a week since the pheno was added and she is still very clumsy and can't even walk up stairs.
1577473 tn?1296177286 in my area to be seen by a neurologist. I saw the doctor for the first appt and she put me on Zonisamide as a migraine preventative and Maxalt-MLT 10 mg as a rescue medication as well as ordering some labs, an MRI and an MRA. All tests came back normal. The Maxalt worked well when I got the migraines but insurance wasn't too happy with it so we had to switch. She then put me on Relpax which didn't work at all.
1402028 tn?1280858335 s have been performed. The seizure medication I was on was called Zonisamide...and it made all of my symptoms worse. I was taken off of that and put on Amitripylene, which I am currently on. It doesn't seem to be doing a whole lot but the doctor wants me to try it for 3 months and I am on month 2. My sleep pattern is messed up badly now as well; I don't know if it is from the medicines, or just lack of exercise since I'm stuck indoors so much now. Thank you for the help.
250084 tn?1303307435 I am curious on this, reading other's tx's here. We know that a non reponder with Peg, Riba must extend, harder to achieve SVR, etc. but when one is noted as a non responder with monotherapy, is it, should it really be considered non responder? Being it's a different tx, and was usually not very successful. Not too sure I'd do 72 weeks due to that. Would the possibility of built resistance to interferon apply here?

3248373 tn?1346981993 try zonisamide slowly go up to 300 mg have your doctor try you on that it worked for mine, Topomax just made me anger and paranode
Avatar f tn Willy: Well, first let me say that I am mighty surprised and disappointed. I had expected that the same response dynamic would simply continue evenly across all genotypes. --------------------------------- Why disappointed? Seems geno 2's fare better with Telaprevir than geno 1's and may be able to treat with monotherapy. As to geno 3's, it looks like only monotherapy didnt do well but maybe Im reading this study wrong.
Avatar f tn ve had several medications from Topomax to Lyrica with no relief and am currently taking Zonisamide daily (9 weeks) with Naproxin and Imatrex as needed. I graph my headaches daily and average a 5 on a 0 - 10 scale, no changes noted with Zonisamide treatment. No days are 0. I avoid taking any OTC medications and use the Naproxin and Imatrex very sparingly. An MRI a year ago showed bulging but it was discounted as unimportant by my neurologist.

Avatar m tn SB 9200 is the Company’s novel small molecule nucleic acid hybrid (SMNH) compound being developed as both monotherapy and combination therapy for the treatment of Hepatitis B (HBV) and other viral diseases. The first portion of the ACHIEVE trial is a Phase 2a placebo-controlled, sequential-cohort, double-blind trial to evaluate increasing doses of SB 9200 as monotherapy for 12 weeks followed by tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (marketed by Gilead Sciences, Inc.
Avatar f tn I have to ask: Was this your doctor's decision to treat you with monotherapy for this long ? Or did you push for it ? The reason I ask is I can't imagine what kind of logic the doctor employed to reach this decision to continue monotherapy for this length of time. I'm not ruling out an explanation that I haven't considered---there could be one in which case I'd really like to know what it was.
Avatar m tn A phase II, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of nitazoxanide treatment for 24 weeks in 50 patients with chronic HCV-4 hepatitis was performed to evaluate the safety of prolonged administration and to determine the antiviral efficacy of nitazoxanide monotherapy (46).
Avatar n tn Pegasys is not used as a monotherapy in hep C patients. If he is taking it with ribavirin that would be for hepatitis C. People with pregnant partners should not use ribavirin during their partners pregnancy. Interferon alone is sometimes used for hairy cell leukemia, kidney cancer and melanoma. It is not used for liver damage as a monotherapy since it was proven that it does not help the liver recover from damage due to any reason.
