I saw a neurologist and am on amitriptyline and zolmitriptan. It has reduced my headaches from everyday to four times a week and my migraines from twice a week to once a month. i found that also pushing myself through physical exercise helps too. I still cannot attend school though and am homeschooled as a result. My condition limits my ability to perform in sports and my day to day life.

After a couple years they switched the medicine to “Maxalt.” I am now 22 years old and was prescribed “Zolmig/Zolmitriptan” about a year ago. The doctor believed the dissolvable dose would be able to work faster and be more beneficial. I began getting migraines about two-four times a month and the Zomig was helpful. However about two months ago my migraines increased to two-four times a week! Symptoms are: -Left sided pain behind and to the left of my eye.

If I am not mistaken some of your symptoms are from the tubes and the drainage. The tubes can interfere with the nerves that are associated with your tongue and the drainage could be causing the metallic taste in your mouth. There is a new drug on the market for migranes I just read about it in readers digest. It does not constrict the vessels like the older ones and therefore gives relief to those who did not get relief from the older triptians.

The drug of choice however are triptans such as Sumatriptan (Imitrex), rizatriptan (Maxalt), naratriptan (Amerge), zolmitriptan (Zomig), almotriptan (Axert), frovatriptan (Frova) and eletriptan (Relpax). Hormone therapy may help some women whose migraines seem to be linked to their menstrual cycle. Other alternatives include stress management strategies, such as exercise, relaxation, and biofeedback may also reduce the occurrence and severity of migraine attacks.

Other combinations of pain killers with anti sickness medicines like domperidone and metoclopramide. The prescription medicines like triptans, rizatriptan and zolmitriptan come in various forms like nasal sprays, injections and tablets that dissolve on the tongue and can be used for you since nausea and vomiting is an issue. Prophylactic medicines like propranolol, pizotifen and valproate can be tried.
