Stephanie Dillon, who has injected Christian themes into her studio in Louisville, said yoga brought her closer to her Christian faith, which had faded after college and service in the Army.
"What I found is that it opened my spirit, it renewed my spirituality," Dillon said. "That happened first and then I went back to church." Dillon attends Southeast Christian Church in Louisville and says many evangelical Christians from the church attend her yoga classes.
I actually did yoga at home before pregnancy (waaaay before, but not within the last year). And I had taken a couple classes at an athletic facility before. This class was so much different. Things are not just modified, the whole process pertains to the pregnant woman and her needs. For instance, we're not supposed to do abdominal twists in the second trimester... or lay on our backs at 20 weeks. She tailored it to our pregnancy weeks.
I do some yoga. I tend not to do an entire program but I do use some poses and occasionally pop on my prenatal yoga CD for a bit. I enjoy cat/cow and tree pose and downward facing dog and child's pose a lot. Hip rolls and torso twists. Also do some modified planks now. I really fell off of my exercise regimen after getting pregnant but I do try to at least stretch every day, do a touch of yoga, and do some leg and arm lifts and curls with light weights.
I can see wanting to restart, my husband loves his yoga class and goes 5 or 6 days a week. I know you've talked about doing yoga at home, for me it has to be a class that I go to, am expected by other people to be there, and pay for, to force myself to stay disciplined with exercise. I could do Pilates at home watching the screen, but I know I wouldn't. (Even making the commitment and paying for it sometimes it hasn't worked (going to a gym and working with a trainer was a bust.
Hello, How are you, I live New Jersey where do you live?I just go to a studio that just does zumba, yoga, but it's mainly Zumba here is the place I go to just to give you an idea it's called Zen with an edge in nutley,nj check it out I do not know where you are from maybe they have something like this. I know the gym only has zumba maybe twice a week where I go it's every day I love it let me know keep in touch Deana.
i also do strength training and cardio as well as take part in yoga classes...i watch and count everything i eat and i eat around 1000 calories to 1200 calories a day and i have yet to notice a pound lost...the random inch has been lost, but if anything then im gaining weight. ive read on some websites that this could be related to stress and lack of sleep...my doctor also told me that i do not have a thyroid problem and i have increased the weight and resistance in my training...
I wanted to pass along this link to everyone. I have been practicing Bikram Yoga for 7 years and have found it's benefits to be many. So much so, that I have decided to get certified to teach and hopefully open my own studio someday. My own experience has been this: since my TT in April and RAI in May I have not gained ONE single ounce, have maintained a consistent energy level and my TSH levels always fall within normal ranges.

And if you can’t afford yoga lessons in a studio, try your local senior center–many offer free or heavily discounted classes. You could even buy or rent a yoga DVD, or borrow one from the local library.
While there’s no single answer to fibromyalgia yet, it’s becoming clear that steady movement such as yoga can play a huge role in improving the condition.
I, too, have to watch my sodium intake, due to severe edema and hypertension... I mostly eat a regular diet of fresh food, and I simply leave the salt out of most recipes. After you get used to it, you don't miss it... If I do use a dash of salt at the table, I use Himalayan sea salt, which, though it's more expensive, I've been told doesn't have as much sodium as table salt.
Good morning... how is everyone on this fine morning? We're off to a cool, but beautiful start to the day. I, and my neighbor, have been out for our morning walk. I was comfortable in a short sleeved T-shirt, with no sweating.
It's been a busy week for me, but a good one. I'm feeling a little better and actually, got some work done, both outside and inside.
I went from a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom house, to a 1-bedroom apartment, then to a studio, and now to something akin to a studio, though with 2 rooms. "Stuff" that used to be impossible to separate with has somehow fallen off along the way and I haven't missed it. But I'd say for the holidays, it's not so much about 'stuff' for me.
I am so sorry for your loss. It must be hard to grieve properly when you have stress over finaces as well. Maybe try salvation army, mission australia or a local church?
Do you prefer walking, running, biking, swimming, elliptical, pilates, yoga, floor exercises, such as crunches, sit ups, etc??? What a variety of things we have available...........what's your favorite?
While I was reading your post regarding anxiety, I remembered reading that people who practice yoga for relaxation have been able to cut their afib episodes in half. I know during the recent election debates and news, I was highly agitated but couldn't look away, and my heart rate, blood pressure and stress level were off the charts!

Unless any health care rallies come up.
ve given up my practise and plan on sticking to swimming, walking, and either prenatal yoga or some other form without the heat. I can go back to hot yoga later. I just really hope no damage was done. I'm a little frustrated that there isn't more information about it. I practised for two weeks in the beginning before I knew I was pregnant. When I found out and talked to my doctor about it, she said not to do it agian, and it was too late if the damage was done.
