Common Questions and Answers about Xyzal for hives

xyzal

Avatar f tn After 8 months of constant hives, lip swelling, eye swelling and finger swelling, i went to an allergist and got prescribed Xyzal. It worked great for the first 2 weeks and i was over joyed to have my life back! But the past few days, some hives have started to come back. I have been taking benadryl along with the xyzal as needed. I was wondering if I could take 2 xyzal a day instead o 1. The only other medication that I am on is ortho cyclin birth control.
Avatar f tn I also starting getting hives from the sun atleast 7years ago. They have gotten progressively worse. I have hypothyroidism and hashimoto's thyroiditis which is autoimmune. I was told by my endocrinologist that the hive are related to my hashimoto's. I recently went to see an allergist and she says my hives are autoimmune also. If you haven't already been teste for thyroid issues, it would be a good idea. My allergist put me on 2 xyzal twice a day, which was way to much.
Avatar f tn eventually i started bi-weekly sessions of acupuncture which really really helped and finally i was off the medication. i still take a daily xyzal otherwise the hives come back not the anaphylaxis though. it took another 2 years to lose the steroid bloat. the steroids muck up your system totally. still can't take most dairy products. most of my teeth fillings fell out and other healthy teeth started crumbling. my bones were brittle.
Avatar n tn Since July 22 of this year I have been breaking out in what was hives at first on a daily basis. Usually on my legs, and stomach. Then recently it has just been red patches that are around my nose and under my arms; with occasional patches on my arms, legs. I have been to my internist weekly since the last week of July. She sent me to a dermatologist who I have been seeing for a month now. No one can figure out what it is.
Avatar n tn Hello! For the past 4 months or so I have been getting hives on the sides of my neck. It happens almost every day or every other day. I have not changed shampoo, lotion, deodorant, laundry detergent, or anything else of that nature. I've never had allergies to mold, pollen, or any particular food in the past. It seems to have started a few months after I had some major dental work but I don't know if there's any correlation.
Avatar f tn Another Dermatologist had given zentel, Ivermectol for only one dose. and xyzal daily. Now She is not getting hives than previous days. will she get rid of hives completely?
Avatar m tn I had xyzal for 8 days and applied the lotion and the rash went away. I must tell you that at this time I was so scared and suffering from anxiety that I also started taking another anti-histamine (Atarax) and Ivemetricin as prescribed by a general physician who thought it was scabies. So for about 8 days I had both Xyzal and Atarax. However the rashes disappeared after about 2 weeks and by this time my 4th generation Elisa test at 45 and 60 days, RNA PCR at 46 days were all negative.
Avatar f tn I had hives for like 3 weeks, at first I thought it was just a normal skin allergy (because of the sudden change of weather here in our country) and when I had intake of anti-histamine and rested for a while, I suddenly woke up with clusters of wheals on my forehead and even ears and we had to go to the ER.
Avatar f tn Im really scared cause i have never in my life had hives until halloween 2008. At first i thought it was just a rash but then it started going all over my body. My ankles, knees, and elbows were really swollen. They are still kind of itchy, burn, and hurt. I went to the doctor he gave me some pills called xyzal. He told me to take one a day but i been taking them for two days and i feel a little better and some has gone away but my hands and feet got very swollen and hurtful.
Avatar n tn I am 30yo. I have had hives for almost a year. I've been to several different doctors and they could not figure out anything. They want to admit me to a hospital, but that is a month away. Antihistamines don't work (I think, but I am taking them anyway). I have major hives ourbursts each day. It starts in the evening, explodes during the night, and they stop being active around noon the they after that. And then the night comes, and all over again.
Avatar n tn Hey, I'm just looking for advice and to see if anyone else is going through what i am. I was Diagnosed with chronic Cholinergic Urticaria. I cant exercise, i cant even go outside in the winter, i break out in hives every single day and every time i do, my throat gets real scratchy, and really gets be scared. On top of that i'm also highly allergic to dust, molds, pollen, dander, and almost every other airborne allergens.
Avatar f tn I have a burning and itching sensation after being in sun for more than a hr and that turns into red rashes/hives the next day which covers my entire face and arms. It itches and it feels terribly hot on the affected area. I have typically dry skin so the problem worsens. I am also Hypothyroid for which i am taking proper medication. I dont know if that linked to my plb anyway.
Avatar f tn I took my last dose of prednisone and now the rash is spreading down my neck and worse than ever. I believe the prednisone made it worse. I was on for 14 days and my highest dose was 60mg. Any way I am at my wits end. I am seeing my GP again tomorrow. Any ideas of what it might be?
Avatar m tn Hi. I have hives(urticaria) almost everyday for 12 weeks or so. I've seen 2 dermatologists. I've been on xyzal, doxepine and hydroxyzine with little or any real benefit. The hives are red and itch. They come and go. Other than that I have no other problems. My doc said they usually never find a reason and most go away over time. No blood tests ordered. Anyone have any suggestions? It's annoying.
Avatar n tn I saw a post at this site for a person who had similar symptoms from knee replacment surgery. I had a titanium hip joint replacement and about 6 or 7 weeks after surgery I started to have itchiness (all over my body) and hives. It started with a slight itch in the late afternoon and became severed after dinner in the early evening. I have seen an allergist and had blood work done and am waiting for the results and a follow up appointment.
Avatar n tn I have had a problem with hives all over my body for a month or more now. My hands start to itch first, then the bottom of my feet, then my scalp even the inside of my mouth itches sometimes. I'm a hairdresser and suspect it could be the chemicals and shampoos and products. Or could this be a food allergy? I take a wonderful antihistamine called xyzal. It works really well but when it wears off I'm in trouble.
Avatar n tn I have had on-and-off unexplained hives for over a year now. It really started two years ago, which I thought was a new allergic reaction to shellfish. The doctor gave me steroids. This past year, I got them again and had been eating shellfish, so thought it was the same thing. I got steroids, they gave me bad dreams. Hives didn't go away. Back to the doctor for different steroids, prednisone?, hives eventually went away.
Avatar m tn If you still develop hives then the cause for hives is not known. In most cases hives are of idiopathic origin. You can use topical steroids or immunomodulators for relief if you continue to have hives inspite of using antihistamines.
Avatar n tn The bite area became infected and I was prescribed antibiotics for the infection. A few weeks later I began getting hives pretty much with different triggers. Some even at the bottom of my feet from standing in one place too long. It got a little bitter with time but I was told by my physician to take antihistamines for 30 days straight and I did so. I have a slight improvement in that I mostly got the hives when I was either exercising or when I was in the cold.
Avatar n tn Whatever is going on creates a histamine response in my body where I will break into hives or have extreme itching on my palms or ankles. I take xyzal daily, and this has helped relieve those issues, with exception to vaginal and anal itching! Nothing is visibly wrong in these areas, and I am miserable! Ice can relieve some of that, but I am miserable! My husband and son are now also complaining about similar symptoms.... what could this be? Also, skin is not normal...
Avatar n tn For the past year, I have been suffering from Chronic Idiopathic Urticaria. At first, the hives were quite sporadic, occurring once or twice a month, but since December 09, they've been occurring daily. They appear at different areas on my body (including my palms), but rarely on my face, and usually last 2-3 hours. I've been tested for allergies, both food and environmental, and the only positives were certain molds, trees, and grasses.
Avatar n tn I have been on Xyzal for 5-6 years and had to go off, suddenly, for a week due to allergy testing. I have itched and scratched myself until I have bruises on my legs, arms, and feet! It's absolutely horrible!! :( In response to the other person who replied to you, it's typically NOT an issue to stay on 2nd generation antihistamines, long-term. Nor is it a problem to quit them suddenly EXCEPT (apparently) with Xyzal and Zyrtec (both are Cetirizine-based).
Avatar f tn in 60 degree weather I still break out in hives. I have a disability hearing in May for this condition. It has truly taken control over my life and me being a mother to my children. I cannot even eat or drink anything cold nc my mouth and throat burn. Just like you, ppl think I am crazy when i tell them I have this condition.
Avatar f tn I had both knees replaced and I too suffer from hivesfor over a year. I have been on 5 -6 courses of steroids and I continue to be on a double dose of Zyrtec, a double dose Xyzal, 1 doses of Doxepin and a dose of Singulair. These have worked for a while and then the hives come back even stronger. The Allergist now wants to add a dose of cyclosporine and if that does not work he wants to add a dose of Methotrexate – all of which have side effects that have to be monitored on a regular basis.
Avatar n tn You may have ideopathic hives. I have had them for 33 years. First a doctor treated with hydroxizine and tagament. That worked for 10 years. Then he added doxepin. Eventually that stopped working. I now take 2 cyclosporine daily with 4 of medrol every other day. Medrol dose packs are used for exacerbations, but they are less and less since I started cyclosporine.
