Common Questions and Answers about Xopenex asthma

xopenex

Avatar n tn Hi, I have a 6 year old son with autism and asthma who has currently started on the Xopenex for the asthma control. He has become extremely hyperactive and somewhat aggressive with the Xopenex, and I am wondering if there are any other meds that wouldn't have this side effect.
Avatar f tn ) challenge is the standard and definitive test for asthma. You are give puffs a methylcoline to try to induce an asthma attack. If you have one, you have asthma and are given albuterol to recover. If you don't have an attack, you look at other potential causes. Not everyone sympotoms are the same. Broncho-constriction is a symptom of asthma. It sounds like you may have exercise induced asthma. Another posibility is a reactive airway disease.

1315759 tn?1274044788 my asthma is not under control, at work it always bothers me. i am on the albuterol pump plus the breathing machine, which both does no good. what other inahlers can i use? or the breathing treatments? at the hospital, they give me xopenex, which works ok, not really good for me. the last time i went to the hospital, the therapist gave me atrovent and xopenex, with 4 doses in one. i told them it was making me too jittery, way more than normal and nobody listened.
Avatar f tn My 9 yr old gets Asthma usually if he's got a cold or through allergies. For example he is allergic to cats and dogs, and contact can give him a flare up. We were told by his Doc that if anyone gets sick to start treating him upon the first cough. They said start with Xopenex (4-6x a day) and give him Flovent once in the morning and once at night. Do this for about 1-2 days. But doesn't it take weeks for Flovent to kick in? Why would they have me do it like this.
312330 tn?1245176752 Are any of you taking theophylline for your asthma? If so, have you had a lot of side effects from it? My doc is considering trying this, just looking for people's experience.
Avatar f tn He said that he must have gotten some sort of virus and it triggered his asthma. He told me to continue his Singulair, Pulmicort Respules one time a day, Xopenex in the nebulizer every four hours, and he prescribed Prednisone two times per day (dr. said to start the steroid only if the cough does not slow down). So on Wednesday morning, my son woke up at 6:30am coughing non-stop....coughing so much that he vomited!
1580703 tn?1651904887 These medications are for treating infections. They will not cure your asthma. You should go see someone who treats asthma who will work with you to manage your condition. There are medications that will help control your symptoms. Your health care provider will help you identify what makes your asthma worse, so you can avoid those triggers. We see a lot of asthma caused by allergies, and so your provider may suggest allergy testing.
Avatar n tn I might have worded that funny about "asthma can lead to pneumonia but not the other way around". Pneumonia can also antagonize asthma if the person already has asthma, but pneumonia doesn't actually cause asthma.

Avatar f tn She took prednisone for 5 days and is on her 7th day of cefzil for infection just because this is what the dr thought she needed She has never gotten much relief with the albuterol or the xopenex which makes me wonder if she indeed has asthma or could it be something else I would really like answers if anyone can help or give us guidance or advice on this situation. It is very scary for her. And we are working on easing her anxiety when she feels she can't breathe .

Avatar m tn Hi, it is possible to be having asthma issues and maintaim a good peak flow for a while. Peak flow reflects how clear the larger airways are. You could be having issues in the smaller airways. The presence of mucous would indicate that something is probably going on. You should really discus this with your dr at your next visit and see what he/she says. Another thought would be acid reflux. Could this be an issue for you?
Avatar f tn 1) a parent or sibling with asthma greatly increases your riisk of having/developing asthma at some point in your life. So asthma is possible. 2) I would definitely try to avoid the CT scn if you can. Radiation exposure that could be avoided. 3) I haven't heard of the methocholine test being expensive, but it might be. That is the standard for a very firm asthma diagnosis. It very well could be worth it.
Avatar f tn So if you are experiencing frequent attacks of asthma, you should try to prevent triggering agents which cause asthma and also get evaluated by a pulmonologist for correction of dose of polemicist for preventing further attacks of asthma. Hope this helps. Best.
Avatar n tn My 6 year old grandaughter often has to take Xopenex HFA for asthma related issues. It makes her extremely irritable, she has a bad temper and in general is very mooddy? Is this a side affect?
327369 tn?1326119908 Hi there! I am new to this board....I am not new to asthma. My son and daughter have it. My daughter's has usually been pretty easy to control using our plan. However, my son has always had the kind of asthma that scares me. We have been hospitalized three times since 15 months of age. He is three this month. Every single time he gets a chest cold we end up in the ER and he gets pnuemonia so quick.
1987536 tn?1337916244 Has anyone with asthma been told to continue?their daily affair treatment plus albuterol as needed? The reality is that I have had allergic rhinitis during the whole pregnancy, I am 18 weeksand the last two days have been horrible w my breathing. So, I used my rescue nebulizer yesterday and today with albuterol. I feel much better, but curiosity intrigued me and I started Googling about the risks of not taking meds vs taking the meds and they both blow.

Avatar f tn I have been getting treatment for asthma for over three years now....neublizer w/xopenex...flomax, advair, asthmanex, to name a few...I am still coughing like crazy. I had allergy tests and have been on Allegra and a nasal spray....no relief. It appears that all of a sudden my throat is dry and has a "catch" in it and I start coughing and then water pours out of my eyes and tons of mucous pours out of my mouth.

1763947 tn?1334055319 Lobelia for the asthma to clear out the inflammation in the body that causes asthma. Also, many patients with "Vocal Cord Dysfunction" are often misdiagnosed with asthma. There is treatment for VCD.
Avatar n tn My daughter has viral induced asthma and is 5. She got diagnosed at age 4. She takes q-var daily and xopenex when a virus starts and the oral steriod if need be which seems like quite often! Recently she was sick and coughing uncontrollably and we did xopenex and the 20 minute rescue treatment because she was still coughing after the first dose of xopenex. We ended up going to the ER. The Er Dr. said she had a bad sinus infection (as x rays were taken of her sinuses).
Avatar f tn he takes nebulizer treatments on a daily basis, pulmicort and if needed, xopenex, he cardiac issues, asthma and narrowing if his throat. he has been on these medications since he was 5 weeks old. today while he was at school he was very short of breath and not wheezing but could feel that junkie **** in his lungs, so they gave him a treatment, as they gave him his treatment his eyes rolled tothe back of his head and started to flutter, the person said this can happen during an asthma attack.
Avatar m tn I've heard that theophylline can help sleep apnea and asthma and is related chemically to coffee. I'm also interested in trying xolair but read that it can increase risk of cancer.
Avatar m tn I am not a doctor but I have been living with asthma for more than thirty years and six years ago I was diagnosed with tachycardia. Take your medication for tachy on time if you are on medication, if not get to the nearest emergency room when you are having an attack. The same is true for an asthma attack. If you experience both at the same time, use your medication and go to the emergency room. If you are taking ventolin for asthma, you know that it may speed up your heart rate.
