when does maxalt go generic

Well, I finally got the Rx that the Dr gave me as a PRN for migraines....Maxalt. I can take every 2 hrs up to 3 per day. But quanity is only 8 with 3 refills. My question is...is this the typical way to prescribe this Rx...as opposed to getting a 30 day supply? Or is this just how this particular doc operates???

Maxalt! Maxalt is a great triptan! I think that the fast acting triptans like Maxalt-MLTs are some of the best. Fast acting triptans are any triptans that are orally disintegrating tablets (like the Maxalt-MLTs) or Nasal Sprays or Injections. I use Zomig Nasal Spray which is another type of fast acting triptan, but Maxalt-MLTs work amazingly too... out of all of the triptans I've tried I think that Maxalt-MLTs and Zomig Nasal Spray have worked much faster than any of the other triptans.

When I was having frequent migraines and my insurance would only pay for one refill of Maxalt each month, I obtained prescriptions for both Maxalt and Relpax and filled both each month. They worked equally well for me.

Anyway, because of superior bioavailability of the more expensive triptans is why I suggest getting the back up prescriptions for the Zomig Nasal Spray and the Maxalt-MLTs just in case the generic Sumatriptan tablets do not work for you. But, for cost reasons, fill the generic Sumatriptan tablet prescription first! (as long as the doctor at the clinic agrees) And, try to get samples of what ever triptans the clinic has to hand out if possible, regardless of the brand..

She proclaims that she diluted and injected her migraine medicine (Maxalt) because she keeps throwing it up. Her symptoms, however, where those of an opiate overdose....blue hands and face, low respiration, eyes rolling backwards, staggering, tremoring arms upon waking up, disorientation, etc. Does anyone know what the side effects would be of injecting maxalt? I find this impossible to believe that it would knock her out and turn her blue.

Hello Everyone, I'm 22 and just graduated University. I have been having migraines since I was about 7 years old now. However, over the years they have seemed to get much worse. I thought that the higher frequency could have been from my lack of sleep and bad diet that I had throughout high school and college. Now that I have been out of college for over a month now the migraines haven't seemed to subside.

I also noticed a great difference when I went from generic to brandname synthroid. I was extremely nervous when taking the generic and it went away on the synthroid.

does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.

I currently use Imitrex and/or Maxalt (generic, of course) for migraine attacks, but was often running out of meds before I was able to refill (lovely insurance companies dictating how many days one can have relief from pain). When she got off of work, she picked up my Maxalt and brought it to me. She also brought me some hot dogs, chips and pop because I had nothing to eat in the house. Hubby left on Wednsday and took the kids up to the cabin, so I've been here alone. I thought that was extremely nice of my friend to go and do that for me.

Metoclopramide makes the triptans more effective, so I take it when the triptans fail or when they are not completely relieving my symptoms. The Metoclopramide is an antiemetic so it stops nausea and vomiting, and so I always take it if I have nausea with my migraine. You may want to look into metoclopramide, because you may find that your triptan works better when you take them in combination, and it will also increase the effectiveness of the advil you take.

Hello Kalvin. Thanks for your input. The maxalt is for when I am really bad ( once a month or so ). As for a specialist of any kind, we are in the same place a lot of people are right now. No extra means for anything. Oh well, such is life. Thanks again for your responce.

if a headache does not get better with home treatment, please go to the doctor. Also, if a headache does not go away for over 3 days at all, like no relief at all, then you can even go to emergency. If you feel you cannot handle the pain, please go to emergency. If the headache at any point becomes "the worst pain imaginable" then also please go to emergency. If you can't drive, phone a taxi...

My first 2pregnacys they also gave me vicoden for when migranes were unbearable. This pregnancy my Dr told me I could also take maxalt( I was told w my first 2 that maxalt was not safe AT ALL) after doing some research I decided against maxalt but am continuing firocet.

I have had constant headaches for over 10 years now and was recently diagnosed with a pineal cyst. The size they measured it to be was 1.3 cm by 8mm. I know this is a bit bigger than what they are normally seen at. I have daily headaches...usually worse at night. Trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, usually do to the headaches that I have at night. I get migraine headaches at least once a week and have some visual disturbances.

i took 2 maxalt on saturday for a migraine, it didnt help at all, actually made it worse making me vomit for 3 days and today is friday, 6 days later and i still feel like, tired, weak, foggy, not hungry, cant really go to the bathroom even though i feel like i have to. is this gonna go away?

I've had a headache every single day for the past 3 weeks and I'm not exaggerating either. I've always problems with headaches. Right after exercising as a child id get terrible headaches. I've been to a neurologist as a child and was told it was not migraines and nothing else was done. We'll recently I've been getting headaches and normally ibuprofen/Tylenol would help but it hasn't even lessened the pain whatsoever anymore.

I took my mothers maxalt when I had a migraine and my primary care physicain and my neurologist both scolded me for taking it because of my complicated migraine with aura!

Have you looked into Maxalt. I just got out of recovery and Maxalt was given to a lot of the guys who were having migraines due to w/ds. It was also prescribed as long term treatment for those whos migraines didn't go away. I don't know much about it as I have never taken it but I am still in contact with some of the guys from recovery and they seem to get a lot of relief from it. I do know it is expensive without insurance.

HI.....I've been taking Topomax for several years for migraines, I take 200mg a day and yes, it can have the side effects you describe! Your doc needs to listen to you!!! Docs don't know it all despite what they think. Only you know how you are feeling. If you have the ability, find another doc. What do you take for a migraine outburst? I take Maxalt. I too am pretty much " med resistant" when it comes to ADs. Don't let a doc tell you that that is impossible.

Right now I'm on my 7th migraine in the last 4 weeks. I have a herniated c5-7 that is compressing on the spinal cord. I've been taking Maxalt with some of my migraines, which does help, but insurance only allows so many in a month and they are expensive. I've been also taking percocet in place of the maxalt, but it does not work as well for the headaches. Is there something I can do to try and prevent these migraines? Are there other natural alternatives rather then medication?

I too recommend a doctor. I take maxalt for the relief of migraines and it does not cause me any side affects and the pain is gone within a half hour. It's non- narcotic and there is a generic form but I recommend the name brand. If they are migraines , they will go away. My GP prescribed it for me too.

I also get migraines. have you paid attention to any of the known migraine "triggers" like red wiine & chocolate, hard cheeses etc. You probably have but I thought I'd mention it. Like the others, I take Maxalt for mine & it always works. Maxalt is from the migraine interrupter family & also includes imetrix & Zomig. Good luck - it sounds very difficult.
