Does maxalt have a generic

Common Questions and Answers about Does maxalt have a generic

maxalt

Avatar f tn t mean to interrupt but I am actually a pharmacist and thought I could clarify the maxalt questions.... Maxalt is not a beta blocker. It is a 5HT1B receptor agonist. Basically it's a triptan drug that is used for vascular migraines. Vascular migraines cause vasodilation of blood vessels and that dilation causes pain. Triptan drugs cause vasoconstriction of those blood vessels and thus reduced the pain caused by pressure.
1088430 tn?1259159773 Maxalt! Maxalt is a great triptan! I think that the fast acting triptans like Maxalt-MLTs are some of the best. Fast acting triptans are any triptans that are orally disintegrating tablets (like the Maxalt-MLTs) or Nasal Sprays or Injections. I use Zomig Nasal Spray which is another type of fast acting triptan, but Maxalt-MLTs work amazingly too... out of all of the triptans I've tried I think that Maxalt-MLTs and Zomig Nasal Spray have worked much faster than any of the other triptans.
Avatar f tn I have been taking Relpax 40 ml for the coming on of a migraine. I have been getting fewer and fewer over the years. However, I am only allowed 9 pills for the month thru my health insurance. Is there another new migraine medicine out there that I could get that would be similier but would allow me more pills for the month.
Avatar n tn is there a generic for maxalt? is tere one coming.

1102283 tn?1257817472 d personally suggest getting a few triptan prescriptions or samples at once if possible due to the fact that you do not have insurance and triptans can be very expensive and you may want to be able to have a selection of price-points to choose from once at the pharmacy. The fast acting triptans such as Zomig Nasal Spray and Maxalt-MLTs are some of the best triptans on the market, but they are also the most expensive triptans on the market.
Avatar m tn I have a family member who is a heroin addict. She also suffers from migraines accompanied by vomiting. Today she passed out & turned blue, prompting me to call 911. She proclaims that she diluted and injected her migraine medicine (Maxalt) because she keeps throwing it up. Her symptoms, however, where those of an opiate overdose....blue hands and face, low respiration, eyes rolling backwards, staggering, tremoring arms upon waking up, disorientation, etc.
Avatar f tn does either imitrex or maxalt contain caffeine? I was taking Maxalt for migraines and it worked great! Now my insurance has decided I need to try Imitrex before they will approve coverage for the Maxalt. The Imitrex took about 2 hours to have any effect, but eventually my headache subsided. Since then I have had recurring headaches for 4 days.
4980051 tn?1361868778 Hello. I have SEVERE migraines at least 3 times a week, and headaches daily. Does anyone know of a good medication that will work for Migraines besides Topomax? I cannot take it, as there are side effects that are dangerous to me.
Avatar f tn I have had a "migraine" for over a year now and nothing has helped. I have been on migraine preventatives, gabapentin, morphine, blood pressure meds, anti-anxiety medication, amitryptiline, Thorazine, steroids, you name it I have taken it. I have also had MRI's, CT scans, sinus surgery, lumbar punctures (5) and blood work multiple times. I have seen 3 neurologists, a headache specialist, acupuncture, massage therapy, chiropractic.... EVERYTHING!
Avatar n tn About a year later I began to have periodic headaches. They have been increasing in quantity and severity until about a year and a half ago I had to stop working completely. I am on a combination of darvacet, tramadol, topomax and maxalt. The combination leaves me in bed about 18 hours a day. I have had two MRIs. One with contrast and one without. Neither shows any good reason for my pain.
1030950 tn?1261010513 They might not be able to permanently stop your headache, but they WILL be able to temporarily stop the headache with strong pain killers and/or other methods depending on the type of headache you have (such as oxygen if it is a cluster headache). Also, going to emergency is a good way to be seen faster by a neurologist if you feel you cannot wait for your booked appointment because the pain is too intense or unmanageable.
655875 tn?1295695107 My friend had called me and I told her that I was too sick to talk and that I had run out of my Maxalt. My friend is a life saver! When she got off of work, she picked up my Maxalt and brought it to me. She also brought me some hot dogs, chips and pop because I had nothing to eat in the house. Hubby left on Wednsday and took the kids up to the cabin, so I've been here alone. I thought that was extremely nice of my friend to go and do that for me.
Avatar f tn My first 2pregnacys they also gave me vicoden for when migranes were unbearable. This pregnancy my Dr told me I could also take maxalt( I was told w my first 2 that maxalt was not safe AT ALL) after doing some research I decided against maxalt but am continuing firocet.
Avatar f tn I have had constant headaches for over 10 years now and was recently diagnosed with a pineal cyst. The size they measured it to be was 1.3 cm by 8mm. I know this is a bit bigger than what they are normally seen at. I have daily headaches...usually worse at night. Trouble falling asleep and staying asleep, usually do to the headaches that I have at night. I get migraine headaches at least once a week and have some visual disturbances.
Avatar f tn It is probably not something more than a migraine... it is usually very rare for someone with migraines to have a migraine-like headache and have it not be a migraine BUT if your migraine pattern changes it is important to go to the doctor to let them know this because even though it is rare, there is still the very small slight possibility that it could be something else if it is different from normal.
Avatar f tn Hi, Thank you for responding. Yes you are right, i have experienced serotonin syndrome in the past, in 2006. I was on a high dose of Imitrex and due to the amount of migraines i have, i was taking too much. I suffer from about 16 to at the most 23 migraines a month. I have been seeing a neuro for about 6 yrs, and have had all the test, CT's, MRI's and have been on about every preventative known with out success. So, now i just take the low dose Maxalt 5mg and daily advil.
455075 tn?1223052517 By any chance did you switch from brand name synthroid to a generic? Sometimes the levels of thyroid hormones in generic just aren't as consistent as they should be. However, it just might be your body adjusting to all the changes - I had a TT in May '06 and had perfectly good levels until my 3 month followup, when I went hypo and needed a dosage increase. I'd call you doctor and tell them your symptoms and ask to have your thyroid levels tested.
Avatar f tn The result (I take 4 a day and up it to six if I feel a migraine coming on) is that I have not had a severe migraine since May. The ones I get now are relatively minor, no nausea or vomiting, and I'm able to go about my day more or less, instead of dying in bed for 24 hours and only getting up to vomit. Give it a shot for the migraines......there's lots of info if you google.
655875 tn?1295695107 Right now I'm on my 7th migraine in the last 4 weeks. I have a herniated c5-7 that is compressing on the spinal cord. I've been taking Maxalt with some of my migraines, which does help, but insurance only allows so many in a month and they are expensive. I've been also taking percocet in place of the maxalt, but it does not work as well for the headaches. Is there something I can do to try and prevent these migraines? Are there other natural alternatives rather then medication?
Avatar f tn At first it was only once a week, and then went to three times a week, then back to one or none, and now I have had a migraine every day this week since Sunday. I find that I always wake up with them. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to be sick. Sometimes, like today, I felt dizzy to the point where I had to sit down and kept having to go sit down at work and had stomach aches and a migraine.
Avatar f tn it is a wrong name for drugs just to make more money for the first drug maker who did the drug generic is the same drug made from another drug maker, this is why the name generic is very wrong, generic sounds like the drug is different but only drug maker is different.
Avatar n tn i took 2 maxalt on saturday for a migraine, it didnt help at all, actually made it worse making me vomit for 3 days and today is friday, 6 days later and i still feel like, tired, weak, foggy, not hungry, cant really go to the bathroom even though i feel like i have to. is this gonna go away?
1817265 tn?1317302747 We finally got our BFP after almost 2yr of trying and 2 IUI's. Took a hpt yesterday and saw the VERY faint line and family MD did a yes/no blood test, and while it was faint as well, it was a yes. AF wasn't supposed to even show till tomorrow so I'm not even 4wks. We are praying all goes well and can't wait to hold our blessing in our arms!
1767882 tn?1331409169 Thanks Vicki. Her disability is migraines. She's sometimes down for days when she has an "episode". Nothing gets rid of it. She's tried all the migraine meds. Maxalt works best but it doesn't work all the time. Neurologists are baffled. No one has been able to help her. She's been on the Effexor for probably 10 years. She says it saved her life. As fas as doctors, she really doesn't have one.
Avatar n tn I too recommend a doctor. I take maxalt for the relief of migraines and it does not cause me any side affects and the pain is gone within a half hour. It's non- narcotic and there is a generic form but I recommend the name brand. If they are migraines , they will go away. My GP prescribed it for me too.
1524673 tn?1327841500 Another point. Cambia works any time durning a headache. So if you wake up and have a full blown headache, Cambia works. You can not take Ibprofan with this med.
