I have simple partial seizures and was on xanax on an "as needed" basis to control some nervousness about going back to college. I was on it for about 2 months. You can catch HSV-1 genitally. I think maybe that's what happened to you. Ask your doctor if you think a round of antivirals like Valtrex could work and see if your symptoms end. Redness/itching are symptoms of herpes BUT they're also symptoms of a whole plethora of things. If HSV-1 is the cause of your symptoms, antibiotics won't work. As antibiotics only work against bacteria and HSV is a virus. I agree that you should see a dermatologist and see what they say also.

Like most I cannot afford Valtrex any more. I have switched to Acyclovir. I've used it effectively for the couple of outbreaks but it seems to be taking considerably longer. I am taking L-Lysene as a suppressor and only take the Acyclovir at the first sign of an outbreak. I was taking 1000mg Valtrex at onset and then 500mg twice a day and everything was clear in 3 days. To get the same effectiveness from Acyclovir how much should I be taking daily during out breaks?
