Avatar m tn i used to have allergies to valtrex, but my doctor recommended prosurx to me and it helped me more.
7868606 tn?1410358984 Valtrex is usually for herpes infections and they usually just treat gbs with IV antibiotics when you're in labor so idk id call them back and ask why they gave you that?
Avatar m tn we treat herpes simplex and herpes zoster with the same medications. it's just a matter of dose.
Avatar m tn I used Monistat and Diflucan which seemed to treat it, and saw my doctor for further STD testing just to be sure. She confirmed that it appeared to be a nasty yeast infection and the STD tests I had done all came back negative (except HSV1 of course). About 4 weeks later I had what I thought was another yeast infection. I treated it immediately with Diflucan, and 7 days after that treatment, I was not convinced it was a typical yeast infection.
Avatar f tn taking a valtrex prior to sex isn't going to help at all. it takes at least 5 days of taking it daily to reduce the risk to a partner. if you are a female with hsv2 and have a hsv2 negative male partner, if you did nothing but avoid sex any time during any genital symptoms, he is 96% likely each year NOT to contract hsv2 from you. If you also use condoms and take daily suppressive therapy with valtrex, he has on average a 99% odd each year of NOT contracting hsv2 from you.
Avatar f tn m trying to figure out if I need to take the meds to treat this ob or let my body fight it to get the valtrex out of my system. I feel like i've become dependent on it and that is the last thing I want. I'm very concerned about the long term effects of taking any medication. Any opinions on longterm daily suppressive therapy. Any feedback or opinions are appreciated and welcomed....
Avatar m tn Just wondering if genital herpes (HSV 2) can become resistant to valtrex over time. Been on it daily nearly two years and just had only my second outbreak. Not a bad one, but one none-the-less. Some things I've read indicate that this is possible. I'm certainly hoping that's not the case. Thanks.
Avatar n tn I have a question. Are drugs in the benzo family ever used to treat seizures? As in Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, Ativan, Restoril, etc? I have simple partial seizures and was on xanax on an "as needed" basis to control some nervousness about going back to college. I was on it for about 2 months. I started realizing I got less of my sensory and motor seizures which have always been uncontrollable since I started getting them back in 2000.
Avatar m tn Like most I cannot afford Valtrex any more. I have switched to Acyclovir. I've used it effectively for the couple of outbreaks but it seems to be taking considerably longer. I am taking L-Lysene as a suppressor and only take the Acyclovir at the first sign of an outbreak. I was taking 1000mg Valtrex at onset and then 500mg twice a day and everything was clear in 3 days. To get the same effectiveness from Acyclovir how much should I be taking daily during out breaks?
Avatar m tn also you never have to treat your herpes if you don't want to. if you want to stop suppressive therapy, you certainly can.
Avatar n tn Honestly the outbreaks are better than they used to be. I quit taking valtrex because of the headaches, and I was starting to get a rash-which happened to me before. I already have bad migraines. She was only giving me 1 pill and day- and she recommended 2 x a day for 10 days. I don't think I can tolerate it. I would love to find another alternative with no side effects.
Avatar f tn Valtrex is not used to treat a UTI. A UTI is bacterial and would need antibiotics to treat and not antivirals (like Valtrex). I would find out exactly what kind of testing you had done. IgG? IGM? Was it a type-specific test? This is important to know as these tests can be inaccurate if the wrong one is given.
Avatar f tn lysine isn't effective for herpes. we don't recommend it. if you have a regular partner who you are trying to reduce the risk of transmission to, then take valtrex every single day. If you don't currently have a partner and aren't having any painful recurrences, no reason to take it at this time. make sense?
Avatar f tn The latest drug they want me to try is CellCept which is used in transplant patients to decrease rejection. Now I have also been trying to have children, and with this drug I absolutely cannot get pregnant, as it causes major birth defects. Also I have a giant increase in risk of cancer, and sickness. My question is.... has anyone had success taking this drug, and being able to taper off with no recurrence of symptoms?
644816 tn?1224537250 You can treat ob's for $4 with acyclovir from walmart if you live in the US. Suppressive therapy from there is about $15/month. The only lysine dose that showed any effects at all was 1gm 3x/day which is more of a hassle to take than 2x/day, is more expensive and hasn't been shown to have any effect on overall viral shedding. No dose of lysine was shown to speed healing when just taken during ob's.
Avatar n tn I am a health care provider who USED to write Rx for Valtrex, but watching the unethical behavior of GSK in their drive to keep the prices up high, how they treat their sales staff and the unreasonable drug costs for the last several years I have been a devoted writer of generic Acyclovir. I am CONVINCED that GSK has everything to do with a sudden shortage of acyclovir and the pressure on generic manufacturers to stop producing....
Avatar m tn However, these have not been formulated, and have had no clinical trials, specifically to treat HSV.
Avatar m tn Yes, the Acyclovir and Valtrex are for Herpes. Period. Both medicines are used to treat HSV1 and HSV2, so just because she has these medicines does not absolutely mean she has HSV2. But if she does have HSV2, then as for you not contracting it, consider yourself very very very very very lucky. And remember this, if she does have HSV2..don't get too mad about it..consider yourself foturnate that you didn't catch it.....
Avatar m tn Follow-up with your dermatologist - I know from experience that yeast can be hard to treat, and you may need a different product to treat it.
Avatar f tn REcently broke out with a bad herpes sore on my lip and currently taking 1mg of valtrex along with topical cream. Anyone know other remedies to treat the sore along with what I am currently doing.
1302779 tn?1287405029 i have generic valtrex but i also have chronic migraine and i feel the valtrex gives me a headache. do u get side effects from valtrex?
Avatar f tn s up to you both as to if you feel that suppressive therapy is worthwhile or if you just want to treat ob's as they happen. If valtrex isn't cheap on your insurance then both of you can switch to acyclovir too.
Avatar f tn acyclovir works just fine. the main difference is you have to take it more often than you do valtrex. click on my name and go to my journal and look for a post titled how should I treat my herpes for more info. if you are going to take suppressive therapy, take it 400mg twice a day every single day if you are using acyclovir. if you want to just treat ob's as they occur, the easiest way is to take 800mg 3 times a day for 2 days with acyclovir.
Avatar n tn t take any medicine and have sex an average of about twice a week is 4%. If you had Valtrex to the mix, it cuts the risk to 2%. If you add condoms, it cuts it more, but I can't give you a specific number, but it is a considerable amount. I do consider taking an antiviral daily to reduce transmission to a partner. First I think your partner should be tested to see what they have, if anything, in the way of herpes.
Avatar m tn If she did get HSV 2 orally, she could definitely take Valtrex to reduce the symptoms and shorten the duration of her outbreak. The dose to treat recurrent cold sores is 2 grams of Valtrex, then 12 hours later, another 2 grams. But that's recurrent disease, not first episode oral infection. We have no studies on that, but if it was my patient that acquired first episode HSV 2 orally, I would treat with the genital herpes first episode dosing - 1 gram twice a day for 10 days.
