Common Questions and Answers about What is valacyclovir used for

valtrex

Avatar n tn I have read that Valtrex and Valacyclovir can be used for the suppression of herpes , does that hold true for Valcivir also,, isn't Valacyclovir the generic of Valciver ,, if yes what is the usual dosage for the suppression of the virus?
Avatar m tn what are the treatments for hsv2/ are they prescribed or can i get them over the counter?
Avatar m tn Thank you for your answers to my earlier questions about how contagious GHSV-1 is. You helped and your responses were comforting. Yet I have some more questions: (1) It is my understanding that it is hard to shed asymptomatically from my stomach and that is why it is taking longer to heal (will...it's healed...but for the redness to go away). Do you, or anyone else, know how long it normally takes for your stomach to heal completely (as in no signs at all)?
Avatar f tn about 2 weeks ago... I had a standard HIV test done on the first day of symptoms (about a week after my last sexual exposure) and that test came back negative. Doc now has me on valacyclovir because he thinks i have oral herpes. The valacyclovir has taken much of my fever away. And the nystatin and valacyclovir have together mostly cleared up my tongue sores and blisters. But I feel like without the valacyclovir, i'd be very very sick.
Avatar f tn Long-term use of acyclovir for up to 10 years for HSV suppression is effective and well tolerated. Acyclovir is also approved for use in children, is available in some countries over the counter in cream formulation for herpes labialis, and has been monitored in over 1000 pregnancies. Safety monitoring data from clinical trials of valacyclovir, involving over 3000 immunocompetent and immunocompromised persons receiving long-term therapy for HSV suppression, were analyzed.
Avatar m tn (1) always use a condom even when there is no outbreak and we are willing to do so, although we would both prefer to not use a condom if I have no symptoms (I only get outbreaks maybe once a year, or less and I get the tingling in my upper legs so I know when they are coming) (2) The scary advice is that she can get the virus from me anyway just from touching me when there is no outbreak We would like to know what sex fondling can we do that is safe for her?
Avatar m tn Hello, Dr's. I have been reading a lot and am a bit perplexed. Last Friday night I had unprotected sex with a female. I awoke Monday morning and noticed 2 red bumps on my upper left thigh (1 larger than the other), 3 small bumps in my pubic region (2 of which looked like zits with white heads), some reddish/flesh colored bumps beginning to arise on the shaft of my penis.
Avatar f tn Hi, 12 weeks is the time that would be considered for accurate testing but at 8 weeks you should have fallen into the low positive if you had it. Do you know what test you had? Of course only the 12 test will confirm but a negative at 8 weeks pretty much assures you that you are in fact negative. Anything below 1 in the herpes select test type specific would be considered negative but at 8 weeks it often would show a 1.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar m tn I was diagnosed with genital herpes about 5 years ago. Then I started taking 500mg Valacyclovir (M191) daily and that helped me a lot. I would maybe get 1 out break a year and the sore would be very small & heal fast. I am also taking Lysine pills everyday. 1000mg to 2000mg a day. Last week, I had some redness on my penis and didn't really think anything of it. 2-3 days later 2 small scabs showed up on the same spot on my penis and they fell off within the next 4 days.
Avatar n tn So, you have, like a lot of people, herpes simplex 1. It IS contagious so be careful of that so you don't spread it to others. Don't pick the sores off. Take the medicine and if you feel a tingle like another cold sore is coming, use the valacyclovir. You may have angiokeratoma of Fordyce which normally goes away if left alone.
Avatar m tn My dr prescribed me with 30 1g of valacyclovir with no instructions on taking them. I took 1g of valacyclovir every day for 30 days. My last day taking valacyclovir was 02-28-18. I took a igG herpeselect blood on 4-3-18 and it was negative. I was told that the antivirals affected my test and i would have to be off of them for 12 weeks. So i tested again for hsv 1 and 2 on 05-24-18 exactly 12 weeks off of antivirals and it was negative.
Avatar f tn I talk valacyclovir for herpes out breaks I have a high dosage one for when I get them it doesn't harm the baby. Though this is my first pregnancy and I'm 7 weeks. They told me once I get closer to my due date to take them daily so there is no break out.
Avatar n tn You could have hsv2 on your thigh (which is genital herpes), and hsv1 on your face. I say this because if you had it for 10 or so years before getting it on your face, you'd have antibodies that would make it next to impossible for you to get hsv2 anywhere else on your body. In any case, the type doesn't matter so much with Valtrex. There is kind of a rebound that some people experience when going off suppression. It's fairly common to get an outbreak after that.
Avatar n tn Hi i would not think what your describing is related to Herpes symplex as nerve damage is more done from another strain of herpes called zoster also know as shingles which is terrible rash mostly on the back. also nerves areas that herpes penetrats are calle ganglia and if you have it in the lip/face area it would not show symptoms on the lower ganglia as with your feet. Not sure what to advise but maybe see a doc about this.
Avatar m tn Even though my co-pay is low now that it is generic, it costs the health care system significantly for me to continue it. It the evidence is not clear for me that it is protective of her then I would talk to her about stopping it, but if the best evidence that we have is that it is protective for her then I'll take it for the rest of my life if needed.
Avatar f tn I'm interested in learning what helps naturally with keeping herpes at bay as it seems to be worsening for me. I tried the meds 16 years ago and realized they made outbreaks worse for me. I did the lysine pills from then on. My outbreaks would consist of one small lesion. Now I'm experiencing nerve pain in lower back, buttocks and thigh area and at least for lesions in a totally different area of skin than I'm used to. My butt pain is not subsiding.
