I have read that Valtrex and Valacyclovir can be used for the suppression of herpes , does that hold true for Valcivir also,, isn't Valacyclovir the generic of Valciver ,, if yes what is the usual dosage for the suppression of the virus?
My dr prescribed me with 30 1g of valacyclovir with no instructions on taking them. I took 1g of valacyclovir every day for 30 days. My last day taking valacyclovir was 02-28-18. I took a igG herpeselect blood on 4-3-18 and it was negative. I was told that the antivirals affected my test and i would have to be off of them for 12 weeks. So i tested again for hsv 1 and 2 on 05-24-18 exactly 12 weeks off of antivirals and it was negative.
1. Tell your partner you are infected, 2. Take daily valacyclovir, 3. Use condoms, and 4. Do not have sex if lesions are present. By following these steps people can go for years without infecting their sex partners.

I agree with you on the protective effects, including that you are currently taking daily valacyclovir, all combine to reduce your risk for transmission of infection. I should also point out that while we DO know that each of these variables acts independently to reduce risk, how they all work together at the same time is not possible to estimate.
I have been experiencing all-over-body nerve tingling for about 10 months now, after a strangely over the top outbreak of cold sores (HSV1) on my chin, nose & upper lip - the nerve tingling happens: scalp, ears, eyelids, nose, temples, armpits, arms, hands, groin, knees, feet, all over the place. (1) It is my understanding that it is hard to shed asymptomatically from my stomach and that is why it is taking longer to heal (will...it's healed...but for the redness to go away). Do you, or anyone else, know how long it normally takes for your stomach to heal completely (as in no signs at all)?
I'm on daily 1 gram valacyclovir for suppressive therapy. I can feel a new outbreak coming. Would it help if a take the valacyclovir twice daily for a couple of days to help with the OB?

Would acute HIV ever present like this, acute outbreak of symptoms, disappear for a week, then recurr? Could the valacyclovir have masked the effects of acute HIV one I started taking it? should I be looking at bacterial causes?
Please help with opinions. I need to make the right next steps with my health care providers. Everyone wants to tke a wait And see approach but I want to take charge of it.
1. No, valacyclovir has no effect on the time it takes for an HIV blood test to become positive. If you had a meaningful exposure (you did not) a 6 week test would be highly reliable.
2. No. Once again, condom protected sex is safe sex.

Hi community, I've had 4 unprotected heterosexual encounters over the last four months, the most recent being this past weekend.
On Sunday I began feeling swollen lymph nodes in my groin. Monday I began having a fever and diarrhea, along with continued groin lymph swelling, and night sweats began (I've been using acetaminophen ever since to try to regulate my temperature--with some success) ... Tuesday I started to notice my mouth wasn't right. It felt chalky and full.

Would you double the valacyclovir dosage or at least up it? What about for long-term suppressive therapy? If someone could in particular elucidate how valacyclovir works and WHY it would be important/ unimportant to adjust that dosage based on wanting to suppress both conditions, you would have my eternal thanks.
Do you use protection? Because that would explain why he doesn't have type 2.
If you are experiencing any of this, I encourage you to pay and make a much more detailed post to Terri Warren about this on the herpes forum. If you are having that complicated of a herpes infection, you need to be asking her about it.
By the way, the currently recommended treatment for recurrent oral herpes is only 2 large doses of valacyclovir (2 grams), 12 hours apart. In fact, you probably could even skip the second dose; just one 2 gram dose probably would do it.
While all 3 available antiviral medications are likely to work since their mechanisms of action is the same, only valacyclovir has been studied for this purpose and therefore can be considered to be "proven" for this purpose. Daily suppressive therapy will reduce recurrences, reduce asymptomatic shedding of the virus and reduce transmission.
