Common Questions and Answers about What is lumigan used for

lumigan

Avatar m tn Lumigan is a glaucoma medication that is put directly on the eye. Latisse is the same medication, different packaging for eyelash growth and it is painted on the eyelashes with a brush. I suppose the study that was completed 12/31/09 for growing eyelashes was only done on upper lid eyelashes. Then that's all that the FDA will allow them to say.
Avatar m tn I have taken Lumigan for open Angle Glaucoma for a couple of years in one eye only. In April the ophthalmologist asked me to put them in both eyes. I have no problems with that and my IOP is well controlled. However, I noticed my PVC's have gone up considerably since taken the drops. At first with only one eye I had about 15,000 per day, now with drops in both eyes they have gone up to almost 30,000 per day. There where no other medication changes during that time.
Avatar m tn If you had side effects on BB before you likely would again. So if lumigan once/day is working well why try something new that likely will not work as well.
Avatar n tn I have pseudo-exfoliation in left eye. Started out on xalatan, then switched over to Lumigan when I was Glaucoma Suspect with ocular pressure 21-30. Under control low 20's on Lumigan, optic nerve healthy, no visual fields defects on test 5 months ago. However, last visit hemorrhage on optic nerve found and added Alpgagan P to Lumigan, did not do a thing after 6 weeks, pressure 24 today. Dr.
Avatar m tn Lumigan (marketed for eyelashes as Latisse) has only been studied for eyelash growth and about 70% of people do develop longer thicker eyelashes. To my knowledge it has not been studied for scalp or eyebrow growth.
Avatar n tn The only thing that may help is stopping the lumigan and eventually you may see some improvement. You can also get the same problem with travatan and xalatan. I suggest you look into SLT laser treatment as a way to reduce the pressure and maybe drop down to just one medication a day hopefully. Then you might be able to use alphagan or trusot/azopt or a beta blocker and avoid the darkening problem.
Avatar m tn effect and corrects some of the refractive error in your glasses, helps reading also. For this reason often used after lasik surgery when glare at night is a problem.
Avatar n tn Alphagan is less expensive than Alphagan P. The difference is the preservative that is less irritating to some people with the "P" type. The IOP lowering capacity is the same. Xalatan (latanoprost) is often NOT used after intraocular surgery as it may increase inflammation and swelling in the macula. Home tonometry doesn't work for most people (scratched corneas, inaccurate readings, excess anxiety) discuss with the glaucoma specialist.
Avatar f tn My husband was diagnosed with glaucoma - don't know which 'type'...he's 75...as of tonite he's going to be using Lumigan, 1 drop nightly and tomorrow the ophalmologist will run required tests. We've known this physician for years and have complete trust in him.
Avatar n tn Many generics are not nearly as good as the brand names. For instance brominidine is not nearly as good as the glaucoma drop Alphagan-P but there are many that work as good as brand names. latanoprost is one of them. There are over 20 companies that make latanoprost. Studys have shown that some are underfilled and some produce drops that are so large that the bottle will not last the expected 6 weeks.
12845664 tn?1427483649 01% and found that these side effects were lowered. Still though Lumigan is more irritating for most people than latanoprost and Travatan Z. You should also look at how much money you save. Many of the new generics are not that much less expensive than the brand name. Thus you are more likely to have irritated symptoms with the generic than the brand name.
Avatar f tn should i be seeing an optomotrist physican for glaucoma.? he said he is qualified and any answers he does not know he can ask a glucoma doctor. he has a computer machine that takes a picture behind each eye and shows where there is damage so each time it's done the computer program will tell you if there is a change.
Avatar m tn The above is correct. Glaucoma medication are not part of a standard cataract operation. Their are some exceptions such has high intraocular pressure immediately after surgery. This might occur from incomplete remove of visco-elastics from the eye or a complicated operation. In any case the change of eye color occurs in less than 1 % of people and only after years on the medication. So you will not have the problem. Just FYI blue, grey, green and dark brown eyes are not affected.
Avatar n tn While I think I can provide some useful advice, there is obviously no cure for your problem and no easy answers. First the use of Lumigan. I really dislike Lumigan and try and never use it in my practice. It is notorious for causing red, irritated, inflammed eyes, permanent dark circles around the eyes and atrophy of the fat in the sockets causing sunk in looking eyes and droopy eye lids.
757137 tn?1347196453 It won't harm the eye or vision but side effects include redness and irritation on the eye and dark pigmentation around the edge of the lids. Plus the stuff is extremely expensive expect to pay about $120 per bottle. If you stop the meds they stop growning It works on most people, we've used it for years as lumigan for glaucoma. as with any medicine it doesn't work on everyone.
Avatar m tn At that time the Dr prescribed Lumigan drops which I used for 7 days and when I went in for the next visit (14 DAS), the pressure was fine and I was told I could stop the drops. I have had the pressure checked 2x since then and the pressure was fine. My question would be, in increased pressure following macular hole surgery common and wouldn't there have been some preventative treatment prior to the surgery to prevent the pressure increase??
Avatar m tn My mother age is 55yrs and she is diabetic patient from last 15+ yrs.Currently she is taking drops for Glaucoma. But her pressure is around 22 & 26 right and left eye resp. Her diabetes is also about 225 post meal. My concern is, is it safe to go for the surgery. Dr.said its not going to be laser, they'll do surgery and put a filter to drain out the fluid it will take around 2-3 hrs for operation.
Avatar m tn and neither is your glaucoma. SLT is generally very safe and is a primary treatment for people that have lots of trouble with drops( parkinson tremors, stroke paralysis, bad coordination and mentally incompetent such as Alzeimheimers.). The SLT is gnerally considered equal to one drop so even if you are treated and respond you likely will need to stay on xalatan.
Avatar f tn this is known as off labeling...where a drug is intended for one purpose but used for another....in this case insomnia......
Avatar m tn I am mastrubating for 20 years and used to use my hand to mastrubate and when the Penis does not stand I still mastrubate and ejaculate and I get the white semen, sometiems I do it 5 times a day and I have just plain liquid instead of sperm when I done this. Now I am married now and despirately need help and want to have kids, can some one tell me if I stop mastrubating totally how long will it take for my penis to get fixed ?
Avatar m tn Thanks, I am hoping that since my incident 40 years ago was much lighter force than typical, that I have a good chance that I won't have a "loose lens" situation. Glaucoma is bad enough. Since Tecnis now has some newer higher cylinder toric IOLs, I'm hoping one of them can compensate for my right eye's 2.75D cylinder. Is there any complications the glaucoma of the right eye can cause for cataract surgery?
