Common Questions and Answers about What is asacol ec

asacol

Avatar m tn I woke up and was told that I had an absolutely beautiful large intestine. The biopsies also came back normal. So my question here is what the hell? If there is no active disease will a biopsy come back with a normal result? If this is not Crohn's then what are the differentials. I also often have an itchy spot around my anus, bright red streaks of blood on occasion due to over whiping or hemmoroids and frequent canker sores in my mouth. Thanks for any help offered.
Avatar m tn m not sure that it is better than Asacol, but I think it is easier and equal in performance. You might ask your doctor if they have any prescription cards for Lialda. My doctor was given cards from Lialda, which you can use with your insurance. The cards allow you to never pay more than $25 for a month's supply of Lialda. Otherwise, it is extremely expensive. It will depend on your insurance on what it will cost, but before the card and after insurance, it was going to be $497 for me.
Avatar m tn Your daughter needs an immuno-suppressant if she is going to keep this incurable disease in remission and prevent bone problems. It is good she is starting on Remicade, which I have been on the last year...some 40 yrs later, but better late than never. Please try to get her gastro to wean her off steroids..they are a disaster. Take care, Liz.
Avatar f tn No, one ct with iv contrast was performed on my abdomen, the other ct was done on my lungs also with iv contrast, all normal. I've had uc for 8 years and this feels somewhat like a flare up but not totally,I started asacol three days ago it has helped with the pain on my right side and rectum ,and no my dr did not mention a colonoscopy. Also I've not had all symtoms of a flare so I'm not sure what is going on......... sorry it took so long to get back busy mom........
1483944 tn?1288100910 It has happened in the past, it is strange that he changed the diagnosis. Prednisone and Asacol and staple drugs in both Crohn's and colitis, and if you were put on them it makes sense that the doc saw inflammation when you were tested and diagnosed it as Crohn's. It could be that the medications were working and upon further testing the inflammation was reduced to the extent that the doctor felt the initial diagnosis was wrong, when in fact you were going into remission.
Avatar n tn I have noticed that my asacol is not breaking down and is being passed in my stool! Is their a reason for this? What can/should I do?
Avatar m tn I have a NEW G.I. doc who keeps referring me to a colonoscopy and an MRCP before she decides to do anything but I've had a flare-up of UC for a month and need some relief. Today I saw a whole Asacol HD tablet excreted and the G.I.doc said "that's ok--it's still absorbed." Ok--so now I must be reasonable and ask a question as how is it absorbed when NONE OF IT--repeat, NONE OF IT---is degraded at all? This woman doesn't get it. Anyway, what should I do now?
Avatar n tn Is there a program where my son can get help with his Rx for asacol? He does not have insurance.
Avatar m tn I have had of a false positive, but not 3! I'm off course not a Dr, but three tests coming out positive..I would say congrats!
89592 tn?1391274422 Have you had a biopsy? What labs make them think this is so? My labs are all normal but US said Fatty Liver which I believe is same as heterogeneous liver? I have been freaking out about Cirrhosis and have an appt tomorrow to discuss labs/US with Dr. Thanks!!
Avatar m tn The idea is to get off the steroids asap but make sure the bleeding is stopped. The other thing is to increase the Asacol right away to get the UC under control and adjust her dosage to manage it. If she is still having trouble then she needs to treat it from both ends, so get her GI to prescribe an enema nightly with her regular Asacol orally but it's very important to get her off the prednezone. It's bad taking it continuously.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the info...I was getting too anxious for the Asacol to work as this is day 5. I was worried that it could be Crohns Disease as My Brother died from Crohns. My Dr. said my Blood Markers did not show for Crohns...however, I am waiting on test results for Celiac. I appreciate your time, Thank You.
Avatar n tn While there isn't any concrete evidence that EC is hereditary, there is some speculation that a predisposition to Barret's might have a hereditary component. (It is also believed by some that while not everyone who gets Barrett's gets EC, everyone who gets EC had Barrett's.) As Ayri said, for peace of mind, having an EGD every two or three years is a prudent move. Also, following a GERD diet would be a very good idea.
Avatar n tn Had coloscopy in August-showed some mild inflammation in ilieum and rectal area-was put on Asacol. Asacol helped the rectal pain but RLQ pain continued. Went back to ED in Nov for severe RLQ pain. CT and bloodwork normal. I had changed from Asacol to Pentasa the week before and the rectal pain had come back-significant burning pain. Went to another doctor and had more bloodwork-borderline IBD tests. Went off Pentasa for a few days in Dec and had severe RLQ pain and right hand pain.
Avatar f tn It means you had discharge. White discharge is common in women pregnant or not, and the amount will vary depending on the female and where she is in her cycle. In regards to your other question, it can feel like your cycle will start but it doesn't mean it will. Watch and see what happens and if it does, more than likely it is due to the EC. Overall, you're still looking way too much into this. Most of all these are just everyday usual bodily functions.
Avatar f tn today my endoscopy is done doc said every thing is fine my something in my esophagus is more open which allow stomach acid to come up
Avatar f tn Hi. No, this is not really a risk for pregnancy. I wouldn't worry. But you will have strange periods and symptoms since you too emergency contraceptive. That is a big dose of hormones which is how it works. And it will mess you up for 2 to 3 months. You didn't need to take it but do admire your proactive stance on not getting pregnant. Buy some condoms for the future just in case. So, what you are experiencing is emergency contraceptive after math.
Avatar n tn There have been a few cases of liver failure possibly related to the use of mesalamine (the active ingredient in Asacol HD), but I haven't read anything about fatty liver as a side effect. A fatty liver, it takes between 6 months and 2 years to fully reverse. Dr Sandra Cabot's article "Fatty Liver - What Is Fatty Liver And How To Reverse It?
Avatar n tn Hi there and welcome. Well, sadly, I must tell you that you that there are NO safe days. What is EC?
1330108 tn?1333677304 I am doing EC with Ellie (elimination control Aka similar to potty training). I was wondering if anyone else has done it or is doing it.
Avatar f tn t been on a steroid since 2006, when he was diagnosed with Diabetes. The Steroids are more for the flares, the Pentasa is used more as a maintenance drug. He is also on Purinethol, which is chemotherapy agent, to help decrease abnormal growths. Good luck.
Avatar f tn m not exactly sure but I think I got my period. The whole point is, can it be possible for the contraceptive pill to cause a woman's period to come a week or two sooner?
