Avatar f tn And, since osteoporosis ( a disease characterized by reduced bone mass resulting in an increased risk for bone fractures), is common to many liver diseases, it is a good idea for all people with chronic liver disease to take a calcium supplement. Calcium supplementation should be limited to no more than 1000 to 2000 milligrams per day and should be taken with a vitamin D supplement ( which is usually included in the calcium tablet).

Avatar f tn It can be effective when used in the short term for boosting the immune system, but for the long term is usually taken by men. Cod liver oil can be useful for dry eyes and other things that fish oil isn't that good for, but if you're taking it as a fish oil then use fish oil. Why are you taking this particular group of supplements?

Avatar f tn However, in general, a healthy diet (low fat, fresh fruits and vegetables) is good for you, and if you are oversight, getting to a good BMI is beneficial for your overall health and a less fatty liver helps your liver work better. If you have cirrhosis, it is even more important to avoid medications, herbs, or supplements that are filtered through the liver and to avoid vitamins that have iron because it is hard on the cirrhotic liver. In general, people.

18514143 tn?1465888914 My question is this, does anyone here have any advice for other good supplements and vitamins for the liver and swelling. I have tried quite a few but the only ones that I seem to have good luck with and benefits from, are the few I listed, Serrapeptase, Curcumin (Turmeric) and Milk Thistle, along with Mega B Complex Vitamins. Any foods or other readily available, without a prescription solution that you all have found, I would be very interested in trying.

Avatar n tn Like Patches said, they will vary. Best thing you can do is be kind to your liver! NO alcohol if you can (I had to have help on that one); watch your acetaminophen usage; if you take vitamins, consider ones with no iron (often called 'mature multi-vitamins'); watch what you eat (don't want a fatty liver); and get some exercise.
Avatar f tn Thanks a ton for your valuable suggestion. Have fixed up an appointment with the doctor on Tuesday and another one on Wednesday, will update you on what they say. Have a fabulous weekend.
Avatar n tn Can anyone suggest proper liver support vitamins/minerals for one who is NOT on treatment? I know that A is toxic, D is toxic, E is toxic and so is K because they are all FAT soluble vitamins which are hard on the liver. D can be found in prescription formulary in a plant based formula/compound. I don't know why anyone would take vitamin K unless they've eaten rat poison or something.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your response, anything on exercise, should I avoid long walks or strenuos activity? & I had a biopsy last year the readings are confusing based on two different scales but ill dig it up and ask ur input later. Thanks again for a quick response. Good evening.
Avatar f tn My doctor is pleased that I eat a very healthy diet. I am just now 55 yrs.old. I have been taking Liv.52 for almost 1.5 years with vitamins. Liv.52 came highly recommended, but contains no Milk thistle. I would like to start taking Milk thistle, I have read about the recooperative abilities of SAMe and NAC regarding the liver. What may be the best combination of any or all of these four supplements to help and protect my liver now that I am sober. Thank you, babnair.
4726133 tn?1361989773 What kind of diet is good for your liver depends on how healthy your liver is whether or not you have hep C. Those with cirrhosis need to be on a stricter diet than those with little to no liver damage. WIth advanced liver disease it's important to avoid salt and red meat and iron.. Nowhere did I ever encounter anything saying sweets were bad, per se, for the liver. Main things to avoid are alcohol, and processed foods.
Avatar n tn Nervous function and muscular coordination requires the presence of B vitamins along with the vitamin E in good quantities within the body, any resulting or existing deficiencies in these vitamins will ensure weaknesses to overcome the musculature. Since nutrients such as the vitamin B12, the mineral calcium and the essential mineral magnesium are vital for nervous system, which in turn regulates muscles-these nutrients must also be taken in regular and consistent amounts with the diet.
