Avatar m tn the reason for this is unclear but one possible explanation given is that women may need higher intake of vitamin D because they tend to have a higher percentage of body fat than men and vitamin D is fat soluble. In addition, vitamin D intake during the study period, which ended in 2006, may have been too low to produce meaningful differences. A large trial giving 2,000 IU per day as a supplement is underway and may yield additional insights (principal investigator is J.E. Manson).
Avatar m tn You would definitely want to ask your doctor that question. I saw an article in a medical magazine in a hospital waiting room that said that the sperm are a bigger factor in health of a baby than previously realized. Smoking, drinking, poor sleep, poor diet, high stress, and toxins all take a toll on sperm, weakening them. I think it's a great question and worth researching.
628735 tn?1273875777 I read in an ADHD magazine today that new studies say that a supplement that is higher in Eph than Dha seems to show more results. Has anyone else read about this?
Avatar m tn http://the-scientist.com/2012/03/01/vitamin-d-on-trial/ Once a month for the next 5 years, 20,000 people across the United States will find a package containing 62 pills in their mailboxes. As participants in a clinical trial, the recipients agreed to swallow two of the pills daily. But inevitably as the years pass, some pill packets will become buried under a stack of letters, or forgotten in a drawer.

Avatar f tn At the very least, get some folic acid into your system. It's a B vitamin and helps the baby not have spina bifida. Look up sources of folic acid, you might have already been eating a lot of foods that contain it. It is also available as a vitamin pill (it's very small) and people take it for heart health, so it would not clue anyone that you are pregnant if you are trying to hide it.
Avatar m tn Should you do anything about taking more Vitamin D than you should have?
Avatar n tn With intrinsic factor, 56% of a 1 mcg dose of vitamin B12 is absorbed. However, if you exceed the capacity of intrinsic factor (between 1 and 2 mcg) the percentage of B12 absorbed is reduced. Approximately 10 mcg of B12 is absorbed from a 500 mcg supplement. A small percentage (1 to 3%) of vitamin B12 intake is absorbed through passive diffusion without intrinsic factor.
405614 tn?1329144114 I found a great article in AARP magazine (my roommate gets it) about mistakes doctors make, why they make them, and how to help yourself avoid these mistakes. All of us in limboland should be able to relate, and feel a little good that there is such an article in a national magazine. I hope you'll take the time to read it, and enjoy it as much as I did! http://www.aarpmagazine.org/health/why_doctors_make_mistakes.
Avatar f tn I have read that in theory, high doses of Vitamin C might be a bad idea as this vitamin 'boosts' the immune system. However I haven't come across any literature that proves it causes relapses in MS. It does seem to come up frequently that Vitamin D is good to take when one feels a cold or flu coming on. Vitamin D modulates (is that the right word?) the immune system as opposed to 'boosting' it. Again, I've never seen a study on this angle specfically.
Avatar m tn I was excited to see this in the recent edition of 'CURE' magazine I received today. It looks like they have already donated over 2 million to finding a cure. Very impressive since it's not one of those 'popular' cancers that get all the funding! http://www.callawaygolf.com/Global/en-US/Corporate/CallawayGolfFoundationWomensCancerInitiative.
1819938 tn?1317140687 Although headaches and dizziness can also be caused by many other possible reasons as well, such as from your diet, caffeine use, vitamin deficiency, hormonal changes, sensory stimuli, changes in sleep patterns, changes in the environment, and so on. It can be very hard to pinpoint where the symptoms are coming from. If you feel very stressed out, make sure to take some "me time" and have a long bath, take a nice walk, or do something else to help relax and feel better.
1722607 tn?1335747858 Milk thistle (silymarin) in a recent study has been shown to have no effect of liver health, by the way. Kava kava, vitamin A in high doses, mistletoe, germander and European barberry can all be toxic to the liver. If you have a vitamin deficiencies you can be tested for it and add a vitamin to your diet. Such as Vitamin D if you have a low level in your blood. Supplements can interact with the new antiviral drugs so should not be used. Before starting treatment.
Avatar n tn Hi Welcome to the MedHelp forum! Either you are about to break into viral fever or you have hypothyroidism, diabetes, VIT B12 deficiency or you have not been eating properly and hence have hypoglycemia attacks. Eat well, drink plenty of fluids and get these disorders tested. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Take care!
Avatar n tn However, I am also 28, and therefore anything I use may not be appropriate for a child. There is a vitamin set called the Diabetes Health Pack that has a multi-vitamin, lutein, Vitmin C, Vitamin E, and some other vitamins, and I have noticed that the E may actually be causing problems. Vitamin C made my BG's run higher than usual, which would be good if they were continuously too low. The best thing I found was a regular multi-vitamin for women and Flaxseed oil.
Avatar n tn yes , my blood sugar is ok
Avatar f tn Has anyone read the article in last month's issue of FIRST magazine about chronic sinus inflamation? They are suggesting to put a capsaicin extract in your nasal rinse for better results - I am wondering if anyone has tried it? I am going to take the article to my Allergist this week and see what he says. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn Just read about Osteo K with 45 MG of Vitamin K. Is this a good and safe alternative for Fosamax?
Avatar f tn Thank you so much Platelet. Great job!
Avatar n tn I am presently taking Zetia every other day. I also take Omega 3/6, vitamin A,E. With Zetia interfere with the absorption of the benefits of these supplements and if so what can I do to get the full benefit of Zetia and the supplements, if anything. Ar there any other supplements that should be avoided while taking Zetia? Many thanks.
