29837 tn?1414534648 Last night on 20/20, they were shouting the benefits of Vitamin D. My doctor insists I stay on a supplement of 800mg daily, even though I take a daily multiple vitamin with 400mg Vitamin D. This brings it up to 1200mg daily. Research has shown it helps the body in many ways. However, be careful of too much Vitamin D. Below is a snippet from the informative link... Avatar n tn muscle weakness, joint pain, upper respiratory infectikns resemble the symptoms of malabsorption of Vitamin A,D, E and K. Our bodies need cholestorol to help coat our nerves and help with brain function and it naturally increases as we get older, so why are we trying to lower it, could this be why we are seeing so many people with dementia?
Avatar f tn I take a multivitamin and Vitamin D. None really help MS but your over all health. MSers are not immune to other health problems. It makes life easier if you have few health problems. That is why I am big on a good diet and exercise. When I was first diagnosed I felt these were things I could control. My doctor says I am the healthiest MS and Cancer patient she has seen. No one would know I have either. I also do mindfulness meditation.
Avatar f tn Common practice among physicians is apparently 800-1000 ius of Vitamin D a day for good health. The single Fosamax pill has 5600 ius of D. Will this one pill suffice for my D intake all week and is it all right to have it all at once instead of single pills every day?
Avatar f tn I agree with the above posts.....my doc had me on 4,000IU when mine went low,,,I am on chemo right now and I am afraid the D might interfere with the meds so I bought a tanning bed for my home and this way I just have to sit under the light every other day and get 20,000IU real quick.
Avatar m tn Fortunately, nutrition, including increases in both unsaturated fat and vitamin E intake and vitamin B-6, is becoming a viable way to help protect against PD. Avatar n tn I tested my vitamin D level. What do my results mean? I just picked the last two levels since the article is very long.... "My level is between 100-150 ng/ml Although these levels aren’t toxic and aren’t usually harmful, they are thought to be too high. There are no known benefits to having a vitamin D level over 100 ng/ml.
Avatar m tn I'm a healthy 33 year old male. For about two weeks I've been experiancing numbness that started in my right hand and arm and now is completely down my right side into my toes, completely around my mid section, and I'm now starting to feel tingling in the tips of my left pinky and ring ringer and left thigh. I've seen my GP and a Neurologist and they've run a bunch of blood and urin tests and only have been able to say that my vitamin D levels are low.
Avatar m tn 2666 iu, Vitamin D: 200 iu and Vitamin E: only 3 iu. I thought it was an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients of cod liver oil So I took an over the counter Anti-Histamine (i.e; Loratadine 10mg). It is a magic pill at least in my case, I took one a day for two days and the itching disappeared. I thought that my condition was normalised so I switched back to my old Multi Vitamin formula that I had used before without any side effects.
Avatar m tn Hi. I'm dealing with low vitamin D myself after recently discovering it is low. I've been supplementing for quite a while before learning that I'm low. Going to pick up portabello & shiitake mushrooms until my visit with GP. If I learn anything of value I'll share it here. It is said not to shower for 24 hours after sun exposure for full absorption of Vit D.
Avatar f tn SN It is likely that it was always a problem, but the data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey indicate that the mean serum level of 25-OH vitamin D has decreased over the last 2 decades. It may be that the more severe vitamin D deficiency is only now coming to light. .
1583834 tn?1296685960 Low vitamin D may cause MS ( jury is still out) but once you have MS vitamin D is not going to help MS. That said a balanced diet is good for over all health. I have had all my vitamin level, glucose, cholesterol etc. and they are all great because I have a good diet an exercise. If you have MS you want your over all health to be good.
Avatar f tn From my research, and the ailments, it appears my problem has been a continual low or none Vitamin D all along. Tests come back with no Vitamin D or very little. I ran out in the sun, with no sunscreen and now I garden, so Vitamin D should not be an issue, but it is. When I don't have enough Vitamin D, I get mouth sores (not herpes). I take Vitamin D, for two days they are gone, and then come back, until I take my next round of D once a week.
