I MAY have contracted HSV 1 genitally. I had previously had blood tests done which showed that I have HSV 1, but not HSV 2 (I've had cold sores). As of a week ago, I woke up with very red patches on the inside of my foreskin. Went to the doctor, he swabbed it and it came back as negative for HSV 1. I took one day's worth of Valtrex and by the next morning, it looked as though the red patch was nearly gone. I stopped taking the Valtrex as of then.
Just because one has herpes doesn't mean that EVERYTHING is herpes related. Quite honestly swollen/painful gums are not symptomatic of herpes at all. Blisters/lesions are.

I started taking Valtrex for Herpes2, and I feel anxious,depressed, and I have been waking up with bad headaches in the middle of the night. I don't know if it is all in my head, because I just tested postive for this, and I have been dealing with this for about 15 yrs. I am still shocked. Initial gential herpes symptoms rarely if ever more than 2-3 weeks, especially when taking valacyclovir (Valtrex). It is very rare for herpes to not respond to valacyclovir. I wonder whether you now have a yeast infection, which can follow herpes (or any other genital area inflammation.

I have had an IgG blood test done and it came back positive for HSV-1 which I think I have in the genital area. Because of my symtoms and my extreme depression the doctor agreed to put me on Valtrex before the results came back.
I stayed on it as supressive because the test results took a long time to come back almost a month. When the doctor told me it was HSV-! and not HSV-2 I went off the Valtrex and feel the symptoms returning.
lysine isn't effective for herpes. also no such thing as a herpes diet either. both were disproven many, many years ago.
what testing have you had so far? Are they testing you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally?
have you had a new partner in the last 17 years? have you been retested for herpes to know if you have contracted hsv2 or not?
odds really are that this is not just a herpes issue going on so all the antivirals in the world won't help if it isn't.
It is very unusual for someone with HSV 1 in one location of their body to transfer it later to another part of their body. I have not seen, in 30 years of practice, this happening. The reason is that the immune system, on alert for HSV 1, keeps this from happening. I certainly don't think this happened to you either. You have further proof from a negative swab test done by one of your doctors.
What are the odds of passing the disease on to a new partner since so many more people are exposed to HSV-1 as children? Is valtrex an effective treatment for HSV-1. I have only had 1 outbreak ( the original one in Feb) and I am currently not taking anything. However, I would begin some sort of treatment if it helped to stop this disease from spreading.
I do experience what I believe to be nerve pain in my thighs. Is it possible for a primary ghsv 1 breakout to last this long without any "classic" symptoms? Has anybody had an experience similar to this and what has your experience with ghsv 1 been? Does it seem to be as mild as most studies and doctors suggest? You can apply the h balm to active lesions if you want. Probably a tingle when you first apply it but if it's painful ( to me there's a difference between a tingle that lasts a minute or two and pain that makes you want to rip your crotch out ), rinse it off and discontinue it's use.
Need to say, three months after my last encounter with him, I got a type specific igg blood test. It came back positive for HSV 1 and negative for HSV 2. I knew it would be hSV 1 positive because I've had fever blisters on my mouth in the past. SOOO....my question is, how did I get this? Did I get it from receiving oral from him and he might of had a fever blister at the time? I don't remember.
I have just started valtrex again (the first time had weird sides, but was also taking another medicine). My herpes outbreaks cause weird back pain, distension, gas, bloat! I have a hard time accessing the proper muscles in the pelvic floor region to have a bowel movement and feel as though I am constipated even though there is no form to my stool. I will try taking 500mg twice a day to start and see how it goes.
I have read at least two studies about Valtrex 500 mg reducing the risk of transmission of Herpes Gladiatorum in high school wrestlers, and since Herpes Gladiatorum is a form of HSV-1, I would assume that 500 mg of Valtrex would work for suppressing oral outbreaks and transmission as well.

My OB is telling me she would like for me to take Valtrex starting at 34 weeks, but I am very nervous about this as it seems a bit too agressive given my history. Do I have the option of not taking it? What are your recommendations? What are my risks? Also, I am planning on breastfeeding, so how would taking Valtrex affect the baby? t going to be a suprise she said. My blood test showed antibodies for hsv-1 but not for hsv-2. This doctor concluded it was most likely a genital hsv-1 infection. I went on Valtrex and it really did help my symptoms.
Three years later, I still have daily irritation. Tingling, aching, discharge, odor, irritated skin and rectal irritation are present on a daily basis. However, the Valtrex seems to reduce the intensity of all of these symptoms.
