Diagnosed with shingles Wednesday night - went to doctor same day symptoms started as they were significant. Started Valtrex. Have bumps on lower back near sciatic nerve on left side and on left thigh following nerve line. Entire thigh dull to touch but high pain (throbbing, etc). Pain on site at back. Also high pain, burning on left hip, stomach, behind knee. Friday morning noticed third patch of bumps on thigh (more inward) and an increase of bumps on first set of thigh bumps.
The primary outbreak was intense but lasted about a week. Seven months later, I had one that drove me out of my mind with pain and wouldn't go away despite medication for many months...I think about six months. Since then, I have only had mild short outbreaks that were barely noticable until August 26 of this year. I tried to ride it out for the first month then got on Valtrex.
Stomach pain, mood changes, and for four months still having problems down below without breakouts, just pain, front and back, vagina and anus pain, I have had several people tell me Lysine is just as helpful as Valtrex and wondered if anyone has had these problems and has ever used Lysine for genital herpes.
Herpes absolutely causes low back pain, buttock pain and leg pain below the buttocks. I have had herpes since 1989 and I ALWAYS know when an outbreak is imminent because of these symptoms. Know your body and pay attention to the ailments that immediately precede an outbreak. Unfortunately it seems I know more about the virus than any of the doctors that have treated me do. And they don't seem interested in learning, only prescribing expensive Valtrex. SMH.
Symptoms started after receiving unprotected oral sex which include stinging at the opening of my penis, tingeling sensation- redness and inflamation, and pain at the tip- no burning during urination ever- and never any open sores- at times it does look like there is a TINY dark red circular spot that appears but then goes away however the redness/ irritaion is constant.

If he's positive for HSV 2, I'll discontinue the med. If he's negative I will keep taking it. I have had chronic dizziness, brain fog, feelings if unreality, and severe ear pain- feels like burning aching sensation. All I have for a diagnosis is that one test out of 4 was positive for ebv- the IGG, suggesting a recent infection. I have felt theses symptoms for 3 months. Anyone have success with valtrex alleviating symptoms ?My Dr. prescribed it for 1 week. I also take desipramine (TCA) and have not had any relief from that yet either. It has been 2 weeks.
I did not receive any noticeable OB, just some white looking spots on my outer lip below surfice and some sores inside my lips, sore gums and the roof of mouth. I feel some pain in the very tip of my penis and have recently begun to feel slight pain in my right testicle.
I was tested for HSV-1 type specific approximately one month after initial contact. Results were negative. What should be my next step? Should I wait another month for another blood test? Continue with Valtrex?
I've read some posts on the internet that someone with a healthy immune system is less likely to have outbreaks is there any truth to that? Should I take immune system boosters? I have HSV2 and have never officially had an outbreak but have neuralgia on the back of my leg. I started taking Valtrex a couple months after the leg pain continued and it went away. I'm just trying to make sure I am taking all the precautions on my part to avoid spreading and having any recurring symptoms.
And are there very mild rashes sometimes, but considerable pain? I have been having pain, sharp and stabbing sometimes, but skin that feels like it is burned. I have a few small blisters on my back under the shoulder blade, then one under my right breast, and one on my nipple. They have been there for about a week, and are itchy, sore and red at times. But I am having pain that comes and goes in the band between the back and around to the breast. Could this be shingles?
From time to time I try stopping the Valtrex and the virus seems to come back in the form of swollen, painful gums. Each time I stop Valtrex, it seems to take longer for the virus to reappear but it always reappears in the form of swollen and painful gums. I had this same symptom (although much more severe) when I initially contracted the infection together with fever and lesions on the penis and testicles and one strange lesion on my lower stomach.
I have been on valtrex for suppression of hsv 2 for 16yrs and continue to have outbreaks almost monthly. Sores in vaginal area are less noticeable but other symptoms such as fatigue, headache, swollen glands, back pain still persist. My husband and I both have an outbreak every time we have sex which is ruining our sex life. Long term effects of valtrex use is unknown outside of possible renal/liver imparement & I'm just not sure if I should continue taking it.
Well, on one hand you are saying that the only that helps you is Valtrex and on the other, you're saying shouldn't Valtrex take care of it if is herpes. I've given you my opinion on all of this. If you believe it is herpes and Valtrex makes it better, then I am not in a position to try to convince you of anything else. If you have eye problems, you should see an eye doctor as soon as possible.

I have been taking Valtrex regularly for 2 months and I have been taking 1 gram of Valtrex steadily for 2 weeks, and it is not going away. Valtrex has always worked quickly when I have had outbreaks in the past. The symptoms of this lesion (itchiness or soreness) come and go. What could be causing this? Could it be something other than herpes? Could the Valtrex be harmful to my baby? I go to the doctor again, soon, but want to be armed with all the inform. I can.
t seem to be helping with suppression or symptoms and it upsets my stomach. I am still in pain after 1.5 weeks, the area feels hot, prickly sometimes and my right groin lymph node seems enlarged. Still no sores. I should mention that since I initially realized I may have autoinnoculated myself, I have been depressed, stressed, crying all the time and often not eating.
Hi, A few years ago my girlfriend was sick and laying on the couch all day and was really out of it and seemed to be in a lot of pain. I had never seen her like that. She said she was experiencing stomach problems. I noticed a new prescription bottle for her with the name Acyclovir. I suspected maybe it was causing her stomach problems so I looked it up online. I was surprised to learn that it's primary use was for treating Herpes.
Hi nic - Why do you think it's your hsv1 that's causing your RA? Are you sure it's RA and not something else that's causing your pain? I don't mean to discount any of your pain or experiences, but there are a lot of things that cause pain, and I just want to make sure you aren't missing anything by focusing on herpes instead of something else.
Herpes causing RA can happen, but it's thought to be rare, so make sure you aren't missing another cause.
I noticed a cold sore on my lip this morning, I took (2) grams (pills) of Valtrex on a empty stomach. I have headache, nausea, lightheaded, diarrhea, and can't function. How long will this last? when do I need to see a doctor? these are huge pills, wear off soon?
Anyway, With 2000mg a day of Valacyclovir rushing through my system I have no soares. But have some nerve pain and burning and sourness throughout one side of my private parts, and down my inner leg. The leg area is brand new for me. The other area is not, but never has it continued so long (with or without medication) as it has now.
For most of my life I got Valtrex from a long time on and off again girl friend. We believe we contracted it together.
Now i stopped taking valtrex and i get a mild pain in armpits after i shave a week ago and had a lump on my right arm almost sure it is lymph node from what im reading in the internet. The lump is 1cm not big at all but it hurts. This was last week thursday, i applied warm water and stopped shaving and took a valtrex and a keflex, the next day the bump went down and the right armpit is so much better.
m probably infected with most likely Herpes-2, and that the Valtrex supressed any blisters, but not the other symptoms, and that the hives (past) and upset stomach are due to the Herpes, which some people have suggested they could be.
Of course, I've had a history of producing symptoms where there are none to be had before, including massive pains, hot flashes, night sweats, chills, fatigue, etc.
Either way, I'm tortured by anxiety.
