Avatar n tn Yesterday, Saturday, 12/26, we went to an Emergency Clinic. There the doctor said she did have Shingles. She prescribed Valacyclovir 10 mg tablets, her anti-viral, takes three per day for seven days, also prescribed Mupirocin 2% for the blisters and Hydrocodone/APAP, SMG/325mg Tabs for pain. Recommended if pain is unbearable to go to the ER for possible admitance to Hospital and intravenious pain care. So far she has slept a lot. Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn I am 18 years old and was Diagnosed with Shingles on June 22nd after noticing the rash on my back. Since I started taking valacyclovir 3 times a day at 500mg my Shingles has started to get better and clear up. However just today I have started to get a new more painful (Then my initial Shingles) feeling of burning on my right side just around my armpit. Is it normal for new a new rash to start when I have been consistently taking the anti virals? Should I go see my doctor again about this?
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing all-over-body nerve tingling for about 10 months now, after a strangely over the top outbreak of cold sores (HSV1) on my chin, nose & upper lip - the nerve tingling happens: scalp, ears, eyelids, nose, temples, armpits, arms, hands, groin, knees, feet, all over the place. Normally, throughout my teenage years, I would just get a single cold sore on one lip, thought nothing of it, but this outbreak had multiple small spots, lasted longer, and they were quite painful.
Avatar m tn Thank you for you response. It helped me to take the oral HIV test(OraQuick) and it came out Negative.I understand that Shingles has nothing to do with HIV. But Just wanted to check if I can relay on OraQuick result for HIV or do I need to go through the Blood test for HIV?
Avatar n tn The following antiviral medications are given in some cases for shingles Acyclovir, Famciclovir, or Valacyclovir, to reduce the pain and the duration of shingles.
Avatar m tn He prescribed valacyclovir (assuming this was shingles). I asked for a PCR and he instructed me to go to urgent care as his office didn’t have this test.I went to urgent care and the doctor there said he thought it was some kind of allergic reaction (he asked if it could be poison ivy) or dermatitis. He did not think it was shingles (as part of the lesion present both on the left and right side) and didn’t think it was HSV.
Avatar m tn Testing for the shingles virus may be helpful. As I already said, this is unlikely to be shingles.
Avatar m tn I had shingles as a young adult. When I get a runny nose I sometimes get a sore on my nose when I wipe too much. Is that a cold sore? Even if it isnt, if I engage in oral sex with a woman (regardless if theses are cold sores or not), can I transfer herpes virus to her? My current partner has just been diagnosed with HSV-1 on her genitals and I fear that I am the culprit. She did have another partner a few months ago, but developed symptoms a few days after we engaged in oral sex.
Avatar n tn If 3 docs say its zoster then its pretty definitely zoster. The valtrex dose given by Londres is correct for the time when the outbreak is present. In my country Valtrex is not licensed for suppression of zoster. You are taking the dose that suppresses the majority (but not all )of simplex outbreaks. The dose to treat zoster is higher than the dose to treat simplex, so I am guessing that the dose to suppress zoster may be higher than the dose to suppress simplex.
Avatar m tn I went to my doctor, he said he thought it was shingles. He prescribed Valacyclovir. I had actually put Cortisone on it starting a couple nights ago and this seemed to help a little. I have been in a monogamous relationship for several months. Both my girlfriend and I were tested for STD's about 3 months ago - including HSV IGG test - and were clear.
Avatar n tn How much valacyclovir are you taking? The dose recommended for shingles is higher than the dose recommended for herpes. 1.0 gram (1000 mg) three times daily for zoster.
Avatar m tn Fluid from my right eye was removed and much blood as well, and sent to the lab for various tests. The tests concluded that I had shingles and that I had no underlying condition to cause it. My immune system is absolutely fine so the etiology is unkown, but the theory is that it was caused by Prednisone that I had taken for poison ivy. Treatment consisted of valacyclovir 6,000 mg/day for several months, and finally on my last appt., about 4 months ago, I was clear.
Avatar n tn No, neither the shingles nor the valacyclovir will influence your test results or your antibody response EWH

Avatar n tn I was diagnosed of Shingles. The virus was around my right eye, on my eyelids, forehead and scalps. 2/17/10: Knowing the seriousness of this virus and being concerned about my vision, I immediately went to see an Ophthamologist. According to him fortunately, there was no infection in my eye yet. My vision was 20/20, eye pressure was normal and the cornea looked good as well. 2/24/10: I visited the doctor again, and everything was fine too.
Avatar f tn continue to stay off the valacyclovir for the time being; and if and when you have apparent recurrent outbreaks of either oral or genital herpes, have the lesions promptly tested by PCR.
Avatar f tn I was prescribed 1g valacyclovir (3 times a day) for 7 days as well as ibuprofen for the pain. Within the first day of taking the medication, I saw significant results in the affected areas. They had started to dry and crust over and heal. And I was happy. Fast forward to now, almost two months later, and I have what seems to be a recurrence of the same symptoms in the exact same areas.
Avatar f tn I've had herpes for over 25 years. Initial outbreak on lower back and since then on lower back and buttocks. I take valacyclovir when I get the first sign. My question is how contagious am I? I noticed a little red bump on my buttock last night and took a pill right away. There were no blisters. About 2 hours later my boyfriend may have touched it with his hand. How worried should I be? I read in Terri Warren's brochure that herpes on the thick skin may not shed.
Avatar n tn Is there anything I can do at this point to determine if I had shingles vs herpes? My primary doc suggested taking another blood test for antibodies in two months. If the conclusion is to be to tested in a few months, when is the earliest date I could/should test for the antibodies to get an accurate result? Is hand holding, hugging, sleeping together (non-sexually or sexually minus kissing) safe? What would be your prognosis? Thank You.
