I am 18 years old and was Diagnosed with Shingles on June 22nd after noticing the rash on my back. Since I started taking valacyclovir 3 times a day at 500mg my Shingles has started to get better and clear up. However just today I have started to get a new more painful (Then my initial Shingles) feeling of burning on my right side just around my armpit. Is it normal for new a new rash to start when I have been consistently taking the anti virals? Should I go see my doctor again about this?
What is the normal dosage of valacyclovir for suppression? I have read several places say 500 mg some say 1000. What is right or normal dosage?
Yesterday, Saturday, 12/26, we went to an Emergency Clinic. There the doctor said she did have Shingles. She prescribed Valacyclovir 10 mg tablets, her anti-viral, takes three per day for seven days, also prescribed Mupirocin 2% for the blisters and Hydrocodone/APAP, SMG/325mg Tabs for pain. Recommended if pain is unbearable to go to the ER for possible admitance to Hospital and intravenious pain care. So far she has slept a lot. Thanks for your help.

Would you double the valacyclovir dosage or at least up it? What about for long-term suppressive therapy? If someone could in particular elucidate how valacyclovir works and WHY it would be important/ unimportant to adjust that dosage based on wanting to suppress both conditions, you would have my eternal thanks.
I talk valacyclovir for herpes out breaks I have a high dosage one for when I get them it doesn't harm the baby.
Though this is my first pregnancy and I'm 7 weeks.
They told me once I get closer to my due date to take them daily so there is no break out.

I had an sexual unprotected with a woman whom I met on a day and she looked healthy.It was in the year 1999. Also I had multiple unprotected sex with my girl friend( who is ex now) in the year 2001. I enquire about my ex girl friend and she seems to be happily married and having kids.(Not sure if she tested or not).
After that I married in 2002 and have a 7 years old kid. My wife and kid doesn't have any symptoms.
this case of shingles early, having experienced what the beginning of shingles was like for me. However, when I was to see another different doctor due to being out of town...he and the PA said I was probably misdiagnosed for having shingles. This is because they firmly believe that shingles cannot be contracted on both sides of the body, as well as the fact that I now get the hives on my back and the eventually blistering pustules at the same time.
m getting mixed messages in eagards to Valtrex dosages during an outbreak. I currently take 500 mg of Valacyclovir daily as a suppressant. But I am still having outbreaks. When having one do I increase my dosage? I asked my doctor and she said no since it was already in my system just continue taking the 500mg daily.
Also it seems since I've gotten the diagnosis, that I'm having more outbreaks, could it be I need a stronger daily dosage for suppression?
I have read that Valtrex and Valacyclovir can be used for the suppression of herpes , does that hold true for Valcivir also,, isn't Valacyclovir the generic of Valciver ,, if yes what is the usual dosage for the suppression of the virus?

I went to the dermatologist today and he at first said he thought it was the start of shingles. Then he said it also could be HSV, but he would think shingles is more likely. He also said that it’s possible it’s some kind of dermatitis or allergy. I also have a small lesion on the left side of my neck that is red with small dots inside (this he said could be related but not sure). He prescribed valacyclovir (assuming this was shingles).
On 500 mg of suppressive therapy (Valacyclovir), but getting outbreaks a few times a year; itching, burning, sore throat, headache, crack in/on tip of nose (which is most persistent symptom). As soon as it got better , just yesterday i again had a small ulcer again, ... So i went to Pharmacy and they didn;t had any 500mg valcyclovir so i bought 300mg again as the doctor pescribed first time. Is it low dosage? I am confused why doctor game me 300mg as its written in initial outbreak dosage is 1000mg ....
Last year around Christmas time I was diagnosed with shingles. It was attacking the back of the eye causing chorioretinitis, and I also presented with a rash on both sides of my body and essentially from head to toe, but there was never any clear indication that it was related. Fluid from my right eye was removed and much blood as well, and sent to the lab for various tests. The tests concluded that I had shingles and that I had no underlying condition to cause it.
