Avatar m tn The number of episodes per person-year did not differ significantly for standard-dose valaciclovir (22·6) versus high-dose aciclovir (20·2; p=0·54), and standard-dose valaciclovir (14·9) versus high-dose valaciclovir (16·5; p=0·34), but did for no medication (28·7) and standard-dose aciclovir (10·0; p=0·001). . . 80% of episodes were subclinical in all study groups.
Avatar f tn he was prescribed aciclovir and valaciclovir both at 200mg every 8 hours for 30 days. From what I have read so far it seems that it is usually one or the other not both. He was able to obtain the aciclovir but not able to find valaciclovir anywhere in Cuba at this time...should the one be enough for the first outbreak...and perhaps controlling any future outbreaks should he use the valaciclovir??

Avatar n tn On a physical exam he diagnosed genital herpes and took a swab (results still awaited). The doctor also put me on Valaciclovir tablets twice daily for 5 days. When I showed the doctor I did notice that there is a like a single yellow blister, although it is generally reddish and that immediate area was slightly painful.
Avatar n tn FIrst iritis is often hard to diagnosis in the early stages and resembles conjunctivitis. Use the search feature and read about iritis also google "iritis emedicine" and read in entirety. The steroid drops used to treat iritis can make a lid droop and the lid can also droop to protect the eye from bright lights (called guarding ptosis). Both of these usually improve with time (6 weeks after stopping all drops).
Avatar m tn Generally do not use together and shut eye and block tear duct with index finger for 3-5 minutes and wipe away excess. Read side effects in drug information.
Avatar n tn sometime afterwards my pupils are dilated and look fine, but sometimes they shrink in size afterwards and look terrible.i have done some research on this and i was wondering if its because im putting too much in?,if you put too much in do they shrink? am i not suppose to be in a bright room for a certain amount of time? what im asking you is how do i achieve maximum dilation instead of my eyes being small and looking like i am on drugs?
Avatar n tn altering the dosage of the maxidex i was signed off. Then i noticed that my eyelid was red and swollen so went back to the doctors again! And she said i could be allergic to the maxidex so she told me to stop & gave me allergy eye drops. But the eyelid swelling has come down, my eye still feels uncomfortable & my left eye now seems smaller than before, so not sure what is going on. Thanks.
Avatar m tn There was recent studies showing hpylori causing flare ups and that was found positive and treated but the iritis still persisted. The iritis specialist suspects herpes simplex causing the iritis but he mentioned there is no way to be 100% certain short of poking needles in the eye for a sample. He did put me on acyclovir but that did not help prevent flare ups so I chose to stay on the drops and not oral meds.
Avatar f tn Thank you so much. I glad that people like you are here and can help and support people. I will try valaciclovir tablets at first , hope will help :)... also eating lot of vitamins.
Avatar m tn The doctor gave me an injection of phosphonic acid potassium sodium for 7 days, and ate valaciclovir hydrochloride for 1 month, and used a-interferon . I respectively took the blood test on October 10th, November 18th and December 16th in the same hospital with T-reagent ,the results was the same as igg-1 positive,igm-1 negative,igg-2 negative,igm-2 negative.
Avatar n tn I've recently gone to the eye Dr and a Rheumatoid Dr. for what I was told was Iritis. Of course the redness was gone and the pain was lessened, but I got no answer. They just asked me "who told you, you have Iritis? The pain started about 5 years ago with just redness in the left eye and only on the outside part of the eye up to the colored part. It remains that way for about a week then recedes back. It was like that for about a year. I had no pain during that time.
Avatar n tn Our daughter has had iritis off and on for the last two years. It's happening more often now. . . . She is in college and working in a restaurant and does "stress" about school and finances. She was tested for several auto immune disorders, one of which was ankylosing spondylitis. All the results were negative. She was a soft contact wearer for many years. No doctor EVER saw any evidence of iritis in all the years she was seen by eye doctors.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I am a 25 year old female and I have been dealing with Anterior Uveitis for about 15 months now. Let me start by giving you a time line of events that I feel are significant, but have been blown off by the eye DR's I have seen. It started in Dec '06 when I started to get severe migrane headaches every day, starting from behind my RIGHT eye. I went to see a DR about them and was told to take OTC meds and sent for an MRI.
Avatar f tn I do have blue/green colored eyes and yes, after looking up iritis I do believe this is what my dr. is treating me for, though he did not state this. A white/cloudyness came on and covered my eye about a month ago, went away and then started up again over two days bringing me to the point yesterday where it became completely cloudy. Thank you for putting a name to it....it allowed me to do some research and understand what's going on. Thank you again.
5987839 tn?1381922502 I started a new thread, primarily because I just need support more than anything this time around ... I had Iritis 3 yrs ago, and when I got Optic Neuritis last year and was ultimately dx w/ MS ... my MS doc didn't think the Iritis was related. I have Iritis again this week .. and I'm scared. And upset. And confused. And pissed. Thoughts in my head: Do I have something else? Lupus? RA? Lyme? .... and .. do I *really* have MS? Was it a mis-diagnosis?
Avatar f tn I rushed back to my LASER centre and they diagnosed me with bilateral iritis and claim that this was not triggered by LASIK. I have had no eye inflammation or infection before LASIK. Although, I am awaiting blood work results for RA I am scared to death if something is wrong with me. What is the difference between bilateral iritis and Uveitis? How will I know which one I have? I am currently on a tapered course of Pred Forte.
Avatar f tn No they are used to treat the iritis and prevent the iris from scarring to the lens of the eye. Call the ophthalmologist and see if you can get in ASAP as this is a serious problem. Ask the Eye MD about Durezol a new steroid drop that works fantastically well for iritis/uveitis.
Avatar n tn Talking to other people with crohns disease, they say I may have iritis. I have mentioned it to doctors and they just shrug it off.
Avatar f tn I was referred to an eye surgeon, who said I had inflamation of the iris...and after 6 weeks of treatment, it finally felt better. I was in contact with the eye clinic where the test was performed and they said that they have 'never heard of anyone' who has had a problem with that test...and said they even went online searching to see if anyone else had reported it. I have no doubt this over testing caused my problem...
Avatar n tn I have also had the shots and uveietis in my left eye. For 6 years they could not get it under control. Finally, We tried Valtrex. I have shingles in my left eye. Iritis also. I use predforte whenever the eye acts up. But I will take Valtrex for the rest of my life.
Avatar f tn Mainly your symptoms list could be caused by many different medical issues but Iritis is inflammation of the iris and it is associated some specific medical conditions eg Ankylosing Spondylitis, Reiter syndrome, Sarcoidosis, IBS, Lyme disease, Tuberculosis, Toxoplasmosis, Syphilis, Herpes simplex, Herpes zoster etc and worth considering.... Hope that helps.....
Avatar f tn Background. Have had limited rosacea on face for years. Over the past couple years,I've been exposed to someone who had a 'dormant' cold sore, and exposed to someone who had uveitis or iritis (not knowing it was probably triggered by a virus). My rosacea is getting worse with lesions on the nose. Putting topical finacea clears up one area, but the itchy redness creeps past the treated area and I now have ocular rosacea.
Avatar f tn As I am doing research, there seems to be some concern with a phakic IOL and chronic iritis. I have had bouts of iritis for the past 3 years, all the tests come back negative, so its been labeled idiopathic, but I can pretty much guarantee to get iritis if I am stressed. Is iritis still treatable with this phakic IOL in my eye? 2. The surgeon said he will have to take out the stitches. How is that done? Do I have to basically have surgery again? How long will stitches be in my eye?
Avatar f tn I advise my iritis patients to avoid contacts and my glaucoma patients (if moderate or severe) to avoid lasik.
