he was prescribed aciclovir and valaciclovir both at 200mg every 8 hours for 30 days. From what I have read so far it seems that it is usually one or the other not both. He was able to obtain the aciclovir but not able to find valaciclovir anywhere in Cuba at this time...should the one be enough for the first outbreak...and perhaps controlling any future outbreaks should he use the valaciclovir??

On a physical exam he diagnosed genital herpes and took a swab (results still awaited). The doctor also put me on Valaciclovir tablets twice daily for 5 days. When I showed the doctor I did notice that there is a like a single yellow blister, although it is generally reddish and that immediate area was slightly painful.

Went to doctors, he gave me Doxycycline + Valaciclovir + cream to put on wound - Tuesday/Wednesday (same week): foreskin wound starts to heal. - Thursday (same week): clear sign of healing - Friday (same week): looks almost healed with pink/reddish new skin (shines when light on it) but a yellow tip (very small) that looks like pus (but no fluid) at the very centre. NO OTHER SYMPTOMS: no itch, no tingling, no pain, no other sore/blisters Should I get tested for STDs??

I would stop taking the valaciclovir. If you are uncomfortable with this approach then I suggest you get ONE more test. I predict it will be negative and when it is, then stop the valaciclovir. Sorry to hear you are going through this. I hope my comments are helpful.

I took valaciclovir during my first trimester of pregnancy (around 10 weeks) for a cold sore. I took the medication for 3 consecutive days. I read online that the medication is considered a class B drug and has no increased risk for birth defects. I am a bit worried now and wanted a second opinion.

I was given 500mg Azithromycin which appeared to clear symptons (discomfort when passing stools, mucus discharge, gas) within 48hours. I also took Doxycycline and Valaciclovir for around 10 days as a precaution until I was cleared of Chlamyda and herpes. In the last two days I have felt some discomfort inside my anus again, and today I noticed more mucus was still on my stool. Could this still be my body healing from the infection, or could it be back/something else?

So the immediate Valtrex (Valaciclovir) consumption was my lame attempt to fix a dumb error, but while on my walk home I started thinking about what I could have picked up and I figured that I'd hate myself later even more if I walked passed the pharmacy and didn't start a regimen of Valtrex just in case it actually did something. Hell if I have the virus, at least I won't get huge lesions this week or the next.

Got a coldsore in my mouth (only one), but the doctor recons (she knows the story) it is the Corsodyl that irritated my mouth and the fact that I am stressing too much (have lost 7 pounds in 4 weeks) and gave me Valaciclovir. Haven't had an outbreak last 3yrs but recently 3months ago it resurfaced ,for the first time it came together with an itchy butt which was not much of a problem then ,Doc prescribed valaciclovir 500mg ten days and it surely cleared.Strangely enough the butt itching didn't go.The itching is only in one of butt cheeks,and only a small area alone near the hairy section no bumps,just a rough skin on very close examination.The itching mostly occur at night.

Hi - thanks for being here to help. I had unprotected oral sex 19 weeks ago. A week afterwards I had tingling, urethritis and nerve/numbness in legs. I went to a clinic and STD tests found nothing but I took Doxycyline and Azithromycin fearing STDs. Symptoms went away for a couple of weeks then returned along with a rash on the head of my penis which I attributed to yeast infection after the antibiotics.

I started my 3 day treatment of valaciclovir, which I was prescribed to by my general practitioner. Is it normal to have another outbreak so close to my initial one? So, today, I have had A LOT of discharge (no smell, no redness, no itching, no soreness) and was wondering if this is ever a sign of an outbreak coming on for anyone. Also - should I start regularly seeing a Gynecologist? Or is there any specialist for this condition that could help enlighten me and help me feel more at ease?

Thursday this week the burning came back really strong, even though I have been on valaciclovir 500mg daily since then to prevent just this from happening. So I started to take 500mg every 4 hours since Thursday evening but the burning is almost just as bad, only thing that helps is cooling it down with cold water but then it starts burning the minute everything is dry again. Never had these symptoms before and I have been in a relationship with the same man for over 12 years.

lips have continued for over 2 months despite being on Valtrex (Valaciclovir) continuously. Has anyone else had this experience? I can only think that as I have Cystic Fibrosis and my immune system is busy with other infections that it can't push the HSV into its latent state???

My doctor gave me some tablets for possible herpes day 26 post exposure(Valaciclovir). On day 15 post exposure I started getting abdominal pains and the next two weeks was just not good. Tired, loss of appetite, splitting headache and the feeling of a virus in me. No rash, swollen lymp nodes or fever. Sligh diahree (twice only), but doctor said I had gastritis due to stress and anxiety and the Ranitidine tablets sorted that out in 1 week and I am still on these tablets.
