Uroxatral vs terazosin

Common Questions and Answers about Uroxatral vs terazosin

uroxatral

Avatar f tn Before doing any surgical intervention, many doctors try conservative measures such as alpha adrenergic blocking agent ( Flomax, Uroxatral, terazosin or doxazosin), which acts to reduce the muscle tone of the ureter and facilitate stone passage. For smaller stones near the bladder, this type of medical treatment can increase the spontaneous stone passage rate by about 30%.
Avatar m tn I have had an ultrasound of the prostate which checked out fine and have been tested for chlamydia and gonorhea, which both came back negative. I am currently taking uroxatral and avodart daily, and am curious as to why I am still having symptoms. Is it possible of being overmedicated? Or is there something that has been missed? If so what other possibilities are there?
Avatar f tn There is another class of medications, such as Uroxatral, which can help shrink your prostate and improve your symptoms. the results of this class of medications, however, often take many weeks before they make a major differences. Ultimately, flomax and drugs like uroxatral can be combined to give maximal medical therapy for BPH. Sometimes men continue to have problems and may be candidates for surgical intervention to improve symptoms.
Avatar m tn I’ve been on Ciprofloxacin (antibiotic), followed by Sulfamethoxyzole (antibiotic) plus Naproxen (anti-inflammatory). Currently I’m on Uroxatral, to help relax my bladder muscles to ease emptying, and further aid my prostate healing. These medications may be helping, but to be thorough I also had ultrasounds of my bladder and testes and doppler (vascular study) of my penis.
Avatar n tn I have been experiencing retrograde ejaculation from taking Flomax and Uroxatral for several years. Will normal ejaculation return if I stop the medication? How long will it take?
Avatar m tn Hello, Flomax is used for the treatment of BPH and if you are having side effects to this drug then you can use other alpha blockers like doxazosin, terazosin, alfuzosin or 5 alpha reductase inhibitors like finasteride and dutasteride. Effects may take longer to appear than alpha blockers, but they persist for many years. But they are available under prescription and should always be taken under a medical guidance. I sincerely hope that helps.
Avatar m tn I am on 3 different meds. Lisinopril HCtZ 40-25, Atenolol 25mg and terazosin 4mg. Additionally, my heart rate which has always been around 60 has dropped and is sometimes as low as 47. I have a flushed feeling in my face and an occassional dull headache. I walk several days a week 2-3 miles with no problems. My Dr. is puzzled. I have had numerous tests of urine blood and even CT scan but everything tests negative or normal. I am a 61 year old male about 25 lbs over weight.

Avatar m tn I have not had oxycodone for a few weeks. I was told to take a 25mg Librium and a 1mg Terazosin 24 hr later. Terazosin every 12 hr & Librium every 8 hr. It has been 35 hours since my last Avinza. I woke up a little dizzy, everything aches, it is taking a long time to type this because my fingers keep going numb. Mild nausea so far. I have eaten a piece of bread with water, then took my Librium at 9am. I forgot my morphine 3 times over the years.
Avatar m tn I take the same medication everyday since 2007, Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg once a day and Terazosin 1 mg at bedtime. I am attaching my previous viral load results so you can see the gross difference in the results. I would appreciate any insight you could forward to me.
Avatar n tn Now that your bladder has recompensated, you might actually be able to empty using an alpha blocker such as Uroxatral or Flomax, but I would not recommend doing that in the long term as you are skating on the edge of decompensating again. I would recommend that you have a prostatectomy and then be followed for adequacy of emptying and urinary tract infections.
Avatar f tn Medications called alpha one adrenergic antagonist are usually prescribed for the stent discomfort. They are terazosin, doxazosin, tamsulosin and alfuzosin. Sometimes anticholinergic medications like oxybutynin (ditropan), detrol or vesicare may help. Please consult your doctor, he will prescribe appropriate medications for you. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn The pain from chronic prostatitis can be relieved by NSAIDS (ibuprofen, naproxen) or alpha-blockers (flomax, terazosin). Have your PSA followed regularly and have your urologist follow PSA velocity, PSA density, and free PSA.
Avatar m tn He put me on Cipro 500mg 2x day for 4 weeks and uroxatral 10mg 1xday. This regimen did not help so I then went on septra DS for only 9 days (3 week prescription) because I didn't notice an improvement (hindsight probably stopped this one too early). He then put me on 10 weeks at 100mg 2x day.
Avatar n tn I am still seeing a doc and will keep you up to date.
Avatar n tn just a sense of movement in my chest. Dr. tried to change me to Terazosin but the flutters were intollerable so he put me back on Metoprolol. My BP is high on the 50 mg of Metoprolol (169/90) so he wants to give me 50 mg Metoprolol in the morning and another 50 mg at night. I'm worried that this will increase the heart flutters. I'm so sick of bananas...I can't imagine eating even more of them. Other potassium rich foods don't seem to give me the benefit that bananas do.
Avatar m tn s office that turned up no answers. I was given Uroxatral to try but have seen no difference in almost three weeks. I've also started to take saw palmetto about two weeks ago but still nothing. I just can't feel relieved after I go to the bathroom. I always feel like I have to urinate. My bladder empties fine, according to uroflow tests but my stream is that of a man in his 80's not a man like me who will be 25 in December.
Avatar n tn I just had the urodynamic test. The urologist who performed the test said I have low flow at high bladder pressure, which would indicate an obstruction. My normal uro, the one who performed the cystoscopy, did not find an obstruction (but I don't think he was looking for one, and he seems to be ignoring the redness he saw on my bladder neck...). Anyway, doc gave me a 30 day sample of uroxatral.. if that doesn't work, he'll mix it up with some other medications.
Avatar f tn Alpha blockers like doxazosin (Cardura®), prazosin (Minipress®), and terazosin (Hytrin®). Viagra when used in combination with alpha blockers may cause drop in blood pressure, light-headedness, dizziness, or fainting. Nitrates (nitrogen oxide donors) should not be taken with Viagra. Concomitant use of Viagra and nitrates may cause severe drop in blood pressure. I recommend you consult your cardiologist before using Viagra, and yes it may help in your case if it is not contraindicated.
Avatar n tn t use Flomax or other alpha blockers due to side effects -- disturbed sleep. Uroxatral even caused me to sleepwalk 15 feet from a nap on the sofa one evening, waking when I fell flat on my face in the next room! Separately, due to a Vitamin D deficiency my doc found, he put me on 50,000 units Vitamin D per week for 8 weeks, followed by biweekly doses. And guess what...the Vitamin D almost instantly "cured" the BPH.
Avatar n tn ve also been to a urologist who thought my problem might potentially be prostatitus or prostadynia, or possibly interstitial cystitis for which he prescribed a regimen of Prosed DS and Uroxatral. All treatments have failed to provide any significant relief. As a last ditch effort today he prescribed acyclovir as a clinical trial, being that we've tried everything else and I've not had any relief. If this doesn't work he's going to send me to an infections disease specialist.
Avatar m tn My urologist put me on Uroxatral for the time being; it has certainly helped with the pain in the prostate region and has helped with flow also. I'm still getting the on and off discomfort in my penis, but like I said...hoping something is found when I have the procedure.
