is this typical of strep prostatitis? Do you think the uroxatral and advodart are an over kill? The ultrasound of my prostate looked back to somewhat normal other than some calium deposits, which he said were a result of prostatitis. Seems like we are starting to weed out causes but the symptoms still seem to be lingering around.
My primary-care doctor and urologist both diagnosed prostatitis via digital-rectal exams. I’ve been on Ciprofloxacin (antibiotic), followed by Sulfamethoxyzole (antibiotic) plus Naproxen (anti-inflammatory). Currently I’m on Uroxatral, to help relax my bladder muscles to ease emptying, and further aid my prostate healing. These medications may be helping, but to be thorough I also had ultrasounds of my bladder and testes and doppler (vascular study) of my penis.
I was exposed to an STD 6 months ago and developed urethritis/epididymitis at first and then developed prostatitis. All std tests and urinalysis have come back negative and I've tried the following antibiotics/therapy:

GP - all std tests came back negative and urine was "clear" of bacteria. No abnormal WBC or RBC's.
Diagnosed with epididymitis and urethritis – clear discharge and testicular pain (unilateral pain on left testicle).
Blood in semen or hematospermia can be due to several causes like benign or malignant tumors of the prostate, bladder, testes, or seminal vesicles, infections like chlamydia, herpes, cytomegalovirus, and trichomoniasis, prostatitis, epididymitis, or urethritis, stone in the seminal vesicles or prostate, polyps in the urethra, obstructions in ejaculation-duct, and cancers of genitourinary system. Get a culture sensitivity test for both semen and urine done.
Six months later I went to a GP and he diagnosed me with prostatitis. He prescribed Cipro and Flomax. This helped for a while, but eventually it stopped. Next I went to a urologist. He took a history and did a dre. He said my prostate felt inflamed and I did indeed have prostatitis. The pain was quite severe at this point and I was having problems urinating. He prescribed doxycycline and flomax. This seemed to work for a little while. I returned three months later and told him of my status.
Hello, I'm a 27 year old male that was diagnosed with prostatitis a couple of weeks ago. Three weeks ago I had a cystoscopy done and ever since then it has went down hill.
He put me on Cipro 500mg 2x day for 4 weeks and uroxatral 10mg 1xday. This regimen did not help so I then went on septra DS for only 9 days (3 week prescription) because I didn't notice an improvement (hindsight probably stopped this one too early). He then put me on 10 weeks at 100mg 2x day.
ve also been to a urologist who thought my problem might potentially be prostatitus or prostadynia, or possibly interstitial cystitis for which he prescribed a regimen of Prosed DS and Uroxatral. All treatments have failed to provide any significant relief. As a last ditch effort today he prescribed acyclovir as a clinical trial, being that we've tried everything else and I've not had any relief. If this doesn't work he's going to send me to an infections disease specialist.
There is another class of medications, such as Uroxatral, which can help shrink your prostate and improve your symptoms. the results of this class of medications, however, often take many weeks before they make a major differences. Ultimately, flomax and drugs like uroxatral can be combined to give maximal medical therapy for BPH. Sometimes men continue to have problems and may be candidates for surgical intervention to improve symptoms.
I have been experiencing retrograde ejaculation from taking Flomax and Uroxatral for several years. Will normal ejaculation return if I stop the medication? How long will it take?
Now that your bladder has recompensated, you might actually be able to empty using an alpha blocker such as Uroxatral or Flomax, but I would not recommend doing that in the long term as you are skating on the edge of decompensating again. I would recommend that you have a prostatectomy and then be followed for adequacy of emptying and urinary tract infections.

There can be a difference in prostatitis and prostatitis due to an infection. I have had numerous stituations where I had prostatitis but no infections were found.
My doctor usually did blood tests and I believe that PSA lvels were a part of the blood tests. Most of the times I was treated according to the symptoms that I had at them time.
In my case there was the problem of not being able to completely empty my bladder because of me having a neurogenic bladder.
The therapy that you received would cure common STDs and your more recent Your continuing symptoms are more consistent with prostatitis than with an STD. Prostatitis is rarely caused by STD pathogens and can cause exactly the sorts of symptoms that you describe. Direct pressure such as comes with a bicycle seat can make things a bit worse. Urologists often care for persons with prostatitis, as do some internists.
i guess the doctor said that reoccurring infections are common and he needs to build up resistance to it. does this sound familiar or accurate? i have been reading about prostatitis, and sounds similar. is there anything to be done other than antibiotics and antifungal cream?

Antibiotic therapy is given for acute/chronic bacterial Prostatitis, but it is also used in non bacterial Prostatitis. Which type of Prostatitis do you have? The duration of antibiotic therapy depends upon the type of prostatitis; for acute it may be for few weeks, chronic is for 6-12 weeks. You can discuss with your doctor about other antibiotics such as doxycycline, sulfa drugs or ofloxacin.
hi im a man who is only 22 years old.. and im suffering of prostatitis.. im having pain in my prostate... andi having burning when i go to pee and i have to push hard sometimes to pee... this is very sad :(...... im having this problem for 6 month and i dont knw what to do.. can anybody can help me plz..........
I have chronic prostatitis. It's at least slightly symptomatic 70% of the time, and I've learned to deal with it 95%. You get used to anything. I pee frequently, and pretty urgently. Usually, ejaculation is accompanied by a heavy feeling afterwards, and I have to pee immediately.
The last week, I've been experiencing a dry ache that's more subtle but more annoying, accompanied by a vastly reduced sense of urgency.
HI, I had prostatitis two years ago, went to several doctors while I was in Iraq and after thirty days on 100mg twice a day doxy a doctor gave me 500mg once daily Cipro. It went away. I recently began having the same symptoms but now with the added pain at the area where the head of my penis and the shaft meet. I only normally feel the sharp pain when I'm in the shower and the water hits the area directly.
I had a colonoscopy 2 1/2 weeks ago and my prostate was enlarged.
Non-bacterial prostatitis is a diagnosis of exclusion. If you truly have symptoms consistent with prostatitis and no evidence of infection, then the diagnosis can be made.
