527657 tn?1214051850 Concurrent use of gemfibrozil and statin drugs such as simvastatin should be avoided. Please discuss the possible risks vs. benefits of taking these 2 drugs with your physician.
Avatar n tn 1 month later he was not saticfied with the drop in cholestoral so he put me on a fairley new drug called Trilipix. I take 10mg of lisinopril for high blood pressure, 10 mg of crestor, and 145mg of trilipix. After being put on the trilipix I started felling tired and having stomache problems (constipated and cramping). I went back to have my a1c check last week and it was 8.0.
501096 tn?1320874932 My husband started on Gemfibrozil to lower his cholesterol at the beginning of the year. On 2/14/08 we found out we were pregnant, but miscarried about 5 weeks later. We have been trying again since May, but I recently discovered that Gemfibrozil (and similar meds) may cause male infertility or reduced fertility. Is this accurate? If so, how long would it take for the medicine to clear his system and his fertility to return? We have 3 healthy kids and have had 2 m/c (2003 & 2008).
Avatar n tn Thanks for the post, good info. Doctor wants to put me on either tri-cor, trilipix, or antara in addition to the simvastatin. Need to call my insurance to see what co-pays would be. I've really changed my diet and without taking supplements or vitamins I don't think I would be able to do much more as far as diet. I've cut fast food to maybe once a month and I watch what I eat there, no cheese or mayo on anything. Always use wheat bread and rarely eat beef.
Avatar f tn Thank you for answering my question. Yes I take trilipix and lipitor.
1310757 tn?1273645428 My HDL levels without Gemfibrozil has been tested at 938and ranges around 800's to 900's. With Gemfibrozil it has been lowered into the high 200's. My LDL levels are always in the 40's, so it is okay. I cannot find anything on the causes or the dilemmas of such seriously high HDL levels and need answers. I cannot just ask my doctor because I am under VA care for RSD Type 1 Whole Body and in another city, I have to fly to my appointments.
600301 tn?1219689156 Exercise, Niacin, Fibrates ( such as gemfibrozil) and some statins can all raise HDL. Alcohol consumption in moderation can also do this. Whereas there is a strong link between low HDL and risk for cardiac death and heart attacks, there is very little evidence that increasing it with drugs ( appart from gemfibrozil and Niacin) actually improves patient's mortality.
7569019 tn?1460135460 was hospitalized for observation.. sent home with a new script for Gemfibrozil added to a new lower dose of atorvastatin ( was before strokes taking 80 mg.now down to 10) 4 days of major charlie horses Dr said stop taking Gemfibrozil.. and to help with the swelling I was put on lasix furosemide 20 mg and pot chloride 20 meg.. I am drinking more water but not peeing anymore than normal..dizzy tho.and sometimes short of breath, especially when walking or talking..
Avatar n tn Could my heart medicine (metropolol tartrate, gemfibrozil or metformin) be causing me to have a continuing ED problem and would viagra or other med help?? Intercourse is impossible now..Thank you.. This discussion is related to <a href='http://www.medhelp.org/posts/show/493727'>inability to ejaculate</a>.
Avatar n tn Crestor is an atypical statin in that it raises the HDL by 5-10%, but more importantly decreases through pleomorphic effects the crp level, There is some data that increasing HDL with Niaspan and gemfibrozil in men decreases mortallity if their initial HDL is below 35-40. I would probably start a statin, and see what happens to your ldl and hdl. If the hdl remains low, then I would add gemfibrozil to raise it ( since Niaspan did not work).
Avatar m tn I have been on Lisinopril (bp) for 5 years and Trilipix and Simvastatin (cholesterol) for the last 3-4 years.
Avatar n tn Here are the meds I am own - Questran - 1 packet for irritable bowl, Prozac for OCD, Allergy Injections, Methyldopa for blood pressure, and Trilipix for Triglycerides (nearly 1000), and Vitamin D. I am only 30!! I am overwieght but work hard to get rid of it with little or no results. They even checked me for Cushings. My TSH is low at 0.3 and I have a Goiter but no known thyroid problem. I have acne. Anyone know what could be causing my heartburn to be so severe?
Avatar f tn If left unchecked, increased liver enzymes can lead to permanent liver damage. Certain other cholesterol-lowering drugs, such as gemfibrozil (Lopid) and niacin, increase the risk of liver problems even more in people who take statins. Because liver problems may develop without symptoms, people who take statins have a blood test six weeks after starting a statin medication to check their liver function. After that, your doctor may recommend yearly blood tests..." http://www.mayoclinic.
315318 tn?1353251800 Recently , I was prescribed a fenofibrate (Trilipix 135 mg) along with Crestor. My cardio wanted this for helping in getting my triglycerides down. I have not had a lipid profile done since starting on this med two months ago. However, since being a diabetic , I check my blood glucose (BG) many times during the day and what I am noticing is a clear trend in the BG numbers going lower at least over the last month or so.
Avatar m tn I agree. The benefits outweigh the few, (if any at all) side effects from taking the benzo's every day for over six years. I'm 26 now without insurance, and they are the cheapest of the meds I am on. Trilipix is 184USD, Crestor is 189USD, and even generic gabapentin is 154USD. Lexapro is about 140UDS. Generic Klonopin is about 10USD. Remeron is about the same. And Inderal is 4USD. This is all per month, and I need every one of them.
Avatar m tn twice a day, Amlodipine Bensylate 5mg. once a day, Trilipix 135mg. once a day and Ibuprofen 600mg. when needed. Pravastatin Sodium 40mg. once a day and Alprazolam 1mg. twice a day. I have been to my doctor and have told him about it and he just says, its anxiety. Does anyone know what might be causing this ?? I am tired of hearing that it is anxiety ! Please help !!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar m tn I take some medications for cholesterol and migraine prevention (Gemfibrozil, Simvastatin, and Atenolol). Some of the medications list chills as a possible side effect, but this recurring theme of night-time intense cold followed by sweats is more specifically what I'd like to find the cause of. It may only happen once every couple of months for me, yet I'd sure like to figure out what is causing it. Normally, I prefer a cooler room to a warmer one.
Avatar n tn the fibrates (gemfibrozil, bezafibrate, ciprofibrate). These still have significant side effects, but may be worth discussing with your prescriber. Outside of drug therapy, try taking a look at dairy products that are marketed as containing plant sterols. The evidence to support the fact that these products can help to reduce cholesterol is relatively strong.
Avatar n tn Sometimes they also prescribe drugs such as gemfibrozil (Lopid) for use in addition to these lifestyle changes. Now researchers believe that fish oil, though not as effective as gemfibrozil, can reduce triglyceride levels by 20% to 50%. One particular fish oil supplement called Lovaza has been approved by the FDA to lower triglycerides. Lovaza contains 465 milligrams of EP and 375 milligrams of DHA in 1-gram capsules.
Avatar m tn Your doctor might suggest a different statin. Certain other cholesterol-lowering drugs, such as gemfibrozil (Lopid) and niacin (Niacor, Niaspan), increase the risk of liver problems even more in people who take statins. Although liver problems are rare, your doctor will likely order a liver enzyme test before or shortly after you begin to take a statin. You shouldn't need any additional liver enzyme tests unless you begin to have signs or symptoms of trouble with your liver.

Avatar n tn How do they test for the adrenals? I will post all the different test they just recently done on bloodwork that we are awaiting results on. My diahrea issue is helped with Questran (Cholestyramine) and they have me on Trilipix for my Tryglycerides. I had terrible stomach cramps and had a colonoscopy that only revealed a spastic colon. After that (sometime around 04 or 05) my hormones were off on a routine blood test.
Avatar m tn Meds are as follows;MULTAQ-WARFARIN-GEMFIBROZIL-SIMVASTATIN-METOPROLOL-ASPIRIN.Any advice greatly appreciated!
Avatar f tn Lets forget about pain meds for the moment. Does the Neuro not have you on any preventative meds? Topamax, Trilipix, Trileptal, Inderal, etc? If not, you need to discuss that with the doctor. He needs to be on preventative meds. Treating migraines is a marathon and not a sprint. It takes time to find out what medication or combo of medications will work. Now, as far as pain pills....or...abortive meds. There are meds out there that specifically attack migraines.
Avatar n tn The way TC is calculated is LDL + HDL + (TGL/5) = TC. that is how I calculated your number. If they stated a lower number it could be because they did not accept the 950 for your TGL as correct and used an estimated number based on your DL. The Lopid will make a big difference. Lopid is also used in people with a combination of low high-density lipoprotein (HDL; 'good cholesterol') levels and high low-density lipoprotein (LDL; 'bad cholesterol') and triglyceride levels.
Avatar f tn If you could offer your opinion and a few causes of this, I would be ever so grateful...A little under a yr. ago, I was put on gemfibrozil for triglycerides, as they were over 1100. I had blood tests done a month ago while @ a routine visit to my doctor. 7 days ago I took my daughter to the same Dr. & she got a blood sample again from me.
