Trigeminal neuralgia neck pain

Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia neck pain

trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar n tn Hi, The common causes of shooting pains on right side of head are trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, tension headaches etc.In trigeminal neuralgia there are successive bouts of face pain. This pain occurs when a blood vessel compresses the trigeminal nerve as it leaves the brain stem. Temporal arteritis is caused due to inflammation of medium and large sized arteries bringing blood to the head.
1298230 tn?1286310079 In addition, in trigeminal neuralgia you may have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid. Therefore, they are hardly interlinked.
Avatar f tn Yes, it could be a disk problem. It could also be a form of Trigeminal Neuralgia. I suffer from it. Pain is severe. My latest bought (Just getting Over) originated from the below the jaw/neck. Radiated to ear, teeth, cheek, eye and forehead. At 1st I thought it was an ear infection. There are 3 nerves (TRI-geminal) in the face that will cause different pain in different locations. Typically only effects one side of the face. Treatment is difficult. Pain med. Anti-inflammatory. Soft foods, rest.
Avatar n tn Hi, possibly it is neuralgia, in conditions like trigeminal neuralgia similar kind of symptoms are seen. Do consult neurologist for investigations. Trigeminal neuralgia is a disorder affecting the areas of the face where the trigeminal nerve's branches are distributed, including the lips, eyes, nose, scalp, forehead, and upper and lower jaws.
Avatar f tn Hello. For a few months my trigeminal nerve has been irritated. It's the first and second branch. I experience the electrical shock (more like a tickle) that I've experienced with Trigeminal Neuralgia but there's no pain. It seems to happen often when my head is tilted forward/down and that makes me wonder if it could be an issue with my cervical spine. I really don't have any unusual discomfort in my neck. I don't have headaches or sinus pressure or anything.
Avatar n tn There is a different form of neuralgia called glossopharyngeal neuralgia. It has a similar pain sensation as that of trigeminal neuralgia but in a different location. This type of neuralgia is rare and is usually one sided. The pain can be felt in the throat, tonsillar region, back of the tongue (not front), and even the ear and neck. The pain can be triggered by various activities such as laughing, chewing, coughing, speaking, etc. The treatment is similar to that of trigeminal neuralgia.
Avatar f tn Dear, Trigeminal neuralgia is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, There are some things that you can do to minimize the frequency and intensity of TN attacks: Apply ice packs or any readily available source of cold to the area of pain. Cold often numbs the area and will reduce the pain.[citation needed] Get adequate rest in normal rest cycles. Manage your stress well and keep stress levels low.
Avatar f tn Technically a bad enough urinary tract infection (UTI) could set off an MS relapse but a UTI wouldn't generally cause a full blown relapse, it's not uncommon for a UTI to cause a pseudo relapse though. A pseudo is not a true relapse but what happen's to an MSer when exposed too external heat, rise in temperature due to an infection, menstruation, too much physical activity etc.
Avatar n tn Hi, Thank you for your question. Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.
Avatar n tn I am going twice a week to a Chiropractor to get relief from Trigeminal Neuralgia .He is an expert in in nerve pain treatment.I have Trigeminal Neuralgia since Nov ember 20001..I took Homeopathic treatment,Accupuncture treatment..Since one and half years I am taking Gabapentin, colonzepam, baclofom etc.Pain goes and come.some times it almost blind me due to severe pain. Is there anyone who got cure by Chiropractor.
Avatar n tn I have recently been diagnosed with atypical trigeminal neuralgia , I have severe crushing pain top and bottom of my right jaw pain into the cheek and across to my nose, ear ache and some neck pain. All the pain is in the right side and stops exactly in the middle of my face. (I dont get a headache with it . the attacks have lasted up to 12 hours with no reprieve until i got some tablets from my doctor.
Avatar n tn it is always there just in varying degrees of severity along with neck pain and stiffness could trigeminal neuralgia present like that?
Avatar f tn severe earache, toothache, pain to soft tissue around the neck and throat area, and the back of my head behind my left ear, pain travels from under my chin and up through the roof of my mouth and nose, the back of my eye and the top of my head. I have tingling to the side of my face and cheek.
Avatar n tn Sounds like trigeminal neuralgia type 2 (which is the constant aching, burning, stabbing pain of somewhat lower intensity than type 1). The underlying cause of any type of neuralgia is damage to a nerve. Causes include shingles, syphilis, MS, Lyme Disease, vitamin B12 deficiency, pressure or injury to nerves due to a slipped discs or tumour to name a few.
Avatar n tn I also have Hashimoto's (hypothyroidism) and Trigeminal Neuralgia. Have had Hashimoto's disease for many years now. Not until I got on the cholesterol medication Simvastatin did I get Trigeminal Neuralgia. I refuse to take any anti seizure medications, the side effects are to dangerous. I take muscle relaxers and Advil as needed. After taking the statin drug Simvastatin I haven't been the same. I even got to the point that I was breathless.
Avatar f tn I first started noticing the trigeminal neuralgia pain when cool breezes would hit my cheek. Prior to that I had numbness and tingling for years in that area. I hope it doesn't develop into something more painful and just stays at numbness.
1385138 tn?1279928966 Clinical manifestation includes sore throat, difficult in eating, ringing in ear, unilateral facial and neck pain, and ear pain. Sometimes the elongated styloid process comes in contact with the extra-cranial internal carotid artery and leads to compression (while turning the head) leading stroke or neurological symptoms. Treatment is only surgical called partial styloidectomy.
Avatar n tn One of the conditions that can cause pain as you are experiencing is called Temporal Arteritis. Trigeminal Neuralgia and Atypical Facial Pain also fit. There are other tests the neurologist may recommend. Many patients I have seen have experienced complete remission of their symptoms without surgery. Some forever, some for many years. Don't get discouraged. Simply because the MRI was negative does NOT mean your condition is caused solely by stress.
Avatar f tn Trigeminal neuralgia (TN) pain duration is typically from a few seconds to 1 - 2 minutes. Development of trigeminal neuralgia in a young person suggests the possibility of multiple sclerosis. TMJ dysfunction can be misdiagnosed as TN.
Avatar f tn Isolated eye pain is rarely seen with trigeminal neuralgia. Usually there is a facial pain, reaching up to the scalp, which can increase on even the lightest of touch, water, breeze, etc. Do you have any of these? Have you got an MRI of the brain done after you have been having these symptoms of drooping of eyelids?
Avatar n tn i am suffering from this disease and am on tegretol and neurontin this controls the pain.
Avatar n tn Hi, probably this is trigeminal neuralgia. “It is a neuropathic disorder of the trigeminal nerve that causes episodes of intense pain in the eyes, lips, nose, scalp, forehead, and jaw. It is estimated that 1 in 15,000 people suffer from trigeminal neuralgia, although those numbers may be significantly higher due to frequent misdiagnosis. TN usually develops after the age of 40, although there have been cases with patients being as young as three years of age”. Taken from website http://en.
