Trigeminal neuralgia ear pain

Common Questions and Answers about Trigeminal neuralgia ear pain

trigeminal-neuralgia

Avatar m tn Hi, Thank you for your question. This may be Trigeminal neuralgia as you have typical one sided facial pain extending to temple and eye( ophthalmic branch of trigeminal nerve may be involved) and sore gums of the teeth of same side (maxillary branch of 5th nerve). Trigeminal neuralgia may have a triggering factor like recent history of tooth extraction, touch, cold breeze or hot sensation etc. which you need to evaluate and avoid.
335728 tn?1331414412 It is not necessary that you should have sinusitis to experience this sort of pain. If it were to be trigeminal neuralgia it will be a sharp shooting/jabbing/burning sort of sensation. It triggers with touching, chewing or brushing the teeth.
Avatar n tn There is a different form of neuralgia called glossopharyngeal neuralgia. It has a similar pain sensation as that of trigeminal neuralgia but in a different location. This type of neuralgia is rare and is usually one sided. The pain can be felt in the throat, tonsillar region, back of the tongue (not front), and even the ear and neck. The pain can be triggered by various activities such as laughing, chewing, coughing, speaking, etc. The treatment is similar to that of trigeminal neuralgia.
Avatar f tn twoe weeks later the pain returned and never went away, I started to get a severe pain in my ear, jaw joint and behind my ear when I talked or laughed, this got worse as time went on and I became poorley due to the amount of pain I was having.
Avatar m tn hello, i am 26 years old, female, and i am diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, would like to know if its normal to feel pain in my ear...
Avatar n tn It hurts to turn my head to the right (keep in mind it is my left ear that hurts) and touching my ear causes near vomit inducing pain. There is a spot just below my ear that if I massage it, the pain subsides for a minute or two and then starts back up. Usually, if I can lay still and/or go to sleep the pain goes away and may not resurface for several days but always comes back. I went to an ear doctor but since it wasn't an actual infection he did not offer much help.
Avatar n tn Has anyone out there been diagnosed with geniculate neuralgia and suffers thru constant ear pain (actually pain referred thru the ear)? If so, have you done anything about it or gone so far as to have the surgery that has a great cure rate, but unfortunately, there are not that many cases to compare aainst.
Avatar n tn In all probability, you are suffering from trigeminal neuralgia. For medical treatment of trigeminal neuralgia several types of drugs are tried either singly or in combination. These are anti-epilepsy drugs such as valproate, carbamazepine, lamotrigine, phenytoin, gabapentin, and pregabalin; muscle relaxants such as clonazepam and baclofen; tricyclic antidepressants such as carbamazepine, amitriptyline, and nortriptyline.
Avatar n tn Hello, From your symptoms the possibilities of trigeminal neuralgia and temporal arteritis need to be ruled out. Trigeminal neuralgia is painful swelling (inflammation) of the nerve (trigeminal nerve) that delivers feeling to the face and "surface" of the eye. Trigeminal neuralgia causes severe, short-lasting (only a few seconds) facial pain on the side of the affected nerve even by slight touch. Mostly affects elderly females. May be caused in multiple sclerosis also.
Avatar n tn Just the other day I saw a neurologist and got Tegretol which is supposed to help the pain cuased by Trigeminal neuralgia which I have same symptoms for. BUT taking for 2 days 100mg per day didn't do anything. and yesterday I even felt some mild but still dull toothache one the other side of my face. My symptoms are generally get worst as the day goes by. and I have this constant tender point on end of my jaw line since the very beginning of the extraction.

I get ear pain and face pain. It is only on the right side of my face.I have had scans done, ear tests done. Everything is clear. I have had injections and acupuncture but no help. Any answers from anybody. Please help before i go crazy...
Avatar f tn it could be related to temporomandibular joint (TMJ) pain, otic neuralgia (a pain in the ear), occipital nerve pain (a sensory nerve that goes up to the scalp), or it could be a headache syndrome. Trigeminal neuralgia does not usually go to the scalp. I would recommend a thorough ENT evaluation and audiometry to exclude any other cause for this. A neurology evaluation may also be helpful.
Avatar n tn Headache and tingling and pain in left side of face could be due to trigeminal neuralgia, temporal arteritis, inner ear problem or TMJ. In TMJ there is pain on clenching the teeth. In Trigeminal neuralgia the point in front of the ear is usually painful on pressing. It could also be due to cold and sinusitis. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined Hope this helps.
Avatar f tn If it is cheek, ear, etc. That is TN or Atypical face pain. If it is "behind the eye" and lasts for hours, I'd say cluster headache. If it is only behind the eye and lasts for seconds, I'd say CPH. CPH is easy to treat (Indocine.) So is TN (Teretol.) Cluster Headaches are a challenge. That's why they are called "suicide headaches." TN almost always aches and then has an "Electric ZAP" type pain.
Avatar f tn Now, very recently I re-started using the cell phone only for written messages and voice out loud. I have been getting trigeminal neuralgia pain since then. This is my first search about this.
Avatar m tn Sharp pain in the side of face could be due to injury to a nerve or pinched nerve, an infection or a trauma. Hence it could be Trigeminal neuralgia, abscess in tooth, exposed root canal, internal ear infection, maxillary sinusitis, TMJ, migraine, herpes (recurrent) without rash or fibromyalgia localized to face.
Avatar f tn i looked up the symptoms for trigeminal neuralgia and the pain i have is not excruciating and last a lot longer than a minute
Avatar f tn I had an absest tooth once and experiaced some ear pain with that, but I had that tooth pulled about 6 months ago. My remaining teeth I belive are ok, so I don't feel that the ear pain is related to dental problems a before. Please advise on what I should do.
Avatar f tn Cluster headache - Longer-lasting pain; orbital or supraorbital; may cause patient to wake from sleep; autonomic symptoms Dental pain (e.g.
Avatar f tn From reading my info could this be trigeminal neuralgia or atypical trigeminal neuralgia, acute sinusitis, tinnitus, TMJ? Other than MRI are there any other procedures and scans that can be done to get a better look at my sinuses and internal ear. Can wisdom teeth cause these symptoms? My dentist recommends I extract all 4 wisdom tooth, can these extractions cause my symptom to increase.?
Avatar f tn Yes, it could be a disk problem. It could also be a form of Trigeminal Neuralgia. I suffer from it. Pain is severe. My latest bought (Just getting Over) originated from the below the jaw/neck. Radiated to ear, teeth, cheek, eye and forehead. At 1st I thought it was an ear infection. There are 3 nerves (TRI-geminal) in the face that will cause different pain in different locations. Typically only effects one side of the face. Treatment is difficult. Pain med. Anti-inflammatory. Soft foods, rest.
Avatar m tn of the eye. Trigeminal neuralgia causes severe, short-lasting (only a few seconds) facial pain on the side of the affected nerve even by slight touch. Mostly affects elderly females. May be caused in multiple sclerosis also. Diagnosis is by nerve conduction tests coupled with electromyography and CT or MRI head. It helps in ruling out other causes of facial pain like cluster headaches, atypical neuralgia and myofascial pain.
