Toprol xl migraine

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl migraine

toprol

Avatar f tn I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now. Keep in mind I didn't know what was happening to me, I never thought twice about the switch to generic, it was cheaper and I also had a lot of stress going on in my life at the time. My pharmacacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007.
Avatar n tn The medicines tried are clonidine, covera, sular verapamil, prinivil, cozar, and the latest is toprol xl. All of these medications have given me severe headaches. Toprol xl was the best for awhile. I could at least tolerate the headache. Now I am getting much more severe headaches. Do you know of any possible reason for this reaction? Is there a common ingredient that I could be allergic tl? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Avatar n tn Just wodered what you may think it could be, have had history of migraines (but more in the past) and highbloodpressure on Toprol XL 100mg a day. Having routine fasting blood sugars, & check up soon..But this is an annoyance and wondered if anyone could tell me what they think it may be? Thank you for your time!
Avatar n tn It resolves itself without juice or anything else.My first episode happened when I was 49. I am on Toprol XL for 12 years, 50mg. / day for HTN and rapid heartbeat. I am prone to migraines but never experience these symptoms near when I have migraine. My migraines are triggered by changes in barometric pressure and hormonal. I have been to a nuerologist for my migraines, and take Excedrin migraine formula. Suggestions?
Avatar n tn Procardia is sometimes used to prevent migraine headaches. Interestingly enough toprol may also have preventive properties as well. I hope you find this information useful. 492869 tn?1285022533 Then I took another, and tried to get some sleep. So at 4pm I took 3 Tylenol, 2 Nauzene, 2 Zofran, Toprol XL, and Zomig. I also drank a bottle of water, and a glass of coke for the caffeine. I put my oxygen on around 4:30. I had some pain relief between 5:30, and 6:30. At 5 I took my normal medication. Theo-24, and Ritalin. At 7 I took took another Zomig. At 8 I took 3 more Tylenol, 2 Nauzene, and another bottle of water. My first seizure was somewhere around 8:30.
Avatar n tn The same thing happened that night in only one eye and I didn't feel sick. I take Synthroid, Toprol XL and Lotrel. What happened and how do I handle this if it happens again? Someone at work suggested an Ockular Migrain could that be it?
1054923 tn?1258523671 I recently had a pacemaker implanted for BradyCardia along with that I started taking Toprol XL 25mil. Its been approx 2 months since starting this med for speeding heart rate. Since I have been taking this my vision during the day is very fuzzy, at night its horrible. I have curtailed driving at night because everything is blending together. I am also feeling very unbalanced not dizzy per say but woozy.
Avatar f tn My neuro said that given my symptoms, it is unlikely that it is hemiplegic migraines, but could be a possibility. She took me off Toprol XL and prescribed Inderal LA as this will respond to more receptors in the body other than just the heart. Hopefully this will help not only with my Tachy but will prevent "episodes" if this is in fact hemiplegic migraines. She also said that if they are HM's and I don't have the pain associated with a migraine when these episodes happen...
Avatar m tn I am not certain if it could be used in your situation, but I like the idea of taking one medicine that covers these two health issues. I encourage you to speak to your doctor about your options. Toprol XL seemed to increase the intensity of my migraines when I tried it. As a side note, we were also uncertain about having children with me being on the meds., however, we now have 2 precious healthy children.
Avatar n tn I also take BP med Toprol XL but only .25 mg. per day, most of the time half the tablet so only .12.5 mg. I have felt pressure or squeezing in my neck and wonder if their may be blockage in the arteries. I have had EKG's, Echo, and also cat scan to determine seizure or something else which was negative. I do not exercise regularly, history of eating fast foods often, need to lose about 70-80 lbs. My triglycerides are also twice what they should be but good and bad cholesterol are fine.

Avatar n tn Obviously, she is off birth control. She is using Toprol XL and Topamax for migraine prophylaxis, and has had no migraines since beginning this treatment. She is also taking aspirin daily (325mg). In retrospect, the combination of migraine, birth control, and PFO seems quite dangerous, based on what we can glean from the literature, although each factor singly is quite common.
610089 tn?1220838940 If I have an SVT episode (mine are more persistent than yours, sometimes requiring an ER visit) I can take a 50 mg toprol and break it within 2 hours. I keep those handy. The main thing is just press into your head that you will not die. It is an aggravation like a migraine headache, you will not die. Do your thing and deal with it. It is hard to do, trust me I know but you have to do it.
250051 tn?1328134730 IT is also the hardest drug to get along with in comparison to any of the other drugs I take. - I take Toprol XL and alot of it, I take 125 mg 2 times a day, people that usually take this medicine take way lower doses and only once a day...because it is a once a day medicine. I take it for AVNRT, high blood pressure, and Congestive Heart Failure (CHF). Then there is Sotalol 120 mg twice a day, which I take for V-Tach and A-Fib it is also a beta blocker which helps lower my BP even more...
440193 tn?1293814117 I have uncontroled b.p and I'm on 100mg of toprol xl my new doc felt that I was being emotional because I wanted a 2nd opinon, my other symptoms are feeling bone chilling cold, dizzy, having itching that felt like electical shocks, numbness into my hands, and the right side of my face.I was tested for Graves twice,( I got my second opinon) but each were neg.
Avatar f tn I do already take Toprol Xl 25 mg each day for arrhythmia. I have been meditating, trying to exercise, watching my diet and trying not to strain my eyes, but nothing seems to work. Has anyone else dealt with specific event acquired persistent ocular migraines like this? What worked? Who did you find to help you? How long did it take to resolve? I am also going to post this in the Heart Rhythm Community since my problem began with the ablation and possibly someone there has some experience.

Avatar n tn Dear Chirs, You asked me what medications I have tried to help with (PVC/PAC) attacks. Well, I have tried Toprol XL which is a long-acting cardiospecific beta blocker. For me, Toprol XL made be feel puffy, that is, my breathing seemed funny like I couldn't get a deep enough breath. I also felt dragged out on Toprol XL. Perhaps I should have reduced the dosage but I just stopped it. I have also tried Tenormin (Atenolol) which is also a cardiospecific beta blocker.
Avatar n tn Usually comes on after lunch or around 2-3pm. Am on Toprol XL, about 75mg, and Cymbalta 30mg; also drink 64-96 oz of water daily plus high intake of electrlyte bevs like sports drinks. Also take a calcium, mangesium and potassium supplement and salt pills. Was previously on Lexapro. Have gained about 25 lbs in a few months, although I compete in triathlons and complete 40-90 min workouts at least 2-3 times a week.
Avatar f tn Toprol XL, Imdur, 81mg Aspirin, and Nitro when needed. My CCB was changed 2 weeks ago from Procardia to Verapamil to give me some migraine benefits. In the hospital they started me on Tegretol to control the seizures. All doctors assure me it's not my medicines causing this. I'm on a strict low-sodium, no preservatives, no artificial stuff diet, organic diet for migraines and heart health. No caffiene, limited refined sugars (my arrhythmias), and no alcohol.
Avatar n tn I have high blood pressure, and am currently taking Toprol XL. I went to the doctors yesterday and they didn't know what caused it, and gave me an EKG which was normal. The doctor said my heart could have been beating irregularly when I almost blacked out. Could my blood pressure have dropped, and lead to this episode? When I got home yesterday from the doctors I went to bed, and upon waking this morning I feel much better.
Avatar n tn I have used a small dose of beta blocker (less than 12.5 mg TOPROL XL per day )from time to time and have had great success with it. Not enough to create any adverse side affects. And provides great relief from PVC symptoms and tachycardia. Based on that experience, I suggest trying the beta blocker your doc prescribed --- before doing a whole lot more worrying about all of this. Good luck. -B.
Avatar n tn After it's over I still feel tired but more myself again. I take Synthroid, Lotrel and Toprol XL I take for high blood pressure which has been under control for the past 2 years 110/70. Someone at work said the same thing happened to his wife her Doctor said it's an Ockular migrain. Can anyone help me figure this out? I sure hope so it's really upsetting my life right now.
Avatar m tn I do have a history of sleep paralysis, possible apnea, and benign heart palpitations. I am currently on Paxil CR 12.5mg daily, and Toprol XL 25mg 2X daily. 1. Could the medication be effecting my vision? 2. Does seeing a black blob in the center of my vision indicate anything serious like presyncope or hypotension? 3. What can explain the other distortions in my vision? 4. Could sleep paralysis and/or apena beplaying a factor in this?
Avatar f tn As some background, I do have high blood pressure, controlled by taking Toprol-XL, a beta blocker. I also have a history of anxiety. My mom and sister get migraines with aura. I had a CT scan the other day, but don't know the results yet. My Neurologist thinks it may be migraine related, but I admit I am skeptical because I don't get the Aura, and it doesn't always turn into a headache - sometimes my head just tingles all day.
3233170 tn?1346453803 and that it was a small stroke. Put me on topamax, b1 and b6 and pulled me off of my toprol xl and fish oil, and magnesium and told me i needed to lose weight.... that was it. I was highly confused. I then has a dizzyness and movement test, eye and ear test, and a lower and upper nerve conduction study and a EEG, all in the same day. I seen him that day.... he seemed annoyed and tells me "You have a pinched nerve in your back" and i said " what do we do about that?
Avatar n tn I doubled my dose of Toprol XL, at the recommendation of my cardiologist. I don't know if it's possible to have stable blood pressure with intermittent electric shocks that come without warning. Is it possible to lower the nerve's "electric charge" somehow? I have heard that imagery works. Any opinion on that technique? (The idea is that with repeated pain the brain "learns" to be in pain and so to speak wears a rut that it likes to return to.
Avatar n tn Since then, my heart rate, which was always on the high side to begin with, has increased, resulting with me being on Toprol XL 100 mg. My eyes have on rare occasions (maybe 3 or 4 total) where light seems to be amplified, and I am looking through a fog. Like my house is filled with a light smoke. This is noticed at night, and I just usually go to bed and wake up fine. My floaters are more numerous at times, but maybe I am noticing them because I am paying more attention.
