Toprol xl dosage

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl dosage

toprol

Avatar n tn The nurse practitoner spoke with me and said she wasn't too concerned that it was anything immediately dangerous but was going to prescribe me Toprol XL. I am to start it tomorrow a.m. and discontinue it prior to the tests next week. I am also supposed to increase my salt intake and my fluids. Has anyone taken it before?
Avatar m tn My Doctor started me on Toprol-XL approximately 10 days ago. A low dosage from what I read (.25mg). My two primary side effect symptons are tiredness/lethargy and a bit of anxiety/nervousness. These are the most common from all that I have read. My question is will these eventually go away as my body gets used to/ more tolerant of the drug?
Avatar n tn I had to have 3 artieries cleared out and 2 stints. My Dr. has put me on Toprol-xl 25 gm a day. What is this medicine for and the side effects. My blood pressure is fine so is the heart beat.Have high chlorestol, runs in the family, had quad by-passes 21 yrs ago, am on zocor 80 grams a day.
Avatar n tn After taking Toprol XL 50 for ten months, my doctor has said that I can wean myself off it gradually over a few weeks. He's suggested breaking the pills in half, taking only a half each day instead of a whole one. I know that these pills are time released and I am wondering if breaking them in half defeats the time release action and if this is an appropriate way of getting half dosage. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn How long does it take to wean off beta blockers specifically Toprol XL? 5 days ago, I Was taking 75mg and pulse dropped to the low 40's and told to stop. Since then. Pulse has not kicked back up. Do have a headache and intermittent fatigue. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn I take 25mg of Toprol XL daily for mitral valve prolapse. I don't have high bp. Is fatigue a common side effect with such a small dose? I have been on this dosage for about 4 years, but I feel tired during the day sometimes. I recently took up running and am a very active person who enjoys running several times a week. My resting heart rate is 48 bpm. Also, what is the best time of day to take this med?
Avatar n tn I should cut my Toprol XL dosage by 50%. Do you concur? Would this reduced dosage have any negative impact whatsoever on the mean-time-to-failure of the replacement valve? Thank you very much. CCF is simply the BEST!
Avatar n tn I posted this question on 12-3 but apparently it got missed. After taking Toprol XL 50 for ten months, my doctor has said that I can wean myself off it gradually over a few weeks. He's suggested breaking the pills in half, taking only a half each day instead of a whole one. I know that these pills are time released and I am wondering if breaking them in half defeats the time release action and if this is an appropriate way of getting half dosage. Avatar n tn Hi raquel, sorry you are having more palps now on the toprol xl. I've not tried verapamil but my pac's are about the same since being on the toprol, I take 25mgs a day also. I still get them each day, but am not having nearly as much svt, so it is helping in that respect. I've heard sometimes taking a bb can cause them to increase actually, probably depends on the individual, since everyone reacts differently to meds, so I'm sure you're not alone in this.
Avatar n tn The correct coversion of toprol xl 300 mg = lopressor 150 bid for a total of 300 daily. It should have not been 300 mg qd at once as this should have been giving in divided doses. Hope this helps!
Avatar m tn I have taken 50 mgs of toprol XL for 12-13 years. It is a very safe and a good medication in my opinion. The XL means that it has an Extended Life .. in other words one pill is supposed work for at least 24 hours i think... but anyway... I dont know why the doc would say just use it when your rate is fast.. if you took one a day ....your heart rate should stay pretty regular Id think.. but Im not a doctor... I dont really know about taking it occassionally... doesnt make alot of sense to me..
376186 tn?1219283105 I am back on Toprol XL, 50 mg for PVC's and have been doing a 'no no'.....online reading about possible side effects of this drug and most of what I came away with is that this drug has lots of bad side effects for most people. There is a website where people can post their experiences with medications and 90% of the people who posted had terrible side effects w/this Beta Blocker. I hate taking meds to begin with and now I am not so sure that I should stay on this.
Avatar n tn This is a follow up question I asked previously about switching from coreg to toprol-xl. Do you know if people who switch from coreg to toprol-xl maintain their EF percentage during the switch and after changing medications? If a person decreases their coreg dosage and their EF reduces, does the EF go back to what it was if they increase the dosage back to what they were using before they decreased it.
Avatar n tn I have been on Toprol XL 100 for essential hypertencion. (BP was 160/100 and now averages 125/75) for 18 months with good results except for fatigue, some diziness and slow pulse (50) My Dr, switched me to Benicar 20mg last week and now my heart races at 120+ and my anxiety level is through the roof. Should I have weaned slowly off the Toprol or stayed on that dosage despite the side effects? EKG is fine but this feeling in chest and arms scares the daylights out of me.
Avatar n tn 36yo white female, history of Sinus Tachycardia, Questionable SVT but most likely high rate Sinus Tachycardia, Been on toprol xl 100mg 2x daily, Also have bigeminal PVCs often sustained also placed on Cardizem LA 180mg. Several stress echos and was told everything was fine just some minor regergitation. Not real comfortable with Cardiologist so opted to seek evaluation of a 2nd cardiologist today.
Avatar f tn I still don't feel 100% and have been back on the brand TOPROL XL for 9 days now. Keep in mind I didn't know what was happening to me, I never thought twice about the switch to generic, it was cheaper and I also had a lot of stress going on in my life at the time. My pharmacacy switched my "Toprol XL 50 mg" to a Generic one called "Metoprolol Succinate ER 50 mg" (manufactured by Sandoz) in December 2007.
343006 tn?1314450071 ahh you have one bad effect I read , dizzyness .. that adds a strike aginst Toprol xl !! I just got off toprol xl after weaning down slow for the past 2months, I have to say I feel wonderfull ! have energy and the one bad side effect I had went away totaly now.. low blood sugar problems. caused with long term useage 3 to 5 yrs .. I hit 5years on this junk ! I taking a Natural medication used for stubborn high blood pressure and its working so far.. fingers crossed it stays working !
Avatar n tn I have the same. Mine is caused by mitral valve regurgitation. I was put on Toprol XL as well and I did not have high blood pressure (although it was not as low as yours). It does lower my blood pressure slightly but I don't seem to have any issues from it.
Avatar n tn The docs aren't sure if he has an intestinal virus or bug or what. I think it is the increased dosage of Toprol XL. He started feeling nausea, abdominal distress, diahrea (sp)and just overall unwell since he increased his dosage per doctor's orders.
Avatar f tn I was previously taking 25 mg in the am and 12.5 mg in the evening of the generic Toprol XL. Now I am taking 25 mg in the morning of generic Lopressor, and another 25 in the evening, but less than a full 12 hours apart. For example I will take the 25mg at 7 am, another 12.5 at 2pm and another 12.5 at around 6 or so.I have had breakthrough tachycardia, mostly when I wake up in the morning or a few hours after. Could this be caused by the change in medication?
Avatar n tn I am surprised that your doctor has not upped the dosage of toprol. You are taking a low dose. I was on toprol for alittle while, and it did help me. I was also on Sotalol for a few years (combined with Cardizem) and that helped me also. In regard to V-fib and sotalol, I really haven't heard of that. I have heard of v-tach a very low possibality when on sotalol, but not v-fib. I would recommend you trying the sotalol. When I was first put on it, I was monitored in the hospital for 3 days.
Avatar n tn all the tests came back fine and the doc thinks it was caused by stress/anxiety or something i ate. i am on a low dosage of toprol xl 50 mg 1 a day.. my question is this. since it happend only once am i better off staying on toprol or taking a anxiety medicine like lexapro daily or taking xanax just when i need it. it seems kind of weird to me taking toprol when nothing is wrong with my heart. any help???
Avatar n tn After starting Toprol the PACs increased, so the doctor increased the dosage. Every time the dose has increased the PACs have gotten worse after a few days or weeks. Now I am having extended periods every day where every third or fourth beat is a PAC. The doctor says that if they are bothering me we can increase the dose of Toprol even more, but now I'm wondering if it would make more sense to reduce the dose and see what happens.
Avatar n tn The docs aren't sure if he has an intestinal virus or bug or what. I think it is the increased dosage of Toprol XL. He started feeling nausea, abdominal distress, diahrea (sp)and just overall unwell since he increased his dosage per doctor's orders. Avatar n tn toprol xl posted by judy on March 18, 1999 at 19:39:16: What in the hell is it (Toprol XL)--I believe it is for high blood pressure. And what are some of the side effects (most common)? My husband is on 100 mg. daily (from 50) and hasn't felt well since. The docs aren't sure if he has an intestinal virus or bug or what. I think it is the increased dosage of Toprol XL.
Avatar n tn The best option might be to switch to a long-acting version of metoprolol called Toprol XL. This is a once a day medicine. Good luck.
Avatar f tn Toprol XL is a slow release medication designed to deliver dose over 24 hour time period and it takes a week or so for the blood level to stabilize to achieve effect. It shouldn't make any difference when you take it as long as it is the same time each day. Have you discussed this problem with your doctor..perhaps a lower dosage or try another beta blocker. I take 100 mg/day and don't notice any side effects, but drug response is variable.
