Toprol xl for svt

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl for svt

toprol

Avatar f tn I was on Toprol XL and it unfortunately didn't do anything to stop my SVTs. Then again, I haven't had much luck with anything yet. Tried the beta blockers, calcium channel blockers and now going on my 3rd dose increase of sodium channel blockers. I didn't experience any side effects either though with the Toprol so I think it is pretty well tolerated. I hope you find success with this.
Avatar n tn Hi, On Tues. I was prescribed Toprol XL to help my SVT. So far I am feeling really sluggish, sleepy, no appetite and I think it has considerably lowered my bp though I have no way to check. Despite these side effects I am feeling better on this med. My question is will these side effects lessen or go away after I've been on this med for a time, or are they something I'll just need to get used to? I've had toprol before but it was half this dose and I didn't experience any side effects.
Avatar n tn I was taking Toprol XL for a over a year for high BP, long before getting palps, so they obviously didn't prevent them or slow them down. Guess, like with most meds, it effects everyone differently.
Avatar m tn How long does it take to wean off beta blockers specifically Toprol XL? 5 days ago, I Was taking 75mg and pulse dropped to the low 40's and told to stop. Since then. Pulse has not kicked back up. Do have a headache and intermittent fatigue. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn Hello, I have been taking toprol xl 25 for about 3 months for palpitations and high blood pressure. Recently I had a visit with an awesome electrophysiologist who is 95% convinved that I have SVT due to my symptomology and triggers. He was happy to do an EP study ASAP but I am not entirely convinced and so I asked to do a holter monitor in 2 weeks and he obliged. Problem is he wants me to completely stop my beta blocker Toprol XL 25 before I strap on the holter monitor. I am terrified!
376186 tn?1219283105 I am back on Toprol XL, 50 mg for PVC's and have been doing a 'no no'.....online reading about possible side effects of this drug and most of what I came away with is that this drug has lots of bad side effects for most people. There is a website where people can post their experiences with medications and 90% of the people who posted had terrible side effects w/this Beta Blocker. I hate taking meds to begin with and now I am not so sure that I should stay on this.
Avatar m tn I visited a gastroenterologist who did an upper endoscopy and only found evidence of GERD. My PCP put me on toprol-xl 25mg once daily in addition to my 40mg of lisinopril for HTN. I still fear that something is wrong with my heart that no one has found yet and the chest pain, headaches, shortness of breath, and dizziness continue (it's been about a month now). From what I understand, though, this could all be caused by anxiety.
Avatar n tn He said a tilt table test would diagnose it but there was really no point as they already had me on a beta blocker (Toprol XL) which is the treatment for POTS. I also have these episodes where my heart feels out of rhythm. It is definitely not skipping but beating rapidly and just oddly. It has a very rapid onset and offset (maybe 10 seconds from start to finish). These episodes have occured maybe 4-5 times this year. During the episodes, I feel weak, breathless and like I might faint.
Avatar n tn No, I think you'll be fine if you accidentally take a double dose, or for that matter skip a dose. Toprol XL is the timed released version of Metoprolol. I use to take Toprol XL, until I discovered the far cheaper Metoprolo. The primary difference is that I must take it twice a day instead of only once. I've taken a double dose on many occasions to aid conversion of SVT episodes.
Avatar n tn 36yo white female, history of Sinus Tachycardia, Questionable SVT but most likely high rate Sinus Tachycardia, Been on toprol xl 100mg 2x daily, Also have bigeminal PVCs often sustained also placed on Cardizem LA 180mg. Several stress echos and was told everything was fine just some minor regergitation. Not real comfortable with Cardiologist so opted to seek evaluation of a 2nd cardiologist today.
Avatar n tn I have taken Toprol XL for 3 years now, started out taking 50 mg per day, now down to 25 mg per day, doing pretty good. I take it for High BP & when I was taken off last year my heart rate would get really high & I have been to the ER several times. I am in the early stages of pregnancy about 6 weeks, has anyone every taken Toprol XL during an entire pregnancy. Any advice would be great...
Avatar f tn HI I just read your post. I was taking Toprol xl for over a year for sinus tach. My pharmacy switched me to the generic brand. 2 weeks later I started getting skipped beats (PVC I presume). I had never had them before. Went to the cardio and he didn't think it could be the generic brand, but switched me back to Toprol. It has been almost a month and I am still getting pvc's. I do believe it was the generic. If we don't complain, then no one will know.
Avatar f tn I take 12.5 mg of Toprol XL per day (any more and my BP drops very low). When I'm on Toprol, I don't have the waking in the night spells but when I'm off it I do (I've tried to get off once last summer and had to start taking it again). When I had the urine test back in October 2004, I had just started Toprol XL and was taking 12.5 mg per day for about a week before the test.
687614 tn?1244201579 00 am and the same 50 mg at bed time 9:00 pm. A riddle in of itself!!! I have approached my doctor's about this. One says that it is okay to still take my Toprol XL 50 mg. even though my BP is 99/56 and my pulse is 58. Another says that if I don't I will have breakthrough SVT's that are even tough for ER to get down sometimes (though it is not deadly so they say!). Who's right and who's wrong!!!
Avatar n tn i started taking toprol xl for chronich pac/pvc a couple monthes ago and everything was fine. but now i starting to get them again, also alot of hard beats and i'm tired all the time and have to fall asleep for acouple hours during the day, has anyone else gotten this on toprol?
Avatar f tn I have taken Toprol XL or some beta blocker since the 1980s. I was originally (at that time) diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse and sinus tachycardia. I recently wore a 14 day monitor and today my cardiologist said I have STV. I assume he can tell the difference between STV and sinus tachycardia but to me they feel the same. I already take 50mg Toprol XL twice a day. He wants me to take a half pill extra when I take my regular pill.
Avatar n tn I know it takes 7 to 10 days for the Cardizem to reach full affect, but I am wondering if the problem is the Toprol is still in my system. I took the Toprol for six months. How long does it take for the Toprol to totally leave my system? I have looked everywhere and can't find out anything.
Avatar n tn Karen, somethat I wanted to mention to you with regards to your Toprol dosage. I'm almost positive that Toprol XL dosage is the same as Metoprolol. Toprol XL is merely a time release version. (BTW, you could save a lot of p;rescription cost by taking Metoprolol) If your dosage is 25mg per day, this is a teeny weeny dose, the smallest available. By contrast, 400mg. has been administered to other patients. I was on 200mg. at one point, and at 200 pounds, I was a zombie at that level.
Avatar n tn Had an ablation 2 years ago for SVT. Now have SVT, atrial-fib, PVC's. I was on Atenolol for quite some time but it did not releive my PVC's or SVT to any great degree. I am now on propranolol (Inderal) 10mg three times a day. It has done wonders for my PVC's. Makes me very tired though. Meds work different for everyone, but just thought I would mention it, because your case sounds so much like mine.
214864 tn?1229718839 I tryed generic toprol xl and had very bad side effects and problems from it.. forced me to buy the non generic toprol xl for $$$ out of pocket !! due to Medco plan for meds. I think the FDA should check all the b.p meds Generic and Non Generic for problems as well. and really check the big pharm companys outside the U.S.A . that send us some of these drugs ! I would be 9 out of 10 companys wouldnt meet the u.s. standerts !
Avatar f tn Hi, Everyone. My EP switched me from Sotalol (160 mg daily) to Toprol XL (25 mg daily). His instructions were to stop taking Sotalol (no weaning) and start taking Toprol. It was a HUGE leap of faith for me as I have tried to not obsess about this. Today was my first day. I'm doing fine, but want to know if anyone else has made the same switch and faired well. Thanks!
Avatar n tn Folks: Here's the deal. I was put on 50mg of toprol xl last week for pvc's pac's and svt and let's just say it has not been a picnic. I'm exhausted and feel out of it. But here's my question. I read that long term beta blocker usage significantly raises your risk of getting type 2 diabetes. What's worse is I have a strong family history of diabetes including my two uncles and my grandfather who died from it. I'm only 40 and wondering if I should switch to a calcium channel blocker.
Avatar f tn Dear Di: I have taken toprol xl for about 12 years and have not had a problem with it.. The XL stands for extended life.. it is not all released at once in your system..So I would say the reason you cant take it just when you have a problem is that your body does not get the full effect immediately.. You have to take it and build it up as I understand it.. dunno not a dr...but thats the way Ive always understood it.. basically its a very safe medication to take... hope this helps.. .
Avatar m tn Increased Toprol XL from 50 to 100.
Avatar f tn My Dr is switching me from toprol XL to Cardizem, which is great because i have hair loss, weight gain, my joints hurt all the time like i have rhumetoid arthritis. i evem went to the specialist. she was not helpful. had know idea why i was hurting. my question is why is he taking me off toprol without a withdrawl period. i start cardizem tonight. I'm a little affraid something bad will happen after reading not to stop it suddenly. Has anyone else done this?
Avatar n tn I had a catheter ablation for SVT and have been taking toporol xl since. My new doc switched me to metoporol and i am nervous about taking it. What are the differences. I had panic attacks before the ablation, they have since been far and few between. Will i have more attacks or break through palpatations?
Avatar n tn Now I have to take medications for that, as well as taking the Prozac, even though the Toprol I take for SVT may indirectly worsen the side-effects of depression. I feel almost manic. Disconnected to others, incredibly lonely, dizzy, exhausted--I feel like I'm losing my grip on reality. All this since I started the Prozac. The depression was mild when I started the medication. NOw it has progressed to a level where I lie in bed most of the day, barely able to move.
385959 tn?1200162900 Diana, I don't have much to say re. your question but I will comment on my experiences w/Toprol XL. I was only taking 25mg for PVC's and did not notice any reduction of those at all while I was on it. Maybe I should have increased the dose but I hated the way I felt...not depression per se but just an over all yucky feeling. I did not seem to have much get up and go and as a result of that 'gained some weight. At times, I would have what I call 'brain fogs' too.
Avatar n tn Has this happened before? Now, you have fainted once, but how often are you dizzy with it? 25mg of Toprol xl is not very much so you have a lot of room to move within the limitations of med treatment only. You need to see your md and likely get a holter or an event monitor or both. If you have paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, and it happens often, you may need to be anticoagulated (on blood thinners) to prevent strokes.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with SVT 3yrs ago, and decided against the ablation, took Toprol xl for a time but currently take no meds for it. It is much better than when I was first diagnosed though I still have attacks. I am taking fertility treatments and told the re about the svt. He agreed to treat me, but I am wondering if any of you with svt had any trouble with your attacks becoming more frequent or severe during pregnancy? I am concerned that if I become pregnant it will suddenly worsen.
