Toprol xl cost

Common Questions and Answers about Toprol xl cost

Avatar m tn Hello, I have been taking toprol xl 25 for about 3 months for palpitations and high blood pressure. Recently I had a visit with an awesome electrophysiologist who is 95% convinved that I have SVT due to my symptomology and triggers. He was happy to do an EP study ASAP but I am not entirely convinced and so I asked to do a holter monitor in 2 weeks and he obliged. Problem is he wants me to completely stop my beta blocker Toprol XL 25 before I strap on the holter monitor. I am terrified!
Avatar n tn My pharmacist did the same thing without asking my doc first. I did have issues because the Toprol XL is an extended release of the drug metoprolol, which means there is a very steady release of the drug over a period of time so you only have to take it once per day, but the metoprol is more of an immediate effect that does not last as long in your system. They did not increase my dose to twice a day so I was only taking it once a day because I was not told of the difference.
Avatar n tn I understand Metoprolol SR and Toprol XL are equivalent, the Metoprolol being the generic, and much lower in cost. I've taken both, albeit it has been at least 6 years since I last used the brand-name Toprol XL. I guess I'm 'lucky" as far as HR goes. If I take 100 mg twice a day of Metoprolol my rest HR goes into the 70s at rest. I have been trying lower dose to see if that reduces the dream problem I have.
Avatar f tn ...if I had to pay for the entire cost of the extended release version of Metoprolol, Toprol XL, it would cost as much as $136.00 for a bottle of 100 from an online source in the US. Crazy, huh....?
Avatar f tn My doctor is now recommending an EP specialist based off of the results. I currently take 50mg of Toprol XL at night, which doesn't appear to slow things down. The main issue I am having is persistent sweating/exhaustion with minimal exercise or activity. My echocardiogram is fine and nothing else has surfaced. My heart rate during the day ranges from 100-140 bpm. I am very concerned about the cold sweat issue with minimal exertion.
Avatar n tn I contacted my cardiologist because I had a couple episodes where it felt like my heart was fluttering. I have been on Toprol XL for a little over a year (25mg) due to having a afib attack last memorial day and having to be converted. I have been fine until lately when last Monday my BP shot up to 170/90. She had me do a holter study for 2 days to see what was happening. She told me that my heart rate was running too high and that I had a 30 second episode of atrial flutter.
Avatar n tn I have used both before(two years ago) to diagnose an irregular heartbeat due to MVP, which showed SVT, many PAC's and PVC's, taking Toprol XL daily since then. The feelings that have me concerned usually begin with mild chest pressure or pain in my back, then lightheadedness, a brief pain in my left arm and sometimes ends with irregular beats. These episodes happen at work or at rest and always cause me to slow down what I am doing, but in general only last less than 3 minutes.
Avatar f tn I just realized last night that the prescription I received as of April 1st was NOT generic Toprol XL (long acting beta blocker) but generic Lopressor (short acting beta blocker). It was switched by my general practitioner bc of a pill shortage, WITHOUT my knowledge. Neither the doctor nor pharmacist told me of any switch. So possibly this has to do with the breakthrough episodes. Instead of lasting 24 hrs, the generic Lopressor only last 10-12. Completely unbelievable!
Avatar n tn Karen, somethat I wanted to mention to you with regards to your Toprol dosage. I'm almost positive that Toprol XL dosage is the same as Metoprolol. Toprol XL is merely a time release version. (BTW, you could save a lot of p;rescription cost by taking Metoprolol) If your dosage is 25mg per day, this is a teeny weeny dose, the smallest available. By contrast, 400mg. has been administered to other patients. I was on 200mg. at one point, and at 200 pounds, I was a zombie at that level.
612551 tn?1450025775 My cardiologist told me that patent for Toprol XL (Metoprolol Succinate) is about to expire, or has already do so, and the price will drop dramatically. He also mentioned that the patent on Lipitor is about the expire, and pharmicutical companies are licking their chops for that one. I'm on Simvastatin, and he plans to switch me as soon as the price drops on Lipitor (Atorvastatin Calcium). as he claims it's a much better drug. So, no, you're not alone.
Avatar n tn However if you doctor says to take the toprol xl, Due so. It is only costing me $18.00 a month with out insurance. Toprol is a time release, so it last 24 hours. Give it a week or two and see how you feel. There is other beta blockers out there that only cost $5.00 a month. I am on my third one cause of my asthma and my tachycarda was breaking though. Letting your heart beat to fast in time can wear it out. Of course it takes years and years and years.
Avatar n tn The diagnosis that I have been given is unspecified tachycardia, and right ventricular arrhythemia. I am currently taking verapamil 40mg tid and toprol xl 100-200mg daily.
Avatar n tn My first one lasted about 4 months while taking Toprol XL. The second was backed up with a stronger drug, Propafenone and lasted about 18 months, the same for the third. Following that loss of sinus rhythm my cardiologist said my leaky valve (mitral valve, a known condition) had caused my artium to stretch beyond a safe range, at 5.11 cm diameter, and said no more ecv, in fact he recommended surgery to repair the mitral valve, that was done last November.
Avatar n tn I doubled my dose of Toprol XL, at the recommendation of my cardiologist. I don't know if it's possible to have stable blood pressure with intermittent electric shocks that come without warning. Is it possible to lower the nerve's "electric charge" somehow? I have heard that imagery works. Any opinion on that technique? (The idea is that with repeated pain the brain "learns" to be in pain and so to speak wears a rut that it likes to return to.
685562 tn?1447158831 I had issues and became quite ill when I switched from Toprol XL to a generic. All issues resolved after discontinuing the generic. FDA did find some substandard practices with the company manufacturing the generic. This is what I found after some research: FDA regulations require generics to have the same active ingredients, be bioequivalent, and have a high purity. Inactive ingredients do not have to be the same and the generic can never look like the brand name.
376186 tn?1219283105 I take 50 mg of Toprol XL but it doesn't seem to suppress the palps at all. Have the usual cardio workups/physicals yearly. I have been to the ER for 'runs' that lasted 12 hours or more, a few times. Each time, I was given an IV and so the heart started beating normally. Recently, I am having more and more 'episodes' of 'clusters' and my EP says that they are benign but they cause a lot of worry and anxiety, esp when they last for hours on end.
Avatar f tn so dont know the side effects yeah thats a high co pay alrighty ! 50.00 - I just got off Toprol xl beta blocker non generic it cost me 165.00 per 30day dose ! they get us good on the meds ! when you had the dizzyness were on any type of medication at all ? or without meds .. some of the medications can cause lightheadedness - and I have blacked out a few times for seconds on toprol xl . its no fun !! however if you were not , your b.
Avatar n tn Just wanted to say that i was plagued with these also. I was on Toprol XL for over a yr with no relief. I had borderline hypertension 145/90's and now it is 115's/75. Not sure if there is a connection but in my case they have been almost nonexistant for almost a half yr. PVC's in my opinion im not a dr. occur for many different reasons some of which are unknown. I have to believe the drs when they say with a normal workup they are harmless(which i know is very hard to do from my own experience.
Avatar n tn 2) , mitral valve prolapse Is it possible that an ECHO can change in less than 2 months? She put me on 25 mg Toprol XL. That was almost a month ago. I feel no different and recently have begun to feel worse. I feel like someone is sitting on my chest and it is extremely difficult to breath. There are waves of weakness on my left side that make my arm feel really heavy. I don't know what else I should do to be proactive in figuring this out? Any thoughts or suggestions would be great.
Avatar f tn I finanally saw a cardiologist, and althought he seemed unconcerned about them, I really have a difficult time getting thru the day feeling happy and quality of life in tact. He wants to change my meds. starting with Toprol XL and if this does not work, Carvedilol 6.25 . Has anyone been on either of these meds and what do you think? I do not have high blood pressure, just pvc'c which I had under control with the Propanolol (Inderal) for several years. don't know if the stress kicked them up?
Avatar n tn The thing I'm concerned about with switching medicines is that I had a big problem with Toprol XL which I was put on first. It made me very depressed and weepy in a matter of 5 days. The atenolol did not have that effect. Apparently some of the beta blockers cause depression because they cross the blood brain barrier. I haven't found much on the internet about that however. Did you have any problem with the acebutolol? How long have you been on it? Your decrease is very impressive!
Avatar n tn My cardiologist restricted me from strenuous activity and put me on Toprol-XL and Lisinopril and is going to have the echo redone in 3 monthes, and I am going back to see him in one month. He said I had some atrial fib during the echo and my heart rate fluctuated between 70-155 bpm. (I could feel palpitations during the echo). I have no symptoms during exersize and my palpitations only bother me at rest. My questions are: 1.
Avatar n tn So now I take 50 mg. of Toprol XL once a day. I'm not really under control but I can go to work everyday and if I really pace myself and don't do anything too strenuous I'm willing to live with it for now. If it progresses to the point were I was before the first ablation (240 beats per minute) then I will have another ablation done. Hope this helps someone out there.
Avatar n tn of 03 and then they changed me to Toprol XL. Don't feel alone...please..because I am 32 and have been battling this beast since I was 18! It consumes your life and it is very hard to get a grip on. I had a bad episode earlier and know that is all I can think about and I am on the verge of a panic/anxiety attack. I have a 3 year old to worry about and it's hard...I know...My biggest thing is just trying to find the triggers...I know sometimes it is stress..
Avatar n tn 1)What can I do to become less aware of the heartbeat? Right now I am on Toprol XL, 50mg per day in divided doses. 2. Would it be a good plan to try a different beta blocker or do you feel I am getting the best out of the Toprol given my symptoms above? 3. Could I be adding to the problem because of adrenaline? When these eipisodes occure I do deep breathing which helps sometimes to shorten the episodes.
Avatar f tn I am a 33 year old woman, in very good health. I exercise and eat well and am of normal weight. I take 12.5 mg of Toprol XL per day for heart palpitations. I have mild MVP with trace tricuspid and mitral valve regurge. I've heard that palpitations don't need treatment unless you have a structurally abnormal heart. I'm wondering if my heart is structurally abnormal because of the MVP and regurge. Also, do beta blockers really cause weight gain?
2084975 tn?1332551556 There are two type of Metoprolol, Tartrate and Succinate. The latter is marketed as Toprol XL which is a time released version. It is more expensive than Metoprolol Tartrate (which is dirt cheap in the US) but it may provide you with a longer effectivity. I take the Tartrate version twice a day and have done so for years. Left side ablation is a little more involved than right side, but unfortunately that's where the "action" is often found.
Avatar n tn After this incident, I went to my personal physician and he gave me TOPROL XL 25 MG time-realesed capsuls (once a day) and Xanax 0.5 mg (2 times a day if needed) for anxiety. The funny thing about these pills is that after 1 weeks use it seems that my body is becoming more and more immune to their effects especially the TOPROL XL and instead of taking 1 every 24 hours I now take 1 every 18 hours and day, and day by day the hours lessen.
Avatar f tn I have pacs pvcs, svt, aivr and nsvt. Longest nsvt was 26 beats with 187bpm when I was on low dose of toprol xl for three days. I just recently went and saw my cardio/ep and she said that the only two options I have is to do nothing or try flecinide. Well flecinide scares me to death. I would have to be hospital for the first three days. She did a echo and everything is fine with trace mvp. My ef is 74%. She believes flecinide is my answer.
