There are many success stories of people losing weight on topamax. If you read the side effects, weight loss is one of them. It helps suppress the desire to eat even smoking which I have quit too. I have had all blood tests ran on me. I've been going to my doctor for 10 years. I like how you just jump to conclusions without doing any research. For anyone else who has any experience using this please write.
So i posted this comment to try and get some answers from members who may have not experienced hair loss so it will encourage her to go back on Topamax as the pain has become worse also her Fatigue.
I recommend you find a post on this site or the internet related to Topamax and Fibromyalgia and print it off and take to your Rheumatologist as there are 1000's of patient prescribed with Topamax in which to treat Fibromyalgia.
I still get the occassional headache/migraine due to the extreme weather/pressure change but I can manage. Weight loss is a big thing I am battling with though. I HAVE lost 30+ pounds because of Topamax. Very irritating when you are trying to fit into a wedding dress. I probably need to increase my dosage for the migraines but I am afraid because I do not need to lose anymore weight. I am still averaging at least 1-2lbs a week. old female also with a LONG migraine history and I have fibromyalgia. I had to go off the Topamax (the weight loss was great, but the side effects turned me into a depressed zombie). Now I'm on Lyrica, it's not yet approved for migraines but the testing is very promising, and I have had very few headaches in the last 2 months since I switched and those have been mild. I hope and think that probably your symptoms are related to the Topamax also.
I am also hypothyroid and take 200mcg of synthroid, will there be issues taking these two meds together? I read that one of the side effects of topamax is weight loss. This I wouldnt mind as Ive put on weight due to my hypothyroid. But, the biggest thing would not have these headaches. I have almost come to the point where I just have to accept them as part of my life. I really would like this med to work. Info/suggestions/ideas from anyone would be greatly appreciated..
Does any one taking topamax for migraines have the problem of memory loss? Especially word loss when speaking or writing? I know this drug is nicknamed stupamax for a reason. It sure helps to know when you are not alone and others have the same side effects. Topamax helps my migraines and the weight loss is a plus too but the memory is suffering when it comes to writing and speech...like spelling...
In Nov my TSH level was .44 but due to weight loss she dropped my dosage from 125mcg to 100mcg, retested in 6 weeks, my TSH level was 5.90, so she upped my dosage to 112mcg, but after two weeks on it i requested my dosage be put back to 125mcg and to keep my TSH level at 1.0 or lower. To my astonishment she agreed. I will get retested again in 4 weeks. (I had a TT 14 yrs ago). I get tested everytime I tell them my symptoms.
I have been on Geodon since January 2, 2005 and have had a HORRIFIC experience! I gained 40 pounds in six months, need to wear glasses because of my blurry vision, foggy thoughts, bad short-term memory, extreme dry mouth, body spasms, facial tics, grinding teeth, palpitations, slurred speech, and extreme nausea. I have been to many doctors over the years and they all say that these side effects had nothing to do with my medication.
I am currently on Depakote and just last week put on Topamax for a 59pd weight gain in eight months. I am miserable and looking for any encouragement I can get. I can't find anything that says I will or won't loss weight by adding this Topamax even thought my doctor said it should curve my appetite I'm willing to try anything. I don't have any midnight binges and use portion control when I eat breakfast and dinner. I don't snack but I'm not real good at exercising.
I know that weight loss is associated with both of those, especially the Topamax. I was ok with that, I've been wanting to lose about 30 lbs. anyway. But I'm on low doses of both, so I didn't expect to see much weight loss, if any, and especially not so quickly. My appointment at the psychiatrist was on October 7 and when they had me get on the scale there, it read 131 lbs.

Loss of appetite is one of the many side effects of Topamax. So is weight loss. You may try giving the child some digestive enzymes and multivitamin preparations that help in improving the appetite.
